The Principality of Conotopy (Ukrainian: Князівство Конотоп; Ukrainian Latin: Knäzïwstvo Konotop) was the first micronation of Ukraine. It was located in Conotopy and Krolevets raions of Sumy oblast of Ukraine.

The Principality was founded in March 2016 and the Constitution of the Principality of Conotopy was signed in the late 2016. According to an official statement made by the Prince in late 2019, the state was about to cease to exist starting from January 1, 2020.

Geography

Principality of Conotopy was situated in Sumy oblast of Ukraine, Conotopy and Krolevets raions. The river Seym, which was the biggest river of the state, flows through the territory of the Principality of Conotopy. The capital city Conotopy was situated on the man-made river Rhena. There were no mountains in Conotopy.

History and growth

Konotopish European Republic was founded in 2013. It was an indeterminate political organization without a constitution. After that, state's leader Ïllä Jandowsykıj proclaimed himself president-chancellor.

During winter of 2014, Ïllä Jandowsykıj created the Coat of Arms, the National Flag and composed the National Anthem of the Konotopish European Republic. He also established National Council, the national parliament of the Konotopish European Republic.

In July 2014, the National Constitution was signed by the president-chancellor of the Konotopish European Republic, Ïllä Jandowsykıj.

In March 2016, the president-chancellor Ïllä Jandowsykıj turned the Konotopish European Republic into the Principality of Conotopy. A new constitution was signed in the end of the year.

In January 2020, the Principality of Conotopy ceased to exist as a result of principal proclamation made in late 2019.

Demography

The number of the official citizens of the Principality of Conotopy was 6 people, all of which were native Ukrainians. It consisted of five members of the royal family and one other citizen.

The population of the Principality of Conotopy consisted of Ukrainians, Russians, Jews, and Belarusians. The only national language of the Principality of Conotopy was Ukrainian. Nowadays the population of the region is approximately 185 000 people.

Politics

Standard of the Prince of Conotopy

The Principality of Conotopy was a unitary state. Orthodox Church of Ukraine was recognised the official confession of the Principality. The National Council was the supreme legislative power. The Assembly of Ministers was the supreme executive power.

Although the Prince of Conotopy was a limited Monarch whose powers were granted under the Constitution of the Principality of Conotopy, he combined legislative, executive, and judicial functions. The Prince was also a prime minister, and presided over the Assembly of Ministers of the Principality of Conotopy. The Constitution of the Principality of Conotopy formed the basis of the country's legislation.

Main parts of political division of the Principality of Conotopy were cantons. There were 5 cantons in the Principality of Conotopy:

  • Canton of Conotopy, capital city Conotopy
  • Canton of Eudocia, capital city Saint Eudocia
  • Canton of Princeborough, capital city Princeborough
  • Canton of Bershea, capital city Bershea
  • Canton of Sambir, capital city Sambir

The other parts of political division in the Principality of Conotopy were cities and villages. There were five cities in the Principality of Conotopy (Conotopy, Saint Eudocia, Princeborough, Bershea and Sambir).
