The Kingdom of All-Saxony, or Saxrike (Sɔxryk in Anglish), began to be organized in 2018 CE (1204 CE in Anglish), beginning as a collection of political writings envisioning not merely a new regime or a national founding, but an entirely new civilizational foundation as a replacement for the failing institutions of Western Civilization. It is conceived of as an imperial absolutist kingdom, with a homogeneous core Kingdom in hegemony over heterogeneous realms held in dominion. While it claims authority over no territories, it has extensive territorial ambitions. It views Western Civilization as being in a state of on-going collapse; a process which is expected to accelerate towards a point of total extinction by 2200 CE (1334 CE in Anglish). It has ambitions to stitch together a vast global empire during this collapse, aspiring to bring together much of North America and Europe, all of Australia and New Zealand; and also South Africa and the Zambezi watershed.

Saxrike is an Anglish-speaking, Folk Asatru state opposed to Liberal philosophies such as democracy, popular sovereignty, secularism, and other institutions of Western Civilization. Saxrike philosophy is influenced by writers such as Oswald Spengler, believing that Western Civilization has reached the end of its lifespan and is doomed to die out due to unavoidable internal contradictions in its worldview. It is believed that to avert a possible Dark Age, a new regime is insufficient; such a regime would only set the timer back by twenty-five to fifty years and still lead to a collapse. Instead, it is asserted that a whole new civilization is needed. Such a civilization would be spearheaded by an entirely novel religious tradition, with Saxrike being the state apparatus thereof. Religious and philosophical ideas central to Saxrike are the perception of life as a game or simulation, the Godhead as a macroscopic gathering of souls in an eternal cycle of reincarnation, the belief in automatons born without souls, the importance of primitivism and simple living, and an honor-vs-corruption morality system distinct from the Abrahamic religious outlook on the world as good-vs-evil.

A speculative map (Saxrike in gold), depicting what future civilizations might consider their spheres of influence to be. (White regions indicate regreening projects.)

Saxrike reads left-to-right, and at present uses a modified Greco-Roman alphabet. Saxrike counts from one to one-dozen, which is a system called dozenal. Its weights and measures system is similar to metric, but in base-12. For temperature, it uses a base-12 modified Rankine scale which is similar to the Fahrenheit in terms of the granularity of degrees.

The start of the year in the Saxrike calendar is reckoned from the northward equinox, which is March 21 on contemporary calendars. It uses the Persian solar calendar instead of the Gregorian Calendar. A lunar month is composed of seven four-day weeks instead of the reverse.

The Saxrike calendar reckons it as being year 11 (0E in Anglish) of the Folk Era; arbitrarily indicating 2012 (11E8 in Anglish) as the final year of the Christian/Western Era. During this time period, the US lost its capacity for orbital spaceflight, unconstitutional systemic domestic spying programs were revealed and went unpunished, riots of the underclass erupted to raze statues and history in a bout of violent iconoclasm, civil wars in the Middle East unleashed massive waves of migrant invaders to Europe, the Greek debt crisis triggered events that would lead to the British departure from the European Union, and a far-left Pope was elected. This period marked a rapid decay in technology, economy, culture, religion, and social unity throughout every region of Western Civilization, each contributing to the eventual ideation of Saxrike.

Etymology and Pan-Germanicism

The nation derives its name from the Anglish word for a state or realm, "ryk" or "rike," and the Saxon demonym describing the northern Germanic tribes who settled from Great Britain to Romania. 'Saxrike' therefore means "Realm of the Saxons," "Kingdom of the Saxons," or "Empire of the Saxons." "Ryk" is cognate with the German word "Reich," giving Österreich (Austria), and definitely no other German countries, its name. The name is a call for unity for not just the Anglo(-Saxon)sphere, but all Germanic countries to rally together as a single Folk. Around >90% of the population of all countries in the territories claimed by Saxrike, with the exception of Germany and Czechia, speak English.

Government

The throne of Saxrike, as well as its boards and the posts of the state temple, are vacant currently, owing to its lack of subjects to govern. This being said, the governmental structure is organized under an institution named the Rikeshelm (Anglish: Rykshɛlm).

The King

The king is at the top of the hierarchy, ruling by decree with supreme executive, judicial, and legislative authority. Executively, he is the supreme commander of all the armed forces of the state, and the law enforcement divisions above the local level (over which he has no direct authority). Legislatively, he confers with the Reeves-Lattew to formulate legal bills and budgets, and exercises veto power over the budgets. Judicially, when conflicts in the interpretation of laws arise and are appealed through the courts, the King makes the final ruling.

In a ceremonial capacity, shitomi-like shutters are used to create space between the king and others; it is the kingly prerogative whether or not to perform any role as head of state. Thus, in a reversal of most monarchies, the king is head of government but delegates the role of head of state. The role of head of state is fulfilled by the High Gothar or other ceremonial officials.

Succession law is an ultimogeniture system, with the youngest sired son being the heir apparent called the "atheling scion" (Anglish: Ɔþɛliŋ syan). In the absence of sons-with-children, a grandson-with-a-child through a daughter or a nephew-with-a-child through a living sibling can inherit. Failing that, the oldest unsired son or grandson is the atheling. If there is still no heir, then siblings may inherit in order from youngest to oldest.

Nobility & Family

Though there is a ruling dynastic house, there is no nobility in Saxrike outside of continuity. That is, only the king and his possible heirs are imbued with the divine right to rule. The reigning king, all his children, his grandsons, and his siblings and nephews are part of the Royal family. After an Atheling accedes to become king (and has a son of his own), his cousins and grand-nephews become disinherited and choose a new surname (often a mother's maiden name). The king's extended family, once they pass beyond continuity, are civilians with no special privileges or income.

Since female accession is not allowed, the king's spouses are simply called queens; there is never a need for titles such as consort, or euphemisms such as prince for male-consorts. A king is expected to take at least three spouses from the highest natal caste. The king's mother is the "queen-mother" and, in rare cases of abdication, there can be a "king-father."

Divine Right

With the throne currently vacant, a king may only be coronated by a Gothar of the state temple before a willing congregation on independent Saxon soil recognized, de jure, by at least one legitimate state. The crowning of the king is therefore the ethnogenesis of the pan-Germanic ethnicity, the founding of the kingdom, the founding of the state religion, and the beginning of the new Saxon era of civilization. The post of king is regarded as too sacred to be used pretentiously, and therefore must be achieved at the confluence of religion, sovereignty, and the folkdom, when the Gods will it to happen. Only direct intervention from the Gods could make such a thing happen, so when it does, it was indisputably the will of the Gods that it did. The king will then set about making known the will of the Gods to the rest of the world.

The Temple and Holyboard

Saxrike has an official religion, and belonging to it is required to get married, purchase land or property within the country, or participate within a Thing. However, the religion is not strictly controlled by a central hierarchy and authority. To become ordained as a Gothar, one must only affirm the sacred texts approved of by the King, and be acknowledged by another ordained Gothar in an ordained temple.

Within the Rikeshelm, the Holyboard manages socialized funding (about 1% GDL total) for ordained temples and preparation for rites and holidays, including personal rites such as weddings. This power of the purse enables the Holyboard to take limited punitive action against wayward temples by reducing or totally withholding funding. This creates a soft power dynamic between the Holyboard and the autonomous ordained temples.

The head of the Holyboard is the High Gothar, who is chosen by the ordained temples. Temples receive six votes each, and between one and twelve additional votes based on congregation size. This limits the influence of very large congregations, and gives small congregations skewed voting power. While voting is done, by default, at the sole discretion of the Head Gothar of an ordained temple, it may be done instead by its congregations according to the bylaws decided by any given temple. A High Gothar leads the Temple for four years, and is limited to three consecutive terms. He is free to appoint and dismiss his own administration, and has the power of the bully pulpit, with a direct line to every congregation in the nation. So, while his direct powers are limited, the High Gothar has a lot of influence to act as a soft check on the King.

Reeves

The king is assisted by three Reeves-Lattew (Singular: Reef-Lattew) who sit in on the Lawshall with local representatives and experts helping to formulate law and gather facts for the Rikeshelm. "Reef" is the root of the English word "Sheriff" and Reef-Lattew roughly means "General of the Sheriffs" or in other words "General of the executive branch." Each Reef-Lattew is responsible for one-third of the budget for each of the three years he is tenured (with one elder Reef retiring and one younger Reef being appointed per year). Each submits their budget to the King, who vetoes items from the budget. The value of items vetoed returns to the Reeves-Lattew for a shared responsibility re-budgeting, while those passed become law and are enacted by the Allotment Board. Reeves are appointed by the king from among the Folk representatives of the Lawshall, typically appointing the incoming Reef from the plurality coalition.

The Reeves-Lattew, in addition to their powers over the purse and organizing of the Lawshall, also are vital for ceremonial head-of-state tasks such as receiving foreign dignitaries and declining gifts (declined, because not even tokens are permitted to be given to the king, his Reeves, or any member of the Lawshall).

Reeves lower on the command structure are law enforcement at the watershed, national, and imperial level, though local militias are typically the enforcers at the local level.

Lawshall and Representation

The Lawshall is composed of local leaders from each watershed. Every year, a caucus called the Folk Thing is amassed. For every 144 sired men of the folkdom with a primary residence within the watershed, a Champion is chosen. Each Champion carries an authenticated token of their number of supporters and advances through the rounds of the caucus speaking and collecting more backers, or else giving their supporter names to another Champion's token. A Champion who gets the backing of the equivalent of 144 other Champions represents 20,736 families of their watershed and becomes a folk representative. Additional names past the threshold must then be granted to another Champion. These folk representatives then move to the seat of their watershed and form the basis for local, kingdom, and imperial law. They are assisted by lawspeakers and other staff hired directly by the watershed's Rikeshelm office. For every 1,000,000 families in the Kingdom, there are around 50 representatives (48 from the folkdom, and 2 appointed experts). Unmarried people are nominally unrepresented, though most of their interests are identical to those who are represented.

Judicial Branch and Criminal Justice

Initially, for the sake of expediency, Saxrike will use a common law system, with traditional magistrates appointed by the executive and tested by their peerage in establishing case law; as adversarial prosecutors and defenders try cases. Incarceration is deemed to be a form of torture, and dishonorable. As such, long-term incarceration is not a possible outcome in criminal justice. Instead, those deemed to be criminals deserving of punishments beyond fines or ritual humiliations (like public caning or stockades), are either sentenced to draft-service in the military, exile, or death depending on the severity of the crime. Exile, also known as Outlaw (autlψ), is by far more common than capital punishment, and bolsters the armies of Maykings. An Outlaw is not protected from killing by the law, which then forms the basis for induction into military bodies as a protection against vendetta by aggrieved parties wronged by the Outlaw.

The legal code going forward will be new, as distinct from Anglo-Saxon common law, Romano-Napoleonic civil law, or Muslim Iqta. Though it is new, it will be an evolution of Saxon common law, and can therefore be considered to common law what Napoleonic law is to civil law. The central thinking behind the legal code centers on whether a person is wanted by society or not. Long term imprisonment is by its nature an exclusionary act and rejection of a person from society. Therefore, that person might as well be exiled. If a person is still wanted in society, then punishments of pain, lowered status, and humiliation are preferable to punishments which take away one's life either through imprisonment or death.

In criminal cases, as an example, a person might be detained, summoned or bonded to appear in court (by oath on their name), and then receive a mandatory speedy trial within 6 months for most crimes, or within 12 months for capital crimes. The accused would be randomly appointed a defender automatically, be allowed to change their defender once from a roster of possible choices, and be able to change their defender once more after a period of 3 months. The defender and prosecution would have a preliminary bench trial with the accused in absentia, the prosecution would then offer any plea deals to the accused via their defender, and then go to a full trial if no deal was reached.

The state must take on the entire cost of the process, as well as the defense whether guilty or not, and if the court cannot deliver a speedy trial then it must drop cases because the government is clearly prosecuting too many crimes. It is also asserted that it is not the role of the legal code to adapt to the changes of popular values or to protect people with enforcement of their personal interactions. Jurors are required to be paid a living wage, and cannot be dismissed by employers for performing jury duty. Only males who can vote are summoned for jury duty.

Timekeeping

Saxrike does not use the Gregorian calendar common throughout the rest of the world. The start of the year is on the first day of Spring in the northern hemisphere: the northward equinox, which is usually March 21 on contemporary calendars. Instead, Saxrike uses the ancient solar calendar of the Indo-Aryans.

A lunar month is composed of seven four-day weeks instead of the reverse. The weeks are divided into "odds" and "evens." The four days of an oddweek are Rigsday, Wothinnsday, Wellsday, and Wixday. The four days of an evenweek are Tyrsday, Baldursday, Thorsday, and Frijasday. A lunar month is 29.5306 days long, so after each seventh week has ended, 28 days have passed. Thus, an Ingsday is added to make the total 29. On even numbered months, a Njaurthsday is also added to account for the accumulation of half days each lunar month. Once every 2.75 years there is a Seithrsday accounting for the .03 days per lunar month. And around once every one hundred and thirty nine years, there is a full Nornsweek of four extra days to account for the .0006 day accumulation. The first Rigsday of a lunar month is always the new moon. The full moon falls around the second Wixday of the lunar month.

The solar year is divided into twelve months. The first six months are 31 days long. These are: Ekauth; Happauth; Ondauth; Midsummer; Likauth; and Hamrauth. The next five months are 30 days: Warding; Nerthauth; Thrilauth; Jule; Ulthauth. The final month has 29 days on non-leap years and is called Hjurauth. On years with a leap-day, it has 30 or 31 days. The Aryan calendar is observation-based, but rules are used to help schedule leap years. At its simplest, the leap year rule is to have a leap day added once every 5th year, with another leap day added every 25th year. Around once every 450 years, another leap-day is added to whatever month and year the closest Nornsday occurs in. Astronomical observations for the Folk Era calendar are made on Ascension Island, (assuming that said island is owned by Saxrike).

Subdivisions

Subdivisions in Saxrike are determined by the boundaries of river basins, forming natural and organic borders. Each subdivision is fittingly called a watershed (Anglish: Watrƪɛd). On coastal regions, where river basins are much smaller, a watershed must cover an area of at least 10,368 square miles (6000 in Anglish) and have a sea frontage of 96 miles (80 in Anglish). Neighboring watersheds are iteratively merged until reaching the required minimum size. These watersheds are roughly the equivalent of provinces for the administration and local government.

Though Saxrike holds or occupies no territory, it has open ambitions on forty-six such watersheds in the world, covering 12.49 million square miles, making it one of the largest micronational claims by real-world land area. This is due to its hard secessionist stance, intending to secede and eventually seize control of the former United States of America, before pressing its remaining claims. Unlike most micronations, it holds a sincere belief in eventual independence and its long-term geopolitical strategy. The watersheds of its claims cover the Germanic cluster, the core Anglosphere (except for Ireland), and South Africa, The Orange watershed, and the Zambezi watershed.

The forty-three watersheds that exclude the three in Southern Africa, ringing in at 10.73 million square miles, would comprise the largest kingdom in history, if it were to be achieved. This is as distinct from an empire, composed of multiple people-groups, with Saxrike asserting that all Germanic cluster peoples are one single Folk. These would make up the core territory of Saxrike, and hegemon of the slightly wider empire. If its Southern African imperial claims were to be realized, Saxrike would be the 6th largest empire in history, with the full 12.5 million square miles of its claims.

Europe
An obsolete map from Saxrike's early development once included all of Europe in a single empire, before narrowing its scope to pan-Germanicism.

In Europe (Anglish: Þule), its core territorial ambitions are for:

  • Anglund (Eŋlʉnd) on the island of Great Britain
  • Danelund (Denlʉnd) in Scandinavia
  • Iceland (Yslɔnd)
  • Rhinelund (Rynlʉnd) on the Rhine
  • Elbalund (Σlbʉlʉnd) on the Elbe.

These territories are similar to the North Sea Empire held by Knut the Great at the turn of the last millennium; circa 1016 CE.

America
The North American watersheds encompass multiple cultures from three legacy states.

In America, its territorial ambitions are for all of Contemporary America and Canada, plus portions of Northern Mexico around the Rio Grande and Colorado rivers. The watersheds mostly have names after the Germanic individuals who pioneered or conquered them.

In the Southeast:

On the Eastern Seaboard:

Oceania
Regreening deserts such as those in Australia (shown above in white) is a major prestige goal of Saxryk.

In Oceania (Miri), it has ambitions for both Australia (Gret Sʉðrʉni) and New Zealand (Nu Zilʉnd):

Dominions Elsewhere

In Africa, it has imperialistic desires on:

  • Orangelund (Orɛnζlʉnd) on the Orange
  • Rhodeslund (Rodzlʉnd) on the Zambezi

Note: both of these shires split between them the remainder of the southern African countries of South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Collapse and Geopolitical Strategy

Social Chaos
The report Limits to Growth predicted a mass die off beginning around 2050.

Saxrike's architects presume the end of Western Civilization is already underway. Though Spengler predicted a slow decline into caesarism from 2000 to 2200, Saxrike thinkers see reason to predict a much more rapid onset of collapse, such as The Limits to Growth. The 1972 report projects the deaths of around 1.65 billion people beginning in 2050 due to resource shortages. Additionally, with advancing technology, social change moves at a faster pace than previous centuries, and the world is witnessing both ecological collapse and a descent into chain-reaction inflation. It is believed that this will lead to sweeping social chaos long before 2050, expressed as caesarism and civil wars as predicted in Decline of the West. Saxrike planners intend to exploit the poverty and an anticipated civil war in the United States to achieve independence for Saxrike's first territories, or even seize control of America outright.

Even if it succeeds in doing so, however, it will be faced with the same permanent resource shortfalls of the previous regime, as well as the underlying metaphysical sickness that caused Western Civilization to begin to collapse in the first place. The answer to this is proposed as two-fold. First: extreme Spartan austerity. Living simply will by this point be simple necessity, but it is intended that all subjects of Saxrike will adopt a philosophical and religious outlook on the importance of living simply. Moving to a lower energy state permanently, however, would be disastrous on the civilizational level. Secondly, therefor, is the planned use of LIFT nuclear reactors employed en masse to provide enough raw power to begin moving the young civilization to a higher energy state. Raw nuclear electricity will allow the brute force creation of farming inputs to continue the life-sustaining agriculture from the world's most productive bread basket: the Mississippi watershed.

From there, it is believed, Saxrike will command a powerful position in geopolitics; having access to cheap and abundant food in a world descending towards mass famine. It will exploit this strategic advantage in any number of ways, using any means necessary to unite the Saxons of the world under one banner. Any countries of non-Saxon peoples that fall under Saxrike control will become Commonwealth Realms and their populations will be moved by jet airliners and resettled into high density megacities. There, they will be provided with food, safe water, and healthcare; but put on a strict one-child-policy in order to provide long-term alleviation of resource short falls before the projected die off of 2050. Meanwhile, with populations moved away, restorative efforts will likewise begin in the agricultural systems, deserts, and threatened wild places of these countries.

Restorationism

An ongoing agenda of Saxrike is to be ecological restoration. A major prestige project is to regreen the world's deserts by rerouting northern rivers southwards, such as from Alaska to the American Southwest. This will be done to increase rainfall and the carrying capacity of lands, and begin to reverse the collapse of insect, bird, and fish populations throughout the world. Regreened deserts will be special protectorates and function as their own autonomous governments, funding themselves through the ecological curation of the territories they control.

It intends to use its control of the world's most productive bread basket in order to strongarm the nations of the world into a binding treaty for the collectivization of the world's fishing fleets, and a steady drawing down of world fish harvesting over a period of 25 years. Profits from the industry will exclusively fund mega-engineering to improve the carrying capacity of the world's oceans with mangroves, coral reefs, and just brute-force adding of oxygen and light using nuclear power and other forms of energy.

Cars and suburbs will be done away with for hundreds of millions of people, curbing the practice of asphalt paving and lawn keeping to help restore biodiversity throughout its territories.

Politics

Regime Stances

Saxrike is strongly anti-capitalist, anti-communist, and anti-liberal, including libertarianism and adjacent ideologies. It is strongly against liberal institutions like police and prisons that oppress the common man. It is isolationist, eschewing diplomacy; and foregoes trade to a great extent, favoring autarky instead. It is "technoprimitivist," described as high tech at the state level and low tech at the individual level. The nation both uses and develops advanced technology at the state level (for example, the military and biotech) to defend the interests of the Folkdom. Settlements and homes, however, are dispersed, small, ecologically sustainable, and absent of many expressions of technology such as automobiles, computers, and other "socially degrading" conveniences.

Broadly, it is authoritarian, traditionalist, exclusive to outsiders, roughly socialist-market, extremely mobilized (nearly all men are in a militia), and yet leans anti-interventionist.

More specifically, it bans contraceptives and the killing of the unborn except for fetuses with congenital defects, mandates a living wage for workers, has mandatory weapon ownership for all sound-minded men, systematically prevents a wealth divide through a 100% death tax to prevent intergenerational millionaires, outlaws homosexuality, ensures healthcare for all workers and their families, has strict limitations on women in the workforce, earmarks extensive funding for restoring ecologies at land and at sea, mandates natal quotas for those who want to marry, aspires to provide preventative organ transplants from cloned tissue to greatly extend lifespans, and outlaws adultery (for example, pre-marital sex).

Controlled Substances

Most recreational drugs are prohibited. While alcohol is legal, and tobacco is legal for personal use, cannabis and other brain damaging recreational drugs are illegal. Heroin and 'hard drugs' which do not damage the brain but correlate with severe negative life outcomes are illegal. Soy is banned for human applications. Vegetable oils are banned for human consumption.

Pharmaceutical facilities are permitted only to produce a narrow range of 2000 essential drugs for the medical industry, much fewer than most countries. There is no research & development for new pharmaceutical drugs or injections in Saxrike. A range of steroidal and hormone treatments are available from a doctor, but sexual hormones are restricted to matching the birth sex of the recipient.

Castes & Eugenics

All folk under the jurisdiction of the Rikeshelm are assigned a natal caste for the purposes of eugenics and controlling population growth. Factors such as outward appearance like hair, eye, and skin color are used for gross sorting into broad categories of ethnic purity. However, physical hereditary health and neurological fitness determine final placement in the hierarchy. Factors from the acuity of senses after puberty (sight, hearing, and smell), absence of hereditary disease markers, and IQ all determine the final caste of a child as judged after puberty. As such, the castes are not a calcifying and static categorization of society as in Hindu castes. On the contrary, castes are a major way to achieve social mobility since it is not directly tied to the station of parents and marrying well can advance the place of one's children.

The castes at present are Lowborn, Commoncaste, Bronzecaste, Coppercaste, Ironblood, Steelcaste, Highborn, and Glorycaste. Lowborns are limited to one child per woman, Commoncastes have two child per woman, Bronzecastes have three, Coppers have four, Irons have six, Steels have eight, and Highborns have twelve or more. These numbers are aimed at aggressive population growth early on, but by adjusting these numbers, the state is able to control its population growth. Eventually Saxrike will slow to a steady-state population at the recommended carrying capacity of each of its watersheds.

Social mobility comes from two factors: first, subsidies; and second, hypergamy/polygyny. Every newlywed couple is eligible for a subsidy loan, which is forgiven after having the target number of children. This helps to purchase the family home for the couple, and the size of the loan is scaled to the expected size of the family. Therefore, a Lowborn family with an expected size of 3 has 100% of their loan forgiven after the birth of their child, but the size of the loan is for the size of a 3-person home. In modern American terms this might be a $70,000 home, whereas an Ironblood family might have a $500,000 home with their loan forgiven in 1/6th increments for each of their six children. Note that homes will be far cheaper in Saxrike than in America, but this is illustrative of the difference in the head start given to each family based on hierarchy. For Hypergamy, women are able to marry one caste above their own, giving them access to the resources of a higher caste than their own and give their children a better chance of placing higher in the caste spectrum. For Polygyny, men are able to marry more than one woman, allowing them to be the head of multiple estates tied to each of their spouses.

Technology

Though technology is strictly limited for personal use, it is not unknown. Settlements are electrified, and make use of refrigeration, artificial lighting, central heat, tankless water heaters, and running water. All men are armed with modern firearms and ammunition. Public buildings that serve as gathering places for recreation, such as culture clubs and militia lodges, are permitted to use air conditioning. This is so that aircon promotes social integration rather than atomization and a retreat of people to the isolation of their homes. Technology is focused mainly in dispersed industrial parks, to which workers commute with their families via train for shifts of typically around two weeks, before returning home for two weeks of leisure. Commoners are not left exclusively to their own devices, however, but are required to be members of at least three clubs each, of their choosing. A club of the body (physical challenges and sports), a club of the mind (intellectual hobbies and foreign languages), and a club of the spirit (religious activities and mysticism). These clubs allow the Folk to explore the passions of their choosing, and produce mass entertainment such as music, stories, and so on.

Future Tech

Saxrike seeks several near future technologies that have not yet been developed. These are technologies believed to be currently viable, and will be a priority for development as Saxrike becomes independent.

From easiest to hardest:

  1. LIFT reactor infrastructure - safe, sustainable nuclear power.
  2. Powered Armor - personal ceramo-polymer armored exoskeletons rated to stop up to 20mm rounds.
  3. Cloned Organs - advanced biotech to produce human blood and organs to greatly extend human lifespans.
  4. Orbital Asteroid Mining - capturing asteroids with moon encounters and mining them.
  5. Automated Industry - hard to judge how close or far this technology is.
  6. Plekhaulers - Self-replicating machines. 3D printers that can produce 100% of their parts and make their own printing media from raw materials.

Education

Compulsory state education is limited to learning literacy, arithmetic, and multiplication tables. The schooling lasts from ages 6–8, taking three years. Outside of compulsory schooling, there is military education for boys, and homemaking education for girls. Later on, at 13, children can choose to attend vocational school. Vocational school is one year of maths, followed by two years of training, and then enrollment in a trade at 16. Boys with a high IQ are selected to attend university for STEM training. All education, provided a student qualifies for it, is an entitlement right provided at no cost.

Economy

Monetary System

Saxrike uses a set of sectoral currencies in order to stop inflation caused by the extreme resource shortages. These are the Gold Kilter, for post-scarce goods like food and rent; the Blue Kilter, for professional services like healthcare; the Orange Kilter, for scarce building materials like lumber and steel; and the Violet Kilter, for scarce luxuries and imports. The exchange rate between sectors is determined by the supply and demand of the market, but is influenced strongly by the rates at which they are issued by the Kilterboard. The effect will be to keep the cost of food and housing and healthcare low when the cost of luxuries and scarce materials are high, and to prevent spikes in demand for one sector of goods from causing as much inflation in the others.

As an illustration, let us suppose a watershed in Saxrike produces annually a sustainable rate of 50 billion person-days of calories. Let us say that only 10% of that or 5 billion person-days of calories actually reach the Folk (due livestock consumption, trade, sugar production, and industrial uses to create a more diverse and palatable diet), and as such the watershed is rated for a carrying capacity of 13.7 million Folk. At a rate of 10 gold kilter (g₭) per person per day, over the course of a year, this gives a figure of 13,700,000 * 10 * 365.25 = 50 billion g₭. The watershed's Kilterboard therefore issues 50 billion plus 10% or 55b g₭ over the course of the year. However, in order to create demand for the banknotes, there must be a demand cycle to redeem and destroy the same number of banknotes per year. One method, and the most familiar, is to have taxation to have money come back into the hands of the government to be destroyed and reissued, but Saxrike does not rely on income taxation to drive its demand cycle due to harmful side-effects. Instead, Saxrike gold kilter lose a percentage of their face value each month. In the same way food rots if it is not eaten, money can be made to "rot" when it is not spent. If a note loses 12/144ths of its value for each of the 12 months, this achieves the desired result of a stable money supply with constant demand. You have a functioning medium of exchange, which is the biggest problem that money solves, but what you do not have is a medium of stored value. In reality, all three methods are used to various extents on the four different banknote types to satisfy the demand cycle for each of them within the economy. Gold kilter devaluate automatically and are redeemed for other kilter types to drive their demand. Demand for blue kilter is driven by market exchange and mandates for health insurance. Demand for orange kilter and violet kilter is inherent to the demand the market has for building supplies and luxuries, respectively, and is used to drive demand for other kilter types. Both of these latter types (o₭ and v₭) are additionally subject to the Value Added Tax, which both helps to regulate the demand cycles and passively redistributes wealth.

The colors: gold, blue, orange, and violet are meant to be easily discernable to the widest range of people with normal color vision and two of the most common forms of color blindness.

Kilter come in denominations of 1, 3, 10, 30, and 100, (which translates to 1, 3, 12, 36, and 144 in primitive base-10 monkey numbers).

Jobs

Jobs will be organized by a Rikeshelm board (ministry) where firms will bid on labor-hours at auction in competition with each other, driving up the price of labor to ensure the highest wages for a given job. From a worker's point of view, their labor will be pooled as a commodity instrument with the labor of other workers, with whom he will be in competition for shares based on skill, seniority, productivity and negotiation. Each job will have a minimum wage, so to speak, according to local cost of living. This means that no one who works will have an undignified existence, but also means that jobs that aren't worth a living wage within these constraints will not be paid for and thus will not be performed, resulting in fewer business models providing conveniences such as fast food and lawn care.

As such, an extremely large economic contraction is expected. 84.5% of labor-hours in the contemporary United States are at risk for elimination. Working hours will be cut in half to a 20-hour average per week, and women will be withdrawn from the workforce in order to match labor hours to the industrial contraction and keep the cost of labor high. While convenience and services-per-capita will drastically decrease, quality of life and worker income will sharply rise. The sectors remaining are to be those of Mining & Refining, Farming, Construction, Manufacturing, Teamstering (transportation of materials and workers), and services such as Education, Healthcare, Military, Food Preparation, and Distribution of Goods. Not much trade is expected to be possible during the interim period between civilizations, but trade will be focused on energy and food exports for rare materials and luxury & consumer goods.

Finance

Fractional reserve lending, and many practices of the capitalist banking industry are forbidden by law. The government finances itself directly with a flat labor tax on all males within its territories, establishing a debt cycle between government and laborer as money is paid and then redeemed. The benefit of this is that the government does not take on debt to operate, and can maintain full employment at all times without financial difficulty. With constant levels of full employment only previously possible in wartime, the regime will be free to take on a constant series of megaprojects.

Capitalism is systematically restricted, but not entirely absent. Mechanisms for price signals and supply and demand are indispensable even for the limited form of industrialization in the nation. Firms and individuals bid against each other in the labor market, the resource market, and to perform at higher qualities for the firms that contract their work. This allows the government to centrally control resources and the economy while still having market signals, a profit motive and private wealth accumulation.

Wealth, Taxes, and the Welfare State

Saxrike maintains no income tax whatever, instead using a VAT system with a rebate, so those who contribute to the efficiency of the market can become very wealthy very quickly. Instead, when they die, most of their surplus wealth is taxed at a rate of 100%, leaving their sons and spouses only a modest inheritance. The remainder of an estate is liquidated and paid into a UBI fund and distributed equally to every male Saxon with at least one child. This money is then spent and re-enters the economy, and accumulates in the pockets of a newly successful firm owner.

Death/Estate taxes are held in trust by the government and pay out directly to adult men every month. This forms the basis for the UBI that makes up the welfare state, replacing archaic systems such as social security, food stamps, unemployment insurance, and so on. This reduces the size of government by reducing the unpleasant apparatus of tax enforcement and bureaucracy, while still ensuring that every man has some level of income to meet their basic needs. Nevertheless, as only men receive the income, it is possible for widows, divorcees, and other second hand women to be left out of the welfare state if they do not maintain the relationships of their safety net (for example with their sons). This is the fail state for women, similar to the fail states of men (such as homelessness and drug addiction) and a necessary disincentive to motivate virtuous female behavior. However, being that the worst depredations of inequity are socially corrosive, such women are not left to fend for themselves but are provided with the option of working in nunneries for the Holyboard for their room and board.

With Death/Estate taxes being untouched by government, VAT is left as the only form of taxation that allows the government to regulate the currency. Money taken in by VAT is destroyed, and new VAT is reissued in parity to how much wealth was estimated to have been created the previous year. The estimate of wealth created is a function of the VAT itself, as everyone adding value to materials is incentivized to report their creation of value in order to get the VAT rebate. Consumable goods like food, are largely not taxed by VAT, and thus the share of the wealth created in the previous year but eaten or otherwise used up is, conveniently, not factored into the VAT's estimation of the nation's gross value created. In this way, the taxation system avoids inflation, allows the government to spend what it needs, allows the government to maintain full employment, and allows the government to never have to borrow money or pay interest.

Culture

Symbols

The flag of Saxrike is a black field representing militancy and death emblazoned with a golden wheat head bearing an Algiz life rune representing life, wealth, and prosperity. This wheat head is surrounded by a laurel wreath shaped gear representing military victory through technology (technology being largely restricted to military use).

The national trees are the Ash and Elm. In the home of newlyweds, cuttings of the man's family Ash tree are planted in the yard, while cuttings of the bride's family Elm is likewise planted. The cuttings are thinned in succeeding years, until one of each remain. From these trees, the couple's children will then take their own cuttings one day. When loved ones die and are cremated, their ashes are mixed with water and poured onto the base of the tree.

The national animal is the Sea Wolf, the apex predator of the oceans, also known for their families and intelligence. Like Humans, they are found globally. From militancy, to tribalism, to migrations and global reach, the Killer Whale represents nearly all the ideals of Saxrike.

The national bird is the Corvinae family, the symbol of Odin and tricksters renknowned for their cleverness. Some magpies even bear the national colors.

Writing
The phoneme chart for the Anglish language.

The Saxryk alphabet is comprised of thirty-six letters instead of the twenty-six is a Latin script. Twelve are vowels: a as in 'father,' ɔ as in 'cat,' ψ as in 'dog,' ʉ as in 'ulcer,' y as in 'byte,' ɛ as in 'pet,' e as in 'hey,' ɪ as in 'fill,' i as in 'ki,' o as in 'go,' ʊ as in 'book,' and u as in 'sue.' Two more vowel sounds (ou as in 'out,' and oi as in 'mah boi') are diphthongs without their own letters.

The letter R still performs its triple function as rhotic, non-rhotic, and vowel-bridging with just one letter, as it does in English.

The letter C is largely replaced with the letter K in a departure from Old English, with the letter C being relegated to the CH digraph ('chair' becoming 'cer'). F entirely replaces PH. TH is split into the thorn and the eth as in 'thimble' and 'father,' respectively. NG as in 'thing' gets its own letter, ŋ. SH (and the TI in '-tion') gets represented with the letter ƪ. Many digraphs in English are used in loanwords from other languages, which do not exist in Anglish, using native neologisms instead (such as 'rainshade' over 'umbrella'). In the cases of other digraphs such as WH, SC, and QU, they are anglicized to phonetic spellings, beginning with the root word.

Finally, for consonants, G is always pronounced as it is in 'girl,' and J is always pronounced as it is in 'jaeger,' which is to say it is pronounced like the Y in 'yard.' And the JH sound as in 'joy' is represented with the new consonant ζ, while the ZH sound of 'pleasure' is represented with the only non-vowel digraph in the language, ZJ.

For the most part, there are no vowel misspellings in Saxon Anglish, provided that the correct letters for a pronunciation are used. Two different accents may use different vowels for the same words, depending on local pronunciation, both of them being valid.

Eventually, a runic script will be developed by the Academy of Anglish (Hyspyr ʉv Eŋlɪƪ in Anglish) will replace the Greco-Latin script, but Greco-Latin is used for convenience and expediency at the present time.

Military

Armed Forces

There are three "Erstboughs" of the armed forces: the Landwarders (Army), the Fleet (Navy), and the Starthrake (Starfleet). These are supported by two "Fireboughs": a Flightthrake (Airforce) and the Vikings (Elite Corps) which maintain fighting formations in all three of the Erstboughs. Following these, there are war lodges (militias), of which nearly every male of 16 years and older is a member. War lodges form local garrisons, local law enforcement, and reserve forces. For border patrol, interdiction, and policing of international waters, there are the Hemwarders (Border Patrol/Coast Guard) - the Homebough.

Maykings and Exile Armies

Every year, those opposed to the ruling regime will compete in a series of blood sports and small scale proving wars aimed at bringing out the best leaders of the opposition. Along with similar but safer bloodsports, this "Mayking Lark" will form the basis for the national sport. The Mayking Lark will eliminate as casualties or deaths around 1/12th of participants, but with the 11/12ths swearing fealty to the "Mayking" who is the most charismatic and capable opposition leader for that year.

The Mayking and his army will be armed and trained, and then lead an attack of conquest on a failed state somewhere in the world, becoming either an independent realm or a commonwealth realm and forming the main mechanism of militaristic expansion for the empire. There are many reasons for both parties, despite being opposed, to participate. For the ruling regime, the benefits are obvious: purge the discontent consensually, avoid expensive and immoral prison systems, and gain territories passively without committing to risky and expensive wars. For the discontent, it offers rapid social mobility to the disenfranchised, and a pathway to political power for their ideas or their faith; as well as being a path to simple riches and far safer than risking armed conflict with the regime directly.

A victorious Mayking who conquers a territory becomes an actual King, and wins the opportunity at marriage to an Imperial Princess in order to seed the new realm with a nobility and secure an alliance with the young state.

It is not impossible that this violent military tradition could also manifest as peaceful and constructive. Maykings could potentially draw large numbers of investors for great projects (for example, sea-steading) or simply join another country more similar to the Mayking's ideology or religion. As the world stabilizes and fewer failed states abound, or states adapt to a reality where roving warbands could show up on their shores at any time, peaceful Mayking Warbands are apt to become more common. This being because trade, building, and cooperation will simply be a safer route to a life worth having than violence.

The Mayking Lark emulates the Migration Period and subsequent Viking Age of Saxon history which saw Germanics conquer and settle much of the known world, discover new lands, or forge new trade routes and new institutions that shaped world history, such as the Varangian Guard.

Citizenship

The Kingdom does not have citizens, but instead has "Folk." In order to affirm their status as one of the folk, a Saxon must swear an oath of fealty to the Saxon cause of a pan-Germanic kingdom and a struggle against the globalist regimes opposing reunification. This is very similar to the status of citizenship in other nations, with a few important differences. The oath affirms that a person is:

  • Ethnically Saxon (Anglo-Saxon, German, Dutch, Frisian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic, Swiss, Austrian, Luxembourger, Liechtensteiner, Faroese or Boer, etc.)
  • Faithful to the Old Gods and willing to build the Saxrike faith.
  • Willing to learn the Anglish tongue, and teach it to their children.
  • Willing to struggle against the dying Christian Civilization for the creation of a New Saxon Civilization.
