The Realms and Territories of the Valdslandic State (otherwise known as either the Realms of Valdsland or simply Valdsland) is a feudal monarchical country ruled by Lord Executor Horatio I Eden; it possesses territories in the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden and Norway.

History

Pre-independence

Prior to declaring independence, the Realms of Valdsland was the Sen8 of the Federal Republic of Whestcorea. However, following attempts at legislation being hamstrung by inactivity from the Whestcorean Congress, the Sen8 succeeded in passing a motion denouncing the Whestcorean Constitution and creating a nation in and of themselves on 19 June 2016. This shut down the Sen8 and removed its legislative power.

Independence

Following declaration of independence, a constitutional convention was called to determine what the next step for the country would be. It was decided by the delegation to the convention that democracy had been the main failing of the original Federal Republic, and it was decided that a more feudal system with a legislature appointed by a single, overarching monarchy would be more conducive to legislative efficiency.

Horatio Eden then announced his claim to the throne of the country, which was named the Crimson Throne.

Whestcorea having left no true issue of its body, and being of noble birth through my imperial claim upon the autonomous vassal state of Japanitania, I, Horatio Eden, do this day lay claim to the Crimson Throne of Valdsland. Let all true men declare their loyalty.

— Horatio Eden

A majority of the Convention declared their loyalty, coronating Eden on 20 June 2016, the day after the opening of the convention.

Political system

The nation is a feudal monarchy, with Lord Executor Horatio I Eden's decrees having full legislative effect. There is also a Parliament, appointed as an advisory body to the Lordly Executive, which may debate and propose bills to the Lord Executor for final approval. However, vetoes originating in the Lordly Executive cannot be overturned.

Lordly Executive

The Lordly Executive, as a body, is composed of the Lord Executor themselves (who possesses full executive and legislative power) and an inner council of Lord Protectors, whom they appoint to have executive power over the various territories and cities of the nation. Decrees from the Lordly Executive in practice come from either the Lord Executor or someone they have legally appointed to make a decree on their behalf.

House of Eden

The Valdslandic House of Eden is the Royal House of the country.

It's seat, New Pyongyang, is the capital of the country, making the Lord of the House, Horatio I Eden, Lord Protector of both the Valdslandic Realm at large and of the city of New Pyongyang specifically.

The sigil of House Eden is a blue fleur de lis, which, given the House's position as the Lordly Executive of the nation, currently defaces the Royal Standard.

Geography

The Realms of Valdsland possesses multiple territories intermacronationally. Ceding a territory to Valdsland requires approval from the Lordly Executive; the owner of the land is then named Lord Protector - unless the Lordly Executive determines that the territory is a legal Territory rather than a Realm, in which case it would be directly administrated to by them - giving them effective executive power over the land (with the Lord Executor serving as their liege-lord), as well as a seat in the House of Delegates and often a seat on the Lord Executor's inner council.

Realms

Realms are large areas of Valdslandic territory that are granted a degree of autonomy; this means that, upon their being ceded to the nation, the owner of the land is appointed as a Lord Protector, meaning that executive power over the land is, in practice, delegated to the Lord Protector of the Realm. While this does not remove the Lord Executor's overriding authority, it does differentiate it significantly from a Territory.

There are three types of Realm, though the differences merely reflect the location of the Realm rather than any legal or practical inequality. Landgraviates and Margraviates are (relatively) larger Realms, with the distinction representing if a Realm is located more centrally (within the British Isles), for a Landgrave, or more externally (outside of the British Isles) for a Margrave. Regardless of location, a city that is itself a Realm is a Burgraviate.

Territories

Territories are large areas of Valdslandic territory that are administered to directly by the Lordly Executive; this means that, upon their being ceded to the nation, the Lord Executor becomes de facto owner of the land and something akin to a Lord Protector thereof, though they do not receive this title. The Lord Executor thus has more explicit and direct authority over the land itself, rather than practically delegating it to a Lord Protector.
