The Republic of Neeburm, commonly known as Neeburm, is a micronation situated in Davis County in Utah, United States. It was founded 23 October 2021 on "Shadow Day" near the border between Bountiful and Centerville, Utah. Neeburm is surrounded by the United States and not recognized by any United Nations member state. Neeburm claims territory in the cities of Bountiful, Centerville, and Farmington, Utah. It is based at Centerville Junior High, also known as Bermia by Neeburmians.

Etymology

Neeburm was originally titled as Trombonia, as the founders were part of the trombone section of the band at Centerville Junior High. Later, the name was changed to Neeburm to include people outside of the trombone section. Neeburm was a completely made up word.

History

The Beginning/The Monarchy and Smith Administration

The concept of Neeburm arose in the trombone section of a band class. It was originally known as Trombonia, but saw no stability as governments changed rapidly. Eventually, the nation was established fully as a constitutional monarchy with Spencer Terry as the king and Corban Smith as the chancellor. The name was then changed to Neeburm to show acceptance to people who didn't play trombone.

As Corban Smith's popularity grew and the monarch's diminished, Corban Smith led a coup against Spencer Terry. Spencer Terry abdicated and Corban Smith transformed Neeburm into a democratic republic. Following the October 2021 Election, Corban Smith won and was established as the Prime Minister. This day is now known as Shadow Day, an official Neeburmian holiday, and recognized as the day when Neeburm was founded.

During Smith's administration, Otto Paxton joined Trombonia. Since Otto Paxton wasn't a trombone, the republic was soon renamed to Neeburm. Otto was appointed as the chancellor by Corban Smith because Otto helped buy the Neeburmians a pizza.

The Second Era/The Paxton Administration

Following the November 2021 Election, Otto Paxton won and replaced Corban Smith as the Prime Minister of Neeburm. During Otto's term, many positive and negative things took place. A union was temporarily formed with the Banana Empire. However, Otto Paxton was forced to pull out of the union due to low support for it, mainly due to the Banana Empire's talks on reforming the Soviet Union. Sour relations between Neeburm and the Banana Empire would persist. During Otto Paxton's administration, the government was expanded, as new citizens joined the republic and new positions were created.

A Month of Neeburm

After a year, the Republic of Neeburm seemed as though it was fading away. However, a sudden rebirth of patriotism took place. The flag was adjusted to have a darker, more appealing shade of blue and have more even shapes in its stripes. A new and neater coat of arms was created to show off more unity and passion within the nation. This sudden patriotism didn't last long, however, and the flame seemed to die again after a month.

The Third Era/The Jardine Administration

After a year, on 28 November 2023, the Neeburmian Political Party was created by Gabe Jardine (the president of the party), Russel Webster, Corban Smith (both vice presidents), and Carter Richardson (secretary) to create authority within the Madrigals Choir group chat at Centerville Junior High. The party was disbanded, but Neeburmian nationalism hit a sudden resurgence of patriotism. New motives to spread and share the ideas of the nation and a sudden surge of national projects emerged, such as sheet music for the anthem, updates to the MicroWiki page, flag fixes, and hopes to hold elections to keep democracy in the nation. A new election was held (the January 2024 Election). Gabe Jardine won this election, and a new government was established with the ratification of the January Constitution by several major political figures in Neeburm. Gabe Jardine served as the Prime Minister, with Corban Smith, Ashton Hall, and Dylan Hall as members of the newly established Grand Council and Carter Richardson (and later Gabe Fowers) as the Vice Minister. New political parties were established. Carter Richardson founded the Conservative Party, Corban Smith founded the Centrist Party, Hayden Thomson founded the Communist Party. Arguments were held over the future of the government, and the February Elections were held. The National Army was established by the Minister of Defense (Kellen Farmer), the Secretary of Defense (Joseph Sly, Who has put in his two week notice of resignation), and prominent Military figure Beckett Heaton. The administration came to an end in the February-March 2024 Election, when Gabe lost to Carter Richardson.

The Fourth Era/The Richardson Administration

The February-March 2024 Election saw figures from all four political parties (Gabe Jardine from the Centrists, Carter Richardson from the Conservatives, Hayden Thomson from the Communists, and Joseph Sly from the High Table party. In the end, Carter Richardson became the Prime Minister, with Corban Smith, Dylan Hall, Ashton Hall, and Beckett Heaton as the Grand Council Members (and notably, Otto Paxton as the Vice Minister).

During the Jardine Administration, diplomacy was set up with the United Republic of Kyzakia. The two began by mutual recognition, but Neeburm expanded to a much more powerful country, so what started with mutual recognition was later changed to the Neeburmian-Kyzakian Treaty that would unite the Foreign and Defensive interests with Kyzakia becoming a protectorate of Neeburm, made possible with Kyzakia's Keiser Gabe Wynn, a Neeburmian citizen, and his close ties with the government leaders of Neeburm. This Treaty would go into effect on 9 March 2024.

March Expansion

During this time under the Richardson Administration, Neeburm would start what would be known as the March Expansion, leading to the Neeburmian-Kyzakian Treaty, as well as border adjustments expanding Neeburm's northern border to go along Davis Creek in Farmington, UT and expanding the southern border to encompass the local Viewmont High School and the road leading to it. The Military also would be nationalized to strengthen government control and prevent possible coups.

Politics and Government

The Republic of Neeburm is a democratic republic governed and carried out by numerous government positions. Powers and procedures for major positions, along with rights of the citizens are outlined in the Neeburmian Constitution.

Prime Minister

The Prime Minister is in charge of the government and is elected into power. (Carter Richardson)

Vice Prime Minister

The Vice Prime Minister basically acts as a fill-in if the Prime Minister or a Grand Councilor is unable to properly fulfill their duties. (Otto Paxton)

Grand Council

There are five council members that make up the Grand Council, each with one vote, who make the decisions for the nation about war, polices, law, and other political affairs, along with counseling the Prime Minister. (Corban Smith, Ashton Hall, Dylan Hall, Beckett Heaton, Gabe Jardine)

Secretary of State

The Secretary of State takes care of all citizenship matters, the Neeburmian MicroWiki page and other online presences, as well as scheduling and presiding over meetings. (Russell Webster)

Historical foreign relations

The Republic of Neeburm has severed relations with the Banana Empire, mainly because of ideological differences (mostly because they tried to reform the Soviet Union). Otto Paxton, once the Neeburmian leader, dictated over the Banana Empire for a time, making Neeburm's relationships with the Banana Empire much more complicated, and was likely one of the key factors resulting in him being voted out of office.

Following the beginning of the Jardine Administration, Carter Richardson was assigned the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs and instructed by the government to open up relations with other micronations. Before this, mutual recognition was set up with the United Republic of Kyzakia, founded by Gabriel Wynn, former Foreign Minister of Neeburm. Carter Richardson recognized the Kingdom of Liahonia and the Republic of Felsenia, as well as the Emu population of Australia as the true successors to the original British colony established there. Relations are currently being established with Liahonia and Felsenia.
