Republic of Manitau, more commonly known as Manitau, is a micronation located in the Central Region, of the State of Ohio. It's current ruler is King Miller I. The first ever ruler over Manitau, and is responsible for establishing the basis of the Manitauian Constitution, and how the Manitauian Government is run. He is responsible for many basic things that made the Micronation what it is today. The mainland of the Republic of Manitau is completely landlocked within the Continental United States of America, and its borders stretch within the US state of Ohio, and parts of Florida. It also claims some coastal territories, such as some territory on Sanibel Island. The Republic of Manitau currently consists of 5 provinces and 1 city-province. They are the Province of Moccasia, Buckeye, Otchipwe, and Solis are all of the mainland provinces, meanwhile the Sanibel Province is located on Sanibel Island. Manitau declared its independence against the United States on September 27, 2022. And is widely celebrated in the country as "Independence Day."
The current ruling government over Manitau is the Manitauian Royal Family. The capital of Manitau is Solis. Moccasia was the planned capital after Manitau's Declaration of Independence, but due to is geographic location and strategic location, along with some other undisclosed benefits, Solis was chosen as the Capital of Manitau. The Government of Manitau is a Constitutional Monarchy, ruled by King Miller I. It is on the rise with a constant population increase and quality of life, as well as a growing economy.
Manitau is an Observer of the Alliance of the Micronations.
Etymology
The name "Manitau" (ˈmanəˌto͞o) was a word used by the Algonquian speaking tribes, such as the Shawnee that settled in and around the area where the Republic of Manitau is set fourth. The word "Manitau" means good or evil spirit. In the Algonquian cultures the Manitau could take the shape of a bison, bear, wolf, mountain lion, bobcat, deer, bird, or some other types of animals. Which a male deer (stag) is represented on the Coat of arms. Meanwhile, a Stag and a Horse are both represented on the Royal Family of Manitau's Coat of arms.
History
Prelude and establishment of the Republic of Manitau
Ever since he started gaining a passion for micronational independence, around early 2022, King Miller I wished to establish a micronation within where he lives, and his other favorite places. After a long period of thinking and observing, while also studying other micronations. King Miller I founded Manitau on September 27, 2022. He proclaimed the independence and establishment of the Republic of Manitau and determined that its form of government would be a constitutional monarchy with him being the appointed King and head of state of the nation. At that time, the nation had a single citizen which was him, the King.
Initial period
Monarchy (1st Government) (September 27th, 2022 – September 29th, 2022)
The Republic of Manitau was a consitutional monarchy between September 27, 2022, through September 28th, 2022. One day following the establishment of the nation, King Miller I decided to base his new micronation on the territorial integrity of some technology that he owned. Also, he claim the property on which he resided as part of the nation in order to sway away from the grasp of simulation-ism.
First Manitauian Civil War
On September 29, 2022, opposition in one of the provinces started to rise to power, established a new sovereign state named The Kingdom of Lilium on Manitau's claimed land. After the establishment Lilium officially declared war on Manitau. Manitau saw fierce resistance from Lilium and the war was in a stalemate for a day, later the next day the fighting was taking some progress and Manitauian-Backed Militias took control of Liliums capital. Later the militiamen surrounded the Lilium troops and surrendered, making it a decisive Manitau victory.
After-Effects of the Civil War
It helped King Miller I to recognize that the basic monarchy that he established was unstable. Some of the citizens later threatened to go to war with Manitau if it was kept in place. So King Miller I decided to take more control of Manitau and turn it back into a constitutional monarchy. It was followed with the formerly dissident citizen re-joining the nation, and becoming a contributor to several industries. They are now great friends with the King and signed a treaty for peace, Lilium was dissolved and renamed to Buckeye. And is now the present-day Buckeye Province.
(September 29th, 2022-Current) Second Government of Manitau
The First Government of Manitau is the first and present government ruling over Manitau. In order to help the formation of the First Government, Lilium rejoined the nation with the government ruling over the land by King Miller I, and then rejoined the nation once again. The First Government was formally inaugurated by King Miller I on September 28, 2022. It was called the First Government and had an uncodified constitution. Under the First Government, Manitau experienced steady economic growth and development as well as established relations with other fellow nations. The nation also became very stable and experienced an influx of citizens during that time. The desire of Lilium to regain its independence, had been crushed an a united Manitau boosted the populations morale.
Politics and Government
Constitution
With the imminent collapse of the absolute monarchy, the King started discussing the establishment of democracy in the nation. Under the commission, a committee was established in order to draft a constitution for Manitau. After multiple tries, a constitution was created, named as The Basic Laws of Manitau. Though the constitution provided stability to the newly democratic nation. The current version which has been into force since October 3, 2022. has undergone seven amendments. It describes procedures of the monarchy, as well as listing how the branches of the government were to function. It also defines Manitau as a liberal democracy and ensures the freedom and rights including the freedom of speech and the right to vote and contest elections.
Foreign Relations
From 2 October 2022 the Kingdom of Suteria recognizes the Republic of Manitau.
