Monmark, officially the Commonwealth of All Monmarkia, was a sovereign state active from the 26th of December 2017, through the 15th of July 2023. It was never recognized by any UN members commonly called a "micronation" by outside observers, enclaved within the State of Texas within the United States. Established as the Kingdom of Monmark on the 26 December 2017. Monmark was a Confederal Constitutional Monarchy de jure, but a Confederal Absolute Monarchy de facto, consisting of 11 Constituent Countries with each having their own regional monarchy. Monmark was the Hegemon of the Monmarkian Commonwealth, an organization of states under Monmarkian protection/alliance, as well as its constituent countries, crownlands, dominions, and associated states.

Monmark's government system followed the ideals of "Crimsonism" which is the ideology made by Alexander I Constantine, Crimsonism is characterized by absolute monarchism, social democratic economic policies, environmentalism, and moderately progressive social policies.

With 54 citizens as of 9 January 2021, Monmark had grown rapidly since September 2020 when there had been a total of 12 citizens, this reflects Monmark's diplomatic outreach since then. Of the current 54 citizens, 11 are confirmed residents of Monmark, other citizens are honorary citizens or full citizens who live outside Monmarkian borders.

Monmark was a member state of the Cupertino Alliance when it joined on 7 November 2020 and when it was admitted as an Observer State, and it became a full member on 25 November 2020, however as of 2022, Monmark has left the Cupertino Alliance due to disagreements between the 2. Besides Cupertino, Monmark also was a part of the League of Independent Nations from 31 May until 1 November 2020, when Monmark left the alliance.

Etymology and demonyms

“Monmark” had no real meaning and etymology, however the demonyms are as follows. Monmarkian was used as the adjectival form of Monmark, as well as to describe a citizen of Monmark. Monmarkians is the plural form, used to describe groups of Monmarkian citizens.

History

Early History

Monmark was established on 26 December 2017 as the Kingdom of Monmark with the two founders debating who should be the first King, David Augustus won out. The first months of existence were spent making a few laws here and there but no attempt at a constitution was ever made. In September 2018, a brief civil war was fought between the King and Prime Minister after the Prime Minister declared war on the nation of Rockfoxia, after a few days fighting, both sides reunited.

Early Empire

From then on until the November of 2019 Monmark was in a state of dormancy, in November the King began a series of reforms declaring himself Emperor, and soon Grand Emperor, in that time the title of Prime Minister was changed to Grand Chancellor. Over the succeeding months, Monmark was reformed more and more. On the 29th of May 2020, the constitution was ratified by the Grand Emperor. On May 31, 2020, Monmark entered into diplomatic relations for the first time joining the League of Independent Nations and establishing an embassy within the Nexan Republic. On 20 June 2020, Monmark annexed its nearby puppet states set up by the monarch for that purpose, becoming the first constituent countries alongside the Kingdom of Monmark which succeeded Bluff Province.

Monmarkian Golden Age

During what the Government has called the "Almendria Conflict" Monmark never fought in the war, but did side diplomatically against Almendria, condemning the Alendrian Government after their cancelled elections and blocking of Ozikstani independence, earning an embassy within Ozikstan. On 14 August 2020, a new Constituent Country was added to the Empire by a vote of Parliament named the Kingdom of Paland, with the citizen who obtained the land being crowned as its first King. The next day the Grand Emperor changed his title to Emperor in an attempt to be more modest. On 30 September 2020, the Convention of the Americas was signed with the Arthurian Empire, the Nexan Republic and the Confederal Republic of Sunseva. In this treaty, HI&RM David Augustus I, was recognized as "King of the Texans". On 5 October 2020, the Green Free State which was a micronation to the northeast of Monmark ruled by David Augustus, petitioned for annexation into Monmark, which was accepted, the Green Free State was then divided into the Kingdom of the Highlands, Grand Duchy of Neu-Begonie, and the Grand Duchy of the Lowlands. On 25 October 2020, the Emperor declared a golden age for Monmark following exponential growth since late September. On 30 November 2020, recognizing a common mistake of foreigners thinking Monmark was a kingdom, the nation was renamed to the Monmarkian Empire.

2021

On 1 January 2021, Monmark united with the Arthurian Empire, creating the Monmarkian-Arthurian Empire, a new dual monarchy, with two co-emperors, a Chancellor, and a Prime Minister for each state. Around this time, Monmark left the Curaptino Alliance and reformed into the Monmarkian Commonwealth under a King.

Flags

The Royal Standard and Imperial Standard were used interchangeably, although it was a common courtesy to use the Imperial Standard as the official flag of Monmark, and to fly in most situations while the Royal Standard is used mostly in situations involving the Royal Family. Constituent Countries may have had their own flags and royal standards but they flew below the Imperial Standard. The colonial ensign flew over all dominions, as well as associated states with no flag.

Government

The governance of Monmark was conducted via a semi-constitutional monarchy with the King as head of state, while the Prime Minister was the head of government. The legislature of Monmark is the Rekstide, a tricameral entity composed of the Grand Royal Council as the upper chamber, and the Royal Senate, and the House of Nobles as the lower chambers. The Grand Royal Council was made up of Councillors(previously Chancellors) appointed by the King from among the nobility, with the Prime Minister being a part of this council as its head while also being appointed by the King, Councillors had a two-year terms with a limit of nine. The Royal Senate was made up of elected Senators serving one-year terms with a limit of ten, Senators were elected via Party List Instant Run-off voting, with the number of Senators decided by the number of Constituent Countries. The House of Nobles had the same power and number of Representatives as the Senate but was unelected and rather appointed by the Federal Monarchs of each Constituent Country, with one Representative per Constituent Country. Parliament was suspended on 1 November and was announced to not be reinstated until the populace demands it, this solidified a change to absolute monarchy. Following Parliament's suspension, the functions of the legislature have been taken over by the Privy Council with the purpose of advising the monarch.

There were three parties in Parliament. The SRP (social royalist party) was a center left party that controlled three seats in the Grand Imperial Council, and the Grand Chancellor. The Zachary Party (whose leader has not revealed their party’s platform) controlled a single seat in the Grand Imperial Council. The Prime Party was a far left libertarian party that had one seat in the Grand Imperial Council. There was one independent in the council.

Administration

Monmark was a federal commonwealth where the administration was composed of Incorporated Territories and Unincorporated Territories. Constituent Countries had the right to their own laws and constitution as well as their own foreign policy, these were entirely up to the Federal Monarch of that territory. Constituent Countries were further divided into Crownlands and Municipalities. Dominions served no purpose other than assigning uninhabited land to divisions. Associated states were states established by Monmarkian citizens or the monarch, as independent monarchies, however subject to the imperial crown of Monmark, with defense and foreign policy falling to the imperial government.

Armed forces

The Monmarkian Armed Forces were divided into four branches, the Imperial Defense Corps (IDC), the Imperial Guard (IGD), the Royal Monmarkian Navy (RMN), and the Royal Cyber Defense Corps (RCDC). Monmark was constitutionally neutral from conflicts not involving allies yet retains a strong military to discourage conflict. All adults were required to serve for two years, but this goes unenforced as the nation was not focusing on military development.

IDC

The IDC was structured into Divisions, Battalions, and Platoons, with the Highest Ranks being Supreme Commander held by the Emperor, and Marshal of Monmark held by any distinguished General. The IDC was the main force in the Monmarkian military, with the role of protecting the sovereignty of Monmark.

RCDC

The RCDC was the cyber defense force of Monmark with the roles of protecting Monmark's Cyberspace and waging war virtually in the event of war. The highest rank was Supreme Commander, held by the Emperor.

IGD

The IGD was the elite forces of Monmark, tasked with the protection of the Royal Family, the Grand Chancellor, and the Parliament in peace, and Special Operations in war. The Government never declassifed most of the structure of the IGD.

RMN

The RMN was the naval arm of the IDC, charged with protecting any coastline from threats. The highest ranks were Supreme Commander held by the Emperor, and Grand Admiral, held by HM Vincent II of Paland.
