The President of Lugrad is the head of state in the Republic of Lugrad. The presidency is legally the highest office in the republic, though in practice is second only to the General-Secretary of the Workers Party. The presidency holds executive power, though tends to delegate the executive powers to the prime minister, and act as a more ceremonial office. The president also chairs the Council of State.

History

The presidency is the oldest established office in Lugrad. It was established by Colin Skyler on 25 February 2023, who took office upon creation of it.

Powers

The president is mandated to have the following powers:

  1. Appoint the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers
  2. Accept the Resignation of the Prime Minister and Other Ministers
  3. Receive and Credit Diplomats
  4. Assume Supreme Command of the Armed Forces and Their Organisation
  5. Declare States of Siege and Emergency
  6. Sign or Veto Bills
  7. Assume All Other Duties Assigned by the Republic
  8. Create and Implement Laws using Presidential Decrees

Appointment

The presidency is appointed by the Assembly of the Republic - the unicameral legislature of the nation. Candidates for president are nominated to the assembly by member parties of the assembly. Each party may nominate a candidate each before moving to voting.

The president-elect is the candidate who wins an overall majority in the election.
