Alamantia, officially the Republic of Alamantia, was a micronation founded in January 2014. It claimed territories located in North America, more specifically in southern New Hampshire. It has been inactive since 2014.

History

Establishment

The history of Alamantia started after one of its founders, Adam Judge, learned about micronations on the internet, and thought they were pretty nifty. He then decided to create one along with his friend Joseph Islam. Mr. Islam created the name "Alamantia" and they agreed on the name "The United Land of Alamantia". Mr. Judge wrote a temporary constitution that established a basic governing system in which he and Mr. Islam, the Administrators, had legislative and executive power over the nation. They could also create various departments to control certain things. This constitution was ratified by both Mr. Judge and Mr. Islam two days later on 18 January 2014. Then, more than a month later, Mr. Judge and Mr. Islam decided that the name would be changed to the current name and a better constitution would be written. Mr. Judge began to draft it on 20 February 2014, and a few weeks later it was ratified.

War for the Pavement

On 5 March 2014, Alamantia entered a brief undeclared war with the United States (although the US probably didn't notice). While waiting outside for the first class of the school day, Adam Judge and Joseph Islam conquered one square foot of land by drawing the Alamantian flag and writing "Alamantia" in the thin layer of snow on the pavement they were standing on. Then, after not much time had passed, another student (American) erased the flag and the writing. Seeing that their new territory was destroyed, Mr. Judge and Mr. Islam handed the land back over to the United States and the school. Although no one was keeping track of time, it is estimated that the entire war, from conquering the territory to giving it back, took place in the span of approximately one minute. No lives were lost and there were no injuries.

Tensions with Kzechistan

One of Adam Judge's friends, Dylan Clivio, decided to form his own micronation after being told about Alamantia. He created the Kzechistan Dictatorship, a humorously designed micronation, which, even though it was never fully and formally established, threatened Alamantia. Clivio stated several times that he was going to go to war with Alamantia (although it was unknown if that was true, a bluff, or an example of Kzechistan's humor). On March 7, 2014, the Grand Iomple wrote the Non-Aggression Pact with Kzechistan, which was later given to Clivio. However, he did not make an official decision on whether to agree to it. He also stated that if his micronation were to declare war, it would not be until that summer.
Alamantia started prepping for war, in case Kzechistan made a surprise attack. The Grand Iomple established the Ministry of Defense and appointed Autumn Hillaire as Minister of Defense.
On March 12, misinterpretation of information led the members of the Grand Iomple to believe that Kzechistan had declared war. However, after confirmation from Clivio later that day, it was discovered that this was not true. War never did occur, as both parties became inactive before anything major happened.

Temporary Constitution Government

Under the temporary first constitution, a system of government was created that gave almost dictatorial power to two leaders who were democratically elected, but they both had to agree to do anything. This was called the Administration. The Administration could also create departments that would control other parts of government. For example, even though there never were enough citizens to do this under the temporary constitution, it recommended the creation of a judicial department, as no actual judicial branch was created.

New Constitution Government

The new constitution, both its wording and ideas, was strongly influenced by the United States Constitution. The new constitution establishes the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, with each one receiving detailed explanation. The executive branch consists of the Grand Iomple, which consists of two elected members who both must agree on actions called Iomples, and a Cabinet, which consists of various Ministers. Currently, the Cabinet has the positions of the Ministers of Foreign Relations, Finance, Immigration, and Public Services, each one leading their respective Ministries. The Grand Iomple has the powers to sign bills into law, to veto bills, and to nominate people for positions such as Ministers and Court Justices.

Amendment 1 to the New Constitution states that the Iomples may change the number of Grand Iomple members by appointing new members or removing previous members.

The legislative branch consists of a Biewog, which consists of two Bieweis for each province and one of the Iomples to act as President. The Biewog has meetings at least every month, when they introduce bills, debate about them, and pass them onto the Grand Iomple. More than half of the Bieweis must vote for a bill for it to be sent to the Grand Iomple. The President of the Biewog is one of the Iomples of the Grand Iomple who is chosen by the Senate.

Lastly, the judicial branch consists of the Court. Only one court is needed as the population is so low. The Court consists of the Grand Justice, who presides over two Justices. The Court tries all cases regarding the law, decides the proper punishment for criminals, and interprets the law.

The new constitution also goes into detail about things such as citizenship, finance and economy, rules for foreign relations, and how amendments are to be made.

Until enough people are put into the Cabinet, Biewog, and Court for them to be activated, the Grand Iomple serves as those positions.

Geography and Climate

A scene of New Hampshire in autumn.

Alamantia, being within the state of New Hampshire, experiences a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, wet winters, and uniform precipitation all year. Average annual snowfall ranges from 60 inches (150 cm) to over 100 inches (250 cm). In July, average daytime high temperatures are in the mid 70s °F to low 80s °F (around 24–28 °C). January temperatures range from an average high of 34 °F (1 °F) to an overnight low of below 0 °F (-18 °F). Extreme snow is often associated with a nor'easter, and lighter snowfalls of several inches occur frequently throughout winter. New Hampshire, on occasion, is affected by hurricanes and tropical storms although by the time they reach the state they are often extratropical, with most storms striking the southern New England coastline and moving inland or passing by offshore in the Gulf of Maine. Most of New Hampshire averages fewer than 20 days of thunderstorms per year and an average of two tornadoes occur annually statewide.

The most beautiful thing about the region's climate is that in autumn, the leaves of many trees turn to brilliant reds, oranges, browns, and yellows. However, they do tend to pile up in people's yards.

Alamantia currently possesses several land claims within the town of Londonderry: the Ionsein (Yon-sain) Province with an area of half an acre, the Tsvehk (Zvek) Province, and the Iomplemien (Yomp-Plueh-Main) Province, which consists of one square inch of land. Along with those are two territories, one next to the Tsvehk Province and the other next to the Ionsein Province. These claims of land are woodland areas that are not being used for anything else, so they are claimed by Alamantia. They are both mostly unexplored and while they are Alamantian land claims, they are not yet official provinces.

The capital city has not yet been decided.
