The Prime Minister of New Melanesia is the head of government in the Republic of New Melanesia.
History
The office of prime minister was established on 14 July 2022, when Luke of Wellmoore decided on the legislature to be a parliamentary republic. However, by this time the presidency and the nation had already been established.
Appointment
The prime minister is appointed by the president. The president can appoint any member of the Assembly of the Republic they wish, however they typically appoint the leader of the largest party elected to the assembly as they can command the most confidence in the assembly.
Role
As head of government, the prime minister coordinates the actions of ministers, represents the Government of New Melanesia to the other bodies of state, is accountable to parliament and keeps the president informed. The prime minister also nominates ministers to the president. The prime minister can hold the role of head of government with or without the portfolio of one or more ministries.
