Oscar I of Bertia is a former King of Bertia and good friend of Max I. However, he led the First Civil War against him with Ryan House and Charlie Dormer. Ryan, who had forced Max to abdicate to him, abdicated in favour of Oscar a few hours after becoming King. Oscar decided that there was no use in him being King and abdicated to Max. He is known as Oscar ‘the Citizen King’ and Oscar ‘the Noble’. He abdicated his crown in favour of Harrison Bert after the 2022 Bertia constitutional referendum on 10 January 2022.
Since resigning to Max, he has sometimes helped the King in his service: This included co-leading the resistance against Charlie Dormer in the Second Hilltop Civil War, who had attempted to secede from the United Republic of Englica and declared himself to be 'Emperor of Hilltop’ with Tom Gilly as puppet King of Bertia on 13 February 2021.
He fought for the Children of the Dank in the Dank Wars against Martin Wareham’s splinter group Children of the Meme and was involved in the most violent battle in Hilltop history, the Battle of Middem where both him, Max I and Joseph Young were injured.
On 26 April 2021, Bertian nationalists proclaimed him as President of Bertia, declaring independence from Hilltop in the Bertian Civil War. Hilltopper attempts to suppress the rebels were unsuccessful until the Battle of Feld when Max I and Olly Gooding defeated Thow.
On 17 June 2021, he fought against Arthur II, leading to a Hilltopper victory in the Antenna War. Calls for Bertian independence were answered when it became a semi-independent state and part of the United Republic of Englica with Oscar as King.
He lost his throne in the 2022 Bertia constitutional referendum, and was replaced with Harrison I of Bertia, who was the original King. He willingly abdicated the next day.
