The Republic of Dayane is a sovereign microstate, more commonly referred to as a micronation by external observers, surrounded completely on all sides by the US state of Nebraska. It was founded on 22 June 2015 by three junior high-aged boys. It has grown significantly in population in the years since and the original founders are still involved with the nation, though it has grown far beyond what they imagined. The Republic holds dearly its values of freedom and security, and it has a government that is held directly accountable to the people. Its constitution balances the power of the multiple branches of government and the people in order to create a more free, more perfect union.

History

Dayane was founded in 2015 by a crowd of middle school kids who had keen interest in politics and wanted to form their own union. Their first President, Judah, held office for 5 years. He chaired the Conservative political party which was de-established in 2020. He chose to not run for re-election in 2020 and his younger brother Luka won the office. Luka's administration was surrounded in controversy which culminated in his impeachment in February 2021 for dereliction of duty and alleged rampant corruption in his administration. Although the President denied the allegations, and many citizens were extremely loyal to him, the Senate's impeachment prevailed and the Supreme Court ordered a special election. During March the anti-Luka Democratic Conservative Party was formed and they held a close primary between two of the most popular Senators. Former Vice President Clark H. Moghadam prevailed in a tight race. After the primary, President Luka resigned his Presidency and his Vice-President Rose took control of the office. On March 31, 2021 Senator Clark won the election and was subsequently sworn in, ushering a new period of change in the nation.

Law and order

The Dayane Police Force (DPD) currently enforces all laws and bills. The Chief of Police is the head of the organization. The Dayane Intelligence Force (DIF, established 2021) conducts intelligence operations domestically and abroad. They work collaboratively with the DPD and the National Dayane Militia (NDM) to ensure national security. The Director of National Intelligence is the head of organization and a member of the President's National Security Council. The DIF has also been accused of being involved in secret anti-communist intelligence operations with AMAC but President Moghadam denies all accusations.

Government

Dayane has a constitutional republic system that functionally resembles that of the United States of America. The founders of Dayane had utmost respect for the American Founders and their works have played a major role in the forming of the Dayane constitution. The national motto is a quote from Thomas Jefferson regarding the governments accountability to the people. The Dayane government consists of three branches, the Judicial Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Executive Branch.

The Judicial Branch

The Judicial Branch currently consists of three Judges who make up the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has heard a variety of legal cases including landmark cases on impeachment, election integrity, and terrorist charges. As of this writing the Supreme Court is the sole legal court in the nation.

A Judge is appointed to the Supreme Court by the President and confirmed by a simple majority vote in the Senate. A Supreme Court term lasts 18 months and cannot be renewed, however a Judge can resign and the Senate can remove a Justice by a unanimous vote of all seven Senators. Once one has left the Court they are unable under any circumstances to be reseated. There must be at least one active Justice on the Court at all times and no more than five total Justices can be serving at one time. Currently there are three Judges on the Court although two are currently inactive.

The Legislative Branch

The Legislative Branch consists of seven elected representatives who make up the Senate. Senators are elected to six month long terms through a mass election using the Single Transferable Vote system.

The Senate has sole lawmaking abilities and also sets the budget and has sole power to enact taxes, although to this date taxes have never been implemented. The Senate also is tasked with confirming Presidential Cabinet picks and confirming those who have been appointed by the President to receive the title of Diplomat. At the beginning of every new Senate term, the Senator choose one of themselves to become the Senate Leader.

The Senate Leader runs Senate meetings and is responsible for updating the public on Senate proceedings and sending bills to the President. The Senate Leader is typically a member of the majority party although that is not necessarily a rule.

The Executive Branch

All executive power is vested in the President. The constitution defines the President as Head of State, Head of Government, Chief Ambassador, Chief Citizen, Chief Executive, and Commander-In-Chief. The Vice President, joined with the Secretaries of the Executive Departments, make up the Cabinet. Currently the active Executive Departments are the Department of State, the Department of War, and the Department of the Treasury.

The President is also the head of the National Security Council which consists of the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Advisor, the Commander of the Militia, and the Director of National Intelligence.

The President has sole veto power of Senate bills, though a veto can be overridden by a 6/7 Senate vote. The President is also able to write laws to send to the Senate to pass but the Senate is not legally obligated to consider his bills. Although the Senate has sole power to set the budget and collect taxes, the President has the duty of deciding how to use the money budgeted and tasked with enforcing the laws passed by the Senate.

Foreign relations

Dayane's former President had considered declaring cold war on "all communist micronations" but the Senate was very opposed to the idea. Regardless, the entire country does hold their values of economic freedom very dear. Due to this, Dayane founded the Assembly of Micronations Against Communism (AMAC). The Free Empire of Highland joined Dayane in AMAC, and after most of the nations went inactive, the Timonoucite Empire joined. Dayane and the assembly also hope to eliminate terrorism and Nazism and promote economic freedom in not just micronations but also nanonations and macronations. Under President Moghadam, the nation has expressed interest in furthering it's international activity and establishing formal diplomatic ties with foreign nations.

Military

Dayane is currently training and equipping The National Dayanean Militia (NDM) in case of further involvement in AMAC. Dayanean officials have stated that Dayane's arsenal and the strength of the new military is "every day getting stronger" and they are "now even more confident in the success of their probable future war." The NDM consists of 12 personnel. Soldiers are trained in kickboxing and marksmanship and some are equipped with AR-15s and .22 Caliber Revolvers. The head of the militia is given the rank of Commander and is a member of the National Security Council.

Economy

Dayane has held very deeply to its beliefs in free markets and low-restriction domestic trade. This has lead to Dayane being very anti-socialist in its domestic politics. Government non-intervention into the economy may have been a factor in the crash of the economy in 2018. As a result of that situation, President Luka created the Department of the Treasury and President Clark has been rumored to be considering the opening of a central bank.
As Dayanean businesses are starting to bloom again, the stock market is starting to once again see life. Insurance companies and law firms are opening in the country. Some businesses have been considering becoming international corporations. The economy has a very bright future even though as of now it is very small and humble.

The United States Dollar is currently used as the official currency in Dayane. This is set to change as Dayane’s economy grows and the wealth of the nation provides the recourses needed to sustain the production and upkeep of a new monetary system.

Culture

Playing recreational sports is a very common pastime among citizens of Dayane. Basketball is very popular in Dayane among the male population. The female population of Dayane primarily enjoys volleyball. Barbecue is a central part of Dayanean cuisine, inherited from Dayane's presence in the Midwest region of the United States. Dayane has a young population and many of the residents are active on social media and enjoy going to concerts and parties. A lot of Dayane discourse takes place on Discord where citizens discuss micronational events and government officials do their work. But many Dayanean activities take place in person as well. This includes trials, campaign events, inaugurations, trading, and many other activities. Dayanean citizens are very racially diverse and racism has never been a problem in the country.

Media

At the moment Dayane has two media organization that is delivering news to the citizens, it is a small operation but rapidly growing. Other media organizations have existed in the past including a YouTube channel and a news website but since the economic crash of 2018, the nation has had only one prominent new source.
