A pilot officer is the most junior commissioned officer of the Baustralian Armed Forces, more specifically, His Royal Air Force. It outranks a cadet of the three services, also called midshipmen in His Royal Navy. Its equivalent is a sub lieutenant of the navy, and a second lieutenant of the army. It is outranked by a lieutenant of the navy and army, and a flying officer of the air force.
