The Most Noble and Most Auspicious Order of the Commonwealth is a former order of chivalry of Vishwamitra which was granted as the highest state order during its republican era. It was constituted on then President Varuna Sriraya on 4 August 2019 immediately after the proclamation of the "Commonwealth" in order to recognize the highest and most esteemed services rendered by the citizens and foreign allies. Until the establishment of the order, the Friends Society Ratna was the highest civilian award which became dormant after the establishment of the Order of the Commonwealth.

There has been no inductions to the Order of the Commonwealth following the nation's transition to a monarchy on 8 June 2020 and with the establishment of the Vishwamitran honours system on 3 July, it is believed to have been dissolved, however its status is unclear.

Grades

The Order of the Commonwealth was conferred in two distinct grades of Knight or Dame and Officer. The grade of Knight (reserved only for male recipients) and Dame (only for female recipients) was the highest of the two grades and was conferred on the senior-most state dignitaries including the President, Prime Minister, Vice-President and former leaders while it was granted on foreign heads of state and ally leaders in honorary capacity. The grade of Officer was granted on ministers, etc. All recipients of the order bore post-nominal letters. Knights and Dames were entitled to the post-nominal letters of KC, Honorary recipients used Hon. KC as the post-nominal letters, while Officers used the post-nominal letters of OC.

The President as the fount of honour was the Grand Master/Mistress of the Order of the Commonwealth and every deed granting and revoking the order needed their approval and decision.
