The Grand Republic of United Salado, (Spanish: "Gran Republica de Unido Salado"), United Salado or just the Salado is a democratic self-declared sovereign state more commonly known as a Micronation in the Des Plaines Valley Sector. It was founded after the fall of Rodentia by a group of humans who were administrators of the area. It still allows squirrels and ducks to become citizens, making Salado the nation with the largest Rodentian population.

History

Empire of Rodentia

Following the Republic of Rodentia coup, Edward Oaches ordered conscription and sent military forces in every direction from Sunrise. The first territory to be annexed was just south of Sunrise. The same army sent to annex Silver Port was ordered to head north and move north until reaching the Rainbowlands. This operation took a week to set up settlements along the narrow strip of land on the west bank of the Des Plaines River. The biggest settlement was Alow, which had a natural port and was near the border of the Rainbowlands. The territory that Salado has would become the Strip Province.

Independence

After the fall of the Empire of Rodentia, the Strip Province became stateless and lawless. Some Weg citizens moved into Salado to claim free land for ranching. The Town Council of Alow began mobilizing former Rodentian military units in order to take control The Town Council passed the State Decree and the Salado constitution founding the republic.

Migration

After the founding of Salado Wegs, Rainbowlanders, and Chavaleirs began acquiring citizenship. Salado began a residency certification program similar to Weg provinces in order to grow the economy and legal population. Alow grew into a city and hub for vessels traveling from New German lands to the Chavaleir Union or the Rainbowlands. Known as a bypass city, Salados sold goods at the Port of Alow which began transit into the PUCS.

Marti Presidency

Marti Marti was put into office in 1 June 2022 as the second president of Salado. He was a Chavaleir Citizen. He sent some troops on an operation to remove the Philmont Republic from Chicagoland. On 11 June Salado Army attacked a small territorial possession in Wheaton. Because of the success of this operation, he was re-elected. The Marti Presidency has been fairly socially democratic. Salado citizens have many rights and can obtain capital through the Bank of Alow and the state-owned Salado Republican Bank.

Politics and government

Salado is a presidential republic with executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The people of Salado have been historically liberal, even during Rodentian colonization. The government of Salado has welfare programs and imposes some regulations on the Salado Stock Market and other trade.

Legislative

The Salado Congress is made up of two branches. The lower house is the "Councillo del Pueblo" or the Council of the People is made up 6 representatives from 5 representative districts. Typically legislation is proposed through the lower house by public petition. LEgistlation is voted upon through a simple majority and passed to the upper house: "Councillo del Condados" or Council of the Counties. The Council of the Counties comprises the 3 commissioners from the three counties of Salado. The commissioners approve bills from the lower house by unaminous resolution. The bill is then sent to the President of the Grand Republic.

Judicial

The High Court of Salado is the constitutional court of Salado and reviews legislation to be constitutional. They are three other general courts in the 3 Salado Counties. These three courts deal with criminal and civil procedures.

Executive

The President of the Grand Republic is the head of state and head of government of Salado. The president promulgates all legislation from congress. The president can veto legislation and the legislation goes back to the lower house. The lower house can only counter a veto through a unanimous vote or a public petition of 15 signatures. There are 5 departments in the Salado Cabinet, secretaries are appointed by the President and approved by the Council of Counties. The 5 departments are:

  • Department of Commerce and Infrastructure
  • Department of War
  • Department of Health and Welfare
  • Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade
  • Department of Education

Military

The Salado armed forces are administrated by the Salado Department of War. There are 3 branches, Salado Army, Salado Navy, and the Salado Air Force. The Salado Army is the largest. The Salado armed forces are the fourth largest military in the Des Plaines Valley, behind the Chavaleir Republic but ahead of Levare. The Salado Armed Forces have to sever organized militia elements for interior affairs and emergency management.

Law and Order

The National Police of Salado is the sole civilian police agency in Salado. They are 5 police districts mirroring the 5 representative districts. The National Police is governed by its own chapter in the constitution. The Police are often unarmed and deal with de-escalation. Law enforcement in Salado had to face drastic changes from the secret police that the Rodentian empire administrated.

Political Parties

There are three major political parties in Salado. The social democrat part is the largest. Their policies are welfare assistance based and some market regulation. The second largest is the Conservative Party which advocates for smaller government interference in the economy. The other is the General Socialist Party, which is a coalition of socialists and communists in Salado. It varies from Weg socialist theory and marxist-lenninism.

Foreign relations

Salado participates in foreign affairs only with the Des Plaines Valley and Fox River Valley. Salado has an embassy in Two Pine and multiple consulates in Wegmat. Alow is a major trade hub and is a stop for merchants traveling on the river due to its cheap hostels and saloons.

Geography and Climate

Salado is primarily a narrow strip of land located on the west bank of the Des Plaines River between Port Bodwatmi and the Belmont Line. It is a major floodplain for much of its length making the southern part of Salado infertile and uninhabited. Washtenaw and Alow are the largest cities in Salado.

Political Geography

Salado is made up of three counties. Washtenaw county, Alow County and Alfredos County. Washtenaw county is the largest and primarily a floodplain. Washtenaw County's seat is Washtenaw. Alow County's seat is Alow, the national capital, and largest city. Alfredos County's seat is Rio de Sephora.

Culture

Salado's culture derives mostly from Weg latinx people. Cuisine comes from local authentic Mexican restaurants in primarily Mexican neighborhoods in Chicago like Belmont. Don Alfredos in Melrose Park is by far the largest symbol of Salado culture. Art and media are borrowed from nearby Wegmat as they are intertwined. Music listened to in Salado is a mix of Spanish and English music. Media like films however are prominently watched in English. Spanish is the official language of Salado but all human citizens speak English and the majority are bilingual. Monuments in Salado include Salón Público, Plaza Unida, Estatua de la Libertad Indivisible, Rambla Tower and Rancho de Perros Rápidos. Salado has a collection of 5 national parks under the Department of Education: Rio de Perros Rápidos, Roca Corgi, Lanza, Martinex Barranco, and Galería del Belmont.

Economy

Salado's economy is primarily based on commerce. Salado does not tax ships that enter its ports to refuel making Salado a major refueling spot, especially Alow, and Washtenaw. Alow has one of the largest ports in the Des Plaines Valley. Ships dock overnight to recharge while the crew can go into the city to stay in saloons and other hostels.

Agriculture

Salado does not have fertile soil in the south. Past Washtenaw however all avaible soil is dedicated to agricultures. Because of this parks are unexistent in Alow and are replaced by gardens. Salado grows potatos and onions as well as cannabis and hemp.

Assembly

Salado labor is cheaper than unionized and heavily regulated Weg labor. Weimar products are hard to ship to Wegmat making Salado a place for capitalists to create private companies. The largest assembly and manufacturing companies are Noelle & Sarejo and Manejabilidad, both are traded on the Salado Stock Exchange in Alow.

Education

The only University in Salado is Salado National in Alow. Most citizens attend US schools or Weg schools. Salado National University teaches trade jobs related to engineering and agriculture.

Infrastructure

Salados infrastructure relies heavily on the Des Plaines River. The River produces electricity, provides water, provides cheap transit and more. Salado is the only nation in the Des Plaines Valley without a road or cart system. Transport relies on private passenger and freight ships. Alow and Washtenaw have developed ports to support this. North of Alow is a County highway that travels to the Weg border at Port Bodwatmi.
