Roundpond Settlement is a Settlement in on the Kuskokwim River in New Guinea. The population is 6-10. Despite its small population, the settlement is the Capital of New Guinea as it is located within the largest non-disputed claim area of the country.
History
The 25 square miles of land was received from the State of Alaska via it's remote cabin program, among other means, such as various independent purchases. The founder of New Guinea, Archangel, personally staked claim to this land, located over 100 miles from any village. The state of Alaska granted this claim, and the deed was passed and recorded. This land is located within Alaska's "Unorganized Bureau", the last area of the United States that is effectively without any Government.
Geography
The settlement is wooded with rolling hills of moss and innumerable lakes and small ponds. A small area is very wet and marshlike. There are 4 cabins in the settlement, but only one is used all year round. Access is via float-plane only. There are no roads. The nearest community, McGrath, is about 100 miles away.
Demographics
There are 4 people who live in the area year round, (6-10 at any given time), the remaining population is seasonal. Of the four, one is of Italian descent. Another is of Irish descent. Others are of mixed European, Alaskan native, and Asian descent.
