The monarchy of Roschfallen is at the core of both Roschfallen's unitary structure and of semi-parliamentary and constitutional autocracy. It is the Absolute monarchy under a semi-parliamentary system, where the monarch is both Head of State and Head of Government. The sovereign is the personification of the Roschfallenian state and is Lord of Roschfallen as a matter of constitutional law. The current Roschfallenian monarch is King Arthur I of Roschfallen, who has reigned since 28 January 2014. Arthur's eldest sister, Princess Élida, is the heir apparent.
The monarch and his or her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties. As the monarchy is semi-constitutional, the monarch retains executive political functions such appointing the Captain Regent, sanctioning or vetoing over laws, dismissing the parliament, naming legislative representants and bestowing honours. The monarch is commander-in-chief of the Roschfallenian Armed Forces. The ultimate formal executive authority over the government of the Roschfallen is still by and through the monarch's royal prerogative.
History
On 28 Januray 2014, the now Arthur, Lord of Roschfallen established the Throne of Roschfallen, declaring the private property of his family in the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Magé and Saquarema as a Principality independent from the Federative Republic of Brazil. An elective absolute Monarchy in the beginning, the country became a hereditary semi-parliamentary monarchy headed by the House of Bruyn with the Roschfallenian constitution of 2015. Following a coup d'état led by its own monarch, the country became an absolute monarchy again.
On 29 December 2019, King Arthur I abdicated the throne for him and his relatives. He was succeeded by the former High Inquisitor Fernando Degani, who took the throne as King Fernando I.
Constitutional role
The Lord is both head of state and head of government of the nation and his position is hereditary. He appoints the Captain Regent, who in turn appoints the Ministers of State, who assist in government. Legislative power is exercised through the Council of Fools, the national Unicameral legislature. Judiciary authorities exercise jurisdictional duties almost exclusively through the Inquisitional Court.
