The Public Force of Sancratosia (Lingua Franca Nova: Forte Publica de Sancratosia) is the military force of the Principality of Sancratosia. It was established by Sovereign Ordinance no 114 on 29 November 2022 (2022-11-29).[1] There is no conscription in Sancratosia.

Its branches are the Company of the Princely Guards and the Brigade of the Princely Firefighters.

It is a semi-independent entity that is partly responsible to the Ministry of Territory under the Department of Protection.

Symbols

The main symbol of the Public Force is a silver bugle, an instrument that was historically used as a military signal device. It represents the readiness of the Public Force, its discipline and, by depicting an instrument and not a weapon, its peaceful character. The bugle is present on the coat of arms, the flag and the emblem. It is also featured on the Medal of the Public Force.

Command

The Public Force is under the joint command of the Commandant of the Public Force (Lingua Franca Nova: Comandor de la Forte Publica) who holds the rank of colonel, but is referred to as "commandant" for the duration of their posting. The position is currently vacant.

Each service branch is headed by a Chief of the Corps (Lingua Franca Nova: Xef de corpo) who usually holds the rank of colonel or lieutenant colonel.

Ministry of Territory

The Minister of Territory is appointed by the Sovereign Princess of Sancratosia and is responsible for both policing and military activity within Sancratosia, through the Department of Protection. However, according to the Constitution, the Minister of State is responsible for the public force in Sancratosia, mostly relating to the authorization of deployment of troops.

The Public Force is composed of two service branches: the Company of the Princely Guards and the Brigade of the Princely Firefighters. The two branches are full-time militarized armed corps. They both have the same hierarchy, with the same ranks and grades.

Company of the Princely Guards

The Company of the Princely Guards have for mission, to attend to the safety of the Sovereign Princess and their family, to ensure the guard of the Princely Palace, to provide the honorific services, to attend the execution of the laws and participate in the maintain of the public order as well as to execute the missions ordered by the government.

Brigade of the Princely Firefighters

The Brigade of the Princely Firefighters have for mission, to ensure the service of firefighting, of general safety and of emergency in the Principality as well as to lend its help in the maintain of the public order.

Uniforms and equipment

In an effort to reduce the costs and the procurement of uniforms and equipment, both branches of the Public Force share most of the same uniforms and equipment. Some differences exists due to the differences in the duties performed by each branch.

Service members are responsible for supplying and taking care of their own uniforms and equipment, following the guidelines provided by the Public Force.

Uniforms

The uniforms of the Public Force are divided into four orders of dress:

  1. Ceremonial dress
  2. Mess dress
  3. Service dress
  4. Operational dress

Occupational dress, which is specialized uniform articles for particular occupations, also exists.

Service dress serves as the basis for both the ceremonial dress and the mess dress and variations on service dress remains the most common form of dress worn by service members in public. Operational dress is the most suitable for daily wear.

Authorized headdress for the Public Force of Sancratosia are the beret, ballcap, tuque and balaclava. The ballcap is the most widely worn headgear. The beret is usually only worn during parades and ceremonies. The tuque and balaclava are authorized year-round but are usually worn in winter situations only.

Equipment

Due to its peaceful and defensive nature, the Public Force mainly maintains tools and equipment related to emergency preparedness.

Members of both branches carry an axe, a carpenter's and a firefighter's respectively for the Guards and the Firefighters. The axes are sown on their respective emblems.
