The Republic of Antares (official name: República d'Antares) is a micronation founded on april 7th, 2015. Its old name is "República Ibérica de Antares".

Etymology

The name "Antares" is by the name of a constellation.

History

The Republic of Antares was founded with the name of "Iberian Republic of Antares" on April 7, 2015. The first president of the republic was Lluís Esteve, elected by the constituent assembly. The declaration of constitution of the Iberian Republic of Antares and the appointment as president of Lluís Esteve was in the Palau Moro (Moro Palace) in the historical province of the Paradise. In August 2015 it was decided that the state religion would be Confucianism and its philosophy, although equally, the Antarian culture has Christian reminiscences and the majority of the population is of catholic creed.

In mid-October 2015, President Lluís Esteve resigned from office for the scandal and pressure stemming from his involvement in cases of political corruption. Shortly thereafter, on November 1, the first democratic elections were held and by universal suffrage, which was clearly won by the current president, Amadeu Ros, of the PLiD (Partit Liberal i Democràtic). It was the new government that changed much of the national structure, giving a remarkable boost to the nation. On 2 December, the Consell, the democratic and popular governing body, changed the former name of "Iberian Republic of Antares" by the current official of Republic of Antares. Other relevant changes were the change of official language, which changed from Spanish to Valencian, and the change of currency, which changed from the old Antarian shields to the pessetes (actualy "Diners").

On January 18, the government decided to dissolve the "Republic of Antares" and announced that the territory of the province of the Viñedos would become the current Antares, which would be incorporated as a semi-autonomous province to another micronation. The 22 of January was decided the union with the republic of Polanda and the name of Antares would happen to be "Province of Antares". The new capital was Louisville, renamed from that moment to La Vila d'en Lluís. The government of Antares and its people gave up all their other lands, like the province of the Paradise or the one of Gallineras.

On February 2, 2016, after the complaints of some groups by the political state of that time in Antares and after passing a citizen council, the government of Antares presented the declaration of independence to the government of the Republic of Polanda and that same day, Antares regained his self-government. Amadeu Ros would continue until the next election in March, to which he announced that he would not appear. On February 26 of that same year, the entry of Antares into the OCDM (Organization for the Cooperation and Development of Micronations) was approved. On March 2, 2016, the Antarian exploration troops settled on a plot of land annexed to the republic and baptized as Sant Jaume de Quart. In these times Antares has several protectorates and colonies, in addition to the previously named is the protectorate of the Camarena Strip. On March 6, the General Council announces that, due to a lack of candidates and political parties present for the March 25 general elections, they are annulled.

On April 1, 2016, the General Council appointed as head of state the former president of Antares and father of the country Luis Esteban, who swore the same day the position and took possession of it.
