The Roman Imperial Gendarmerie (Roman Greek: Ῥωμαϊκὴ Βασιλικὴ Χωροφυλακή) is the security force of Rhomania that was established on 28 July 2020. The main duty of the Gendarmerie is the enforcement of the law, in time of peace, and extends to national defense, in times of war.

Ranks

The ranking of the Imperial Gendarmerie is based on the template set by NATO, with the ranks themselves corresponding to roughly similar ranks of the infantry of the Eastern Roman Empire. For the ranks missing, the Gendarmerie has borrowed terminology from the Hellenic Royal Gendarmerie or has invented completely new rank names. The ranks follow military terminology for commissioned officers and the public for the non-commissioned.

Light blue background indicates a currently occupied rank, whereas grey background indicates a rank that, though extant on paper, has not yet been used.

Officer ranks

Officer ranks, corresponding to NATO Codes OF-1 through 10, are available to those who have joined the Imperial Gendarmerie having prior military or similar training in any other armed force, as well as those who have honorably been awarded the OF-1 ranks of Ypomœ́rarchos (First Lieutenant, literally Sub-mœ́ra ruler) or Anthypomœ́rarchos (Second Lieutenant, literally Anti-Sub-mœ́ra ruler).

Special forces

The Gendarmerie maintains a Special Forces Command (Roman Greek: Διοίκησις Εἰδικῶν Δυνάμεων), under which the Raiders Forces (Roman Greek: Δυνάμεις Καταδρομῶν) operate. The Raiders Forces are only accessible to those who have completed relevant training in the Special Forces of the Greek or any other army.

On November 18, 2021, the Raiders Forces were reorganised into a Company-sized formation, changing their name to "Sacred Company", in honour of the various historical Greek military formations of the same name.
