The Most Exalted Order of the Crown of Vishwamitra (Hindi: परम गौरवान्वित दर्ज़ह मुकुट विश्वामित्र, Param Gauravanita Darjah Mukut Vishwamitra) is the third highest order of chivalry of the State of Vishwamitra ranking immediately after the Royal Vishwamitran Order of Merit. It was created on 24 October 2022 by Rashtradhyaksh Dhrubajyoti Roy through his royal decree numbered 247-2022 under the various reforms initiated to the federal honours system.
The Order of the Crown of Vishwamitra is awarded to people for their contributions and personal dedication to the crown of Vishwamitra in various fields of human endeavour and for continuous and dedicated services to the Rashtradhyaksh and the monarchs from time to time. The order is also conferred as a personal decoration or token of appreciation of the monarch and may also be conferred on spouses of foreign reigning monarchs and heads of state, members of the foreign royal families, etc. who do not qualify for the membership of the Supreme Order of the Hibiscus.
History
The Order of the Crown of Vishwamitra, often deemed to be a replacement of its predecessor under the same name, the Royal Order of the Crown of Vishwamitra, was constituted as a federal chivalric order by Rashtradhyaksh Dhrubajyoti Roy on 24 October 2022 as a consequence to this decision to disestablish all existing federal orders and replacing them with appropriate ones. The order has chiefly replaced Royal Order of the Crown of Vishwamitra which was also awarded for personal services to the crown of Vishwamitra.
Grades
The Rashtradhyaksh being the fons honorum of all the federal orders and decorations is at the apex of the order as the sovereign. Following the Sovereign is the Chancellor of the order, a position held by a recipient of the order. The current Chancellor is Arthur Lacey-Scott.
The order has five grades:
- Grand Cordon or Darjah Sri Utama Mukut Vishwamitra - S.U.M.V.
- Grand Officer or Darjah Sri Prathama Mukut Vishwamitra - S.P.M.V.
- Commander or Darjah Utama Mukut Vishwamitra - D.U.M.V.
- Officer or Darjah Prathama Mukut Vishwamitra - D.P.M.V.
- Member or Darjah Sadasya Mukut Vishwamitra - D.S.M.V.
The recipients of the grade of Grand Cordon grade are eligible to receive an armorial achievement surrounded by the insignia of the order. The grade of Grand Cordon may be conferred upon those who have served, or are currently serving, as the prime minister, members of the privy council or as privy councilors unless they have been inducted to a senior order.
The recipients of the grade of Grand Cordon or Darjah Sri Utama Mukut Vishwamitra bear the pre-nominal honorific title of Tan Sri, while the recipients of the Grand Officer grade or Darjah Sri Prathama Mukut Vishwamitra bear the pre-nominal honorific title of Param Sri. The spouses of the recipients are not entitled to bear any title because of their spouse being a recipient.
Insignia
Upon admission into the Order of the Crown of Vishwamitra, the awardees are given various insignia.
- The badge of the order is different for the two grades:
- Grand Cordon: has an eight-pointed star in gold and on its surface is a blue floral disc topped by a white disc on which the letters "CROWN • VISHWAMITRA are engraved. Over the white disc is an maroon red disc with the crown of Vishwamitra engraved on it in gold.
- Grand Officer: has an eight-pointed star in silver and the same design as that of the badge of Grand Cordon in silver.
- The star is a smaller version of the Grand Cordon's badge with the eight-pointed rays in smaller size.
- The ribbon is light sky blue sash.
