The Most Serene Republic of Larberiza, officially Larberiza, is a micronation founded on 15 May 2014 by Eugenio Larberizu, with its headquarters in the City of Larberiza, the private residence of the founder, and with a system of government of a parliamentary republic.

Etymology

The name of the micronation is a derivative of Larberizu, the surname of the Father of the Country, Eugenio Larberizu.

History

Officially, the press releases about independence were set on 13 May 2014, but the first activity of the micronation was on 15 May 2014.

Eugenio Larberizu created the micronation when he read the Declaration of Montevideo. In its early years, Larberiza was a monarchy but quickly changed to Republic because the political leaders realised that this would attract more people. Eugenio Larberizu won all elections held from 2014-2016. In January 2016 new elections were called and Eugenio Larberizu announced he will not seek re-election because he had run out of ideas to improve the country.

On 1 February 2016 the Popular Party has won the elections and with its majority in the Chamber of Deputies appointed Juan Bermejo as the new President of Larberiza. On 4 February 2016, The Most Serene Republic of Larberiza and the Republic of Iberis signed an agreement of mutual recognition, for which they hope to study in-depth the good use of diplomatic relations and of friendship to improve the cause of the micronations. On 5 February 2016 Larberiza signed a treaty of Mutual Recognition with the Republic of Estuardo.

On 22 April 2018, Juan Bermejo announced an election for 1 May. Miguel Larberizu, son of the country’s founder, ran for the Democratic Socialist Party. Miguel Larberizu won the election of 1 May 2016, having been endorsed by the Social Democratic Party. After the disbandment of the National Government on 27 January 2019, elections were called for 2 February.

In the elections of 2 February 2019, the Liberal Party won 9 seats and the Popular Party 1 seat. Parliament elected Gabrijel Vranic as the President of Larberiza. Changes were made to press activity during Vranic's government, but new hires did not update the media, and the government crisis led to an electoral breakthrough with the dissolution of the government, calling for elections on 17 August 2019. Juan Bermejo won the election with 5 votes, while Gabrijel Vranic got 1 vote.

In the elections of 1 December 2019, Klemens Ludwig Knepp was elected president, receiving 5 votes. Juan Bermejo received 1 vote. President Knepp would later lead a series of reforms to improve Larberiza's activity, which included the creation of an Official Registry where the government's action is published every Wednesday, and also the creation of several companies to create logos and posters. On 8 January 2020, the official website of Larberiza was changed for the first time since the foundation.

In the elections to the Chamber of Deputies on 16 January 2020, Eugenio Larberizu won with 5 votes.

On 5 February 2020 a Treaty of Friendship, Collaboration and Mutual Recognition was signed with Molidia.

On 11 March 2020, President Klemens Ludwig Knepp resolved to suspend micronational activity due to the COVID-19 pandemic in order to avoid health risks to citizens. The suspension lasted until 1 April 2020.

On 13 May 2020 a Treaty of Friendship, Collaboration and Mutual Recognition was signed with Celtic Kingdom of Lugesia.

In the elections to the Chamber of Deputies on 16 July 2020, Eugenio Larberizu, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, won 3 votes and Juan Bermejo, the candidate of the Democratic coalition for Larberiza, won 2 votes. The Social Democrats won 6 seats and the Democrats 4 seats.

On 5 August 2020 a second amendment was made to the Constitution, amending Article 7 so that the Chamber of Deputies would elect the President of Larberiza. On 12 August 2020 the Larberiza Library was created as a public institution, responsible for archiving, safeguarding and disseminating the works of the people of Larberiza, through the means granted to it by the Larberiza Government. On 28 August 2020 a Treaty of Friendship, Collaboration and Mutual Recognition was signed with Saumida. On 11 November 2020, a Treaty of Friendship, Collaboration and Mutual Recognition was signed with the Federal Republic of Anvurna.

On 2 December 2020, Larberiza became one of the founding members of the Micronations Club.

Political system

There is a Chamber of Deputies elected by the citizens every 6 months by universal, free, equal suffrage, direct and secret by a proportional representation system structured around the d’Hondt law. In addition, there is a team of all citizens, that must ratify all initiatives that previously passed by the House. If the Senate rejects a proposal from the Senate Chamber, it will return to be modified as new Senate amendments and will vote in the Senate, a maximum of 3 occasions. In addition, the Senate may pass their own proposals without having to pass the texts by the House.

Political parties

There are three political parties in Larberiza; the Popular Party, the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party.

The Liberal Party was created by Gabrijel Vranic in January 2019.

The PPL is a political party created by Juan Bermejo in 2015. The PPL is identified with conservatism, with a strong defence of the Constitution and law enforcement.

The SDL is a left-wing political party, created in 2014 by Miguel Larberizu. It is a progressist party who support the open society, the equal rights from all people and the welfare estate. On 5 June 2020, Klemens Ludwig Knepp presented the new logo of the Social Democratic Party of Larberiza.
