The Most Honourable Order of the Lotus (Hindi: पद्म मानपदवी, IAST: Padma Manapadvi) was an order of chivalry of the State of Vishwamitra which was established by the first Rashtradhyaksh Tanishkaa Patranabish on 3 July 2020 through her royal decree no. 10-2020, along with the Royal Family Order of Vishwamitra and the Order of the Vishwamitra. It was disestablished on 25 October 2022 as a part of the reforms to the honours system.

Prior to its disestablishment, it was the second highest order in the honours system ranking immediately after the Royal Family Order of Vishwamitra and above the Order of the Sanghamitra. The order derived its name from the national flower, the Lotus flower. The last induction to the order took place on 29 September 2022 under the Autumn Honours 2022.

Origin

Established on 3 July 2020, it was the second honor created by the then Rashtradhyaksh Tanishkaa Patranabish. The order's goal is to honor and recognize a person for it's value or merit, and therefore it shall be granted at the pleasure of it's sovereign and grand master, the Rashtradhyaksh. The order was disestablished along with the other federal orders on 25 October 2022 by Rashtradhyaksh Varuna Sriraya to initiate reforms to the honours system.

Composition

The Rashtradhyaksh was the sovereign of the order and appointed all other members of the order on their own pleasure or at the advice of the Conference of Rulers and the government. The next most senior member was the Grand Master who was one of the state rulers chosen by the sovereign, while a non-citizen who was the head of state of a friendly foreign nation was appointed as the Honorary Chancellor of the order.

Grades

The Order of the Lotus was originally created with three ranks of Grand Collar, Grand Cross, and Commander. However, in 2022, the statutes were amended to rename the Grand Collar grade to that of Grand Cross with Collar and add two more grades of that of Officer and Member.

  • Grand Cross with Collar (reserved for the Rajpramukhs of the provinces, designated senior royalties and foreign heads of state)
  • Grand Cross (conferred on the senior officers of state, foreign heads of state, government and royalties)
  • Commander (conferred on politicians, diplomats, foreigners, etc.)
  • Officer (conferred on civilians and military officers)
  • Member (conferred on civilians and military officers)

The first two grades of the Order - Grand Cross with Collar (formerly Grand Collar) and Grand Cross were exclusively conferred on Vishwamitran royals and foreign Heads of State for their services towards the nation. The grade of Grand Cross with Collar was limited to the constituent monarchs of the Vishwamitran states, senior state royalties and foreign heads of state; while the grade of Grand Cross was conferred on foreign heads of state, government and foreign royalties and exclusively on the Prime Minister of Vishwamitra post retirement from their office.

Members of all rankings of this order were assigned positions in the order of precedence, ranking above all others members of equal rankings of whichever orders. Consorts, childs and childs-in-law also featured on the order of precedence; relatives of members, however, were not assigned any special precedence. Generally, individuals could derive precedence from their parents or consorts as long as the recipient lives.

All members of the order were entitled to the post-nominal letters, the ones of the order (GColL for Grand Cross with Collar; GCL for Grand Crosses; ComL for Commanders; OL for Officers; and ML for Members) took precedence. All recipients were provided with a certificate signed and stamped by the Sovereign and the Grand Master and a coat of arms encircled with the insignia of the Order. All the top three grades existed since the creation of the order in July 2020, while the lower grades of Officer and Member were added on 22 May 2022.

Officers

In addition to the Sovereign, the order had two more offices and formerly that of the Chancellor which was abolished on 11 October 2022.
