Ribbon of the Order of the Swiss Prince

The Order of the Swiss Prince (Portuguese: Ordem do Príncipe Suíço) is a sub-national order of knighthood of the Principality of New Switzerland within the Kingdom of Ebenthal. It was the highest Ebenthali award until the creation of the Order of the Silver Cat and it was demoted from national to sub-national order in 20 August 2021. Its current Grand Master is Antônio I, Prince of New Switzerland.

The order was established in late 2014 by High King Arthur I as the country's highest honor. Its name is a joke, kidding with the Brazilian President of the Chamber of Deputies Eduardo Cunha's jocose nickname of "Swiss Prince", and the order's motto comes from his famous phrase during the former President Dilma's impeachment "May God have mercy on this nation". Eventually the order's significance shifted to pay homage to Antônio I, Prince of New Switzerland, who played a major role on the micronation's development.

Origin

Established in 14 December 2014, it was the first honor of the Kingdom of Ebenthal, created by High King Arthur I through royal decree as the country's highest honor, and remained this way until Arthur II's ascencion to the throne in late 2019 and the creation of the Order of the Silver Cat. The order's former goal while the country's highest was to honor and recognized people who had done exceptionally meritorious achievents, but since the creation of the Order of the Silver Cat, the Order of the Swiss Prince lost that objective. Currenty the order is the highest that the sovereign can confer for no apparent reason but his own personal will. It is also the Ebenthali honor with the highest number of recipients.

The order's name has a dual origin; it is firstly a joke about Eduardo Cunha, former President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil who, after being sentenced to prison for corruption on accusations of having hidden money on Swiss bank accounts, was called the "Swiss Prince"; the second origin is that the name derives from one of Ebenthal's federative units, the Principality of New Switzerland, ruled by Prince Antônio I, regarded as national hero for his continuous loyalty and devoltion to the country, and therefore it would be a homage to him. As for the motto it comes as a joke as well, quoted as Eduardo Cunha, when voting for the impeachment of former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, said "May God have mercy on this nation, my vote is: yes!".

In 20 August 2021, following a decree issued three days earlier, the order went from national to sub-national and Antônio I, Prince of New Switzerland substituted King Arthur II as Grand Master of the order. The order was also transformed into a single-grade order.

Precedence and privileges

Members of all rankings of this order are assigned positions in the order of precedence, ranking above all others members of equal rankings of whichever orders except for the higher Order of the Silver Cat. Consorts, childs and childs-in-law also feature on the order of precedence; relatives of members, however, are not assigned any special precedence. Generally, individuals can derive precedence from their parents or consorts as long as the recipient lives.

All members ot the order are entitled to the prefixes of "Sir" and "Ma'am". When an individual is entitled to use multiple post-nominal letters, the ones of the order (GCPS for Grand Crosses; COPS for Commanders; OPS for Officials; CPS for knights; and DPS for dames) takes precedence. All recipients may encircle their arms with the circlet of the order.
