Plaid Cymry (English: Party of Welsh Culture) is a Welsh minority interests party in the Republic of Gwladcoeden. The party promotes the Welsh culture in Gwladcoeden and supports official bilingualism (in English and Welsh) in the country. Plaid Cymry also organize events based around Welsh culture.
The party's founding members (in alphabetical order) include: Ałneʼííʼáázh, Dafydd ap Gruffudd, Llywelyn ap Hywel, Grace Wales (formerly Mihangel ap Gareth) and William Denton. The party was founded after the May 2021 Gwladcoedeg general election where Mihangel ap Gareth won 4.6% of the popular vote as an Independent.
History
Plaid Cymry (originally: Plaid Diwylliant Cymry Gwladcoeden) was founded on May 17, 2021 after the May 2021 general election. Welsh wanted to create a Welsh language and culture party as a basis for her independent policies on promoting Welsh culture.
On 20 May 2021, Welsh (as the Welsh Culture and Media Minister) provided the translation of Gwladcoedeg governmental, Senedd, and Supreme Court names in Welsh. Premier Andrew West has expressed approval of the idea.
On 23 May 2021, the party membership decided to remove it's long name and simply name themselves Plaid Cymry. They also applied for an English name (Party of Welsh Culture).
On 28 May 2021, a poll was created in the party to see who they should endorse for the Pendraigol elections, the poll was split three ways (33% for Iacof ap Antoni, 33% Unsure, 33% Nobody). Ultimately, nobody was endorsed.
On 27 June 2021, a poll was created in the party to see whether they should support bilateral ties between Gwladcoeden and the Republic of Belcity.
Policies
Plaid Cymry has officially described themselves as 'centrist', the leader Llinos ferch Gareth stating that they are 'socially and economically neutral' but that 'Culturally, we are fiercely Welsh.'
Plaid Cymry wishes for official language status for Welsh and official bilingualism in Gwladcoeden. This includes all governmental, Senedd, and supreme court names being in English and Welsh as well as encouraging media to be available in Welsh.
Plaid Cymry have also considered bilateral relations between Gwladcoeden and Belcity as a policy.
