The Serene Kingdom of Salem is a micronation located in the U.S state of Virginia, which was founded on 31 December 2020.
Etymology
The name Salem comes from שָׁלוֹם (Salam), the Hebrew word for peace
History
On the night of 31 December 2020, Salem was founded originally as the Kingdom of Salem. The first King was King Kismet I of Salem. On 4 March 2021, an alliance was formed with the Kingdom of Suttornland, and on 25 March 2021 the treaty of MUNA was drafted. Work continued for many days before the signing on 13 April. Salem went mostly inactive in that time besides a flag change. Some time later at an unknown time Salem had joined 2 alliances called The Nations Council, and a sub branch of it called MSAO. On 6 April 2022, Salem joined the the Korisburg Pact, a defensive pact, that later fell apart. On 6 September 2022, Salem joined the NMA (now the MPA). Deputy Prime Minister CD founded the Microzone the same day.
Socaland
On 8 February 2022, Salem signed an agreement that made it a vassal of The Republic of Socaland. the treaty was supposed to run out after 2 months (8 April), although due to Socaland recognizing Czechoslovakia, which violated The Erkennung Convention that Salem had made, Salem chose to not recognize Czechoslovakia, Socaland overrid the decision and, As a result, Salem declared full independence on 18 February 2022. On 15 April 2022, Socaland reestablished relations with the IKS.

The Almendria crisis
On 20 March 2022, Salem's Prime Minister reported a dm (direct message) from the Almendrian leader, Tizian. Almendria claims to be a communist republic, but it acts closer to a fascist one. There was evidence that Tizan had hacked and even doxxed people, causing Salem for the first time in its history to be on high alert, deploying its intelligence branch called R.I.D.S.
The Second Almendria crisis
After a joke from the Almendrian leader Tizan, Salem and several other nations including Golden hill, and K&J broke relations with Almendria, with G.H and K&J declaring independence form Almendria. This was after Desslok, the leader of The Nexan Republic; was accused of pedophilia. But soon after evidence emerged that Desslok was not as old as Tizan claimed that Desslok was, causing Salem to side with Desslok and shut down its discord server to avoid the raiding of the server by Tizan. The crisis has since calmed down.
Vislan
On July 21, 2022, Salem held a referendum on the issue of full independence from Vislan. It got a hundred percent within everyone who voted in parliament, and got 3:1 ratio in the public. Vislan although reluctantly, agreed to negotiate about Salem's independence. After some bickering with Prime Minister Emi of Vislan, they agreed that on August 18, 2022 Salem would adopt a new constitution and independence from Vislan would go in effect, and on August 20, 2022, Salem adopted a new flag.
The Socaland Incident
On August 15, F.C. Zane (Leader of Socaland), decided to imprison several Salemnese citizens in Socaland since he was suspicious of them being Almendrian spies. One of the imprisoned was the Deputy Prime Minister himself. On August 28, 2022, the DPM passed a bill severing Socaland-Salem relations.
Resignation of the 1st Prime minister
On September 16, 2022 Prime Minister Charli (often known as Ghost_ online) resigned as prime minister of Salem. Her reasons were sited as it brought her more stress then what she thought was worth.
2nd General election
After the resignation of P.M. Charli, Salem held an election on September 23, 2022, the candidates were Jaiden, CD, Moomin/Ran, Doc54, Sir Victus, and Delta. CD ended up winning with a 46% majority. Jaiden was in 2nd place so she was placed as the Deputy Prime Minister. CD was sworn in that day.
Accusations of cheating
Jaiden was accused of cheating during the 2nd general election. Nothing came of it.
The Jaiden Incident
Deputy Prime Minister Jaiden resigned only two days after her term started due to the fact that a pro-life person joined. A day or two later, she came back to Salem, and there became two deputy prime ministers.
CD Incident
On 3 October 2022, prime minister CD left the Micronational community after president Ran DB of the Republic of Besonia, Vice President of the MPA, gave a final warning to CD after he abused admin powers in the MPA server, put joke confessions in the vent channel of the server, which was meant for more serious topics and confessions, and things of the nature. This was the final nail in the coffin for CD, as he had been thinking of quitting the community for a while. Ran’s warning to him was the last straw for him, and he left the MPA server, the Salem server, and any other micronation related servers he was in. 1 day later, he joined back to these servers (except for the MPA server as he had quit being a representative of Salem in the MPA,) and became prime minister again. However, former PM Charli had already appointed another prime minister, known as delta, and when CD came back, there became 2 prime ministers of Salem.
Federation of Salem-Miraguay
The Federation of Salem-Miraguay was an unofficial, but planned, union between the micronations Salem and Republic of Miraguay. The idea of combining the two micronations came after deputy-prime minister CD proposed to president Jacob of Miraguay that Salem and Miraguay should unify, in a last ditch effort to save Salem, which prime minister CD said was “on life support.” A referendum was held, and with a majority yes, the union was set to be created, but was not created.
Royal Dominion of Vislan/Dominion of Vislan
On September 25 2022 Vislan ceded itself to Salem. Charli was made Governor. on October 10, 2022, Vislan declared (under Lemynade) declared independence with the support of Charli. The DPM, CD would've been fine with it but Lemynade banned CD from Vislan's Discord server for no reason which caused CD to return the favour. Due to that, Ghost_ decided to get rid of CDs powers This caused CD to resign.
Terredepaixan annexation and integration of Salem
On October 10, 2022, Salem asked to be annexed into Terredepaix. King William Brown of Terredepaix accepted, and Salem was annexed and integrated into Terredepaix as its 11th province, the Terredepaixan Province of Salem. Prime minister delta became the new governor of Salem, and the deputy prime minister, Jaiden, became the new lieutenant governor of Salem. Unfortunately, this caused some controversy.
Controversy
On October 11, 2022, Lieutenant governor Jaiden got upset that Terredepaix had annexed Salem undemocratically. King William states that although it WAS annexed undemocratically, it was a decision the founder of Salem made, and no one in Salem objected to the annexation, so William thinks it’s justified. Jaiden left the Salem server, and Salem entirely, after saying some nasty things to king William. This left the still forming provincial government of Salem scrambling to find a new lieutenant governor for the Salem province.
Independence
After the election of Charli as Governor, she held an election on independence, Salem voted in favor for it.
Government
After independence, Salem reorganized its parliament, it currently has 8 members.

Salem currently has no royal family
Vislan
Salem and Vislan used to have a comparable relationship to the U.K and Canada. After Socaland had finally given up trying to control Salem but Prime Minister Emi claimed to be one of the leaders Salem could not do anything about it and so had to accept it. On the 18th of August, Salem seceded from Vislan. On the 20th, Salem changed its flag to get rid of any references to Vislan.
MUNA
Salem was a founding member of MUNA.
Regions
Salem had 7 regions, those are The Capital Region, Masons Creek, New Lynchburg, Ramia, St. John, North Roanoke, and South Roanoke.
