The Stellvertreter des Vorsitzenden, or simply known as Stellvertreter, is the official deputy to the Vorsitzender of Abelden, who is the head of the government. The office is elected alongside the Vorsitzender in general elections. A Stellvertreter may act as head of government when the Vorsitzender is unable to fulfill their duties, and is second in line should the Vorsitzender lose their position through resignation or otherwise.

The position is currently held by Newton von Uberquie of the National Royalists, following his appointment on 7 August 2020.

Political role

The role of the Stellvertreter is to become the deputy of the Vorsitzender whenever he/she is gone or on leave. The Stellvertreter may take place as Vorsitzender if he/she resigns the office. One example would be when Damian Billbrough, who was at that time Vorsitzender left Abelden and since no Vorsitzender was on place, Llewelyn Lawton took his place instantly as the Stellvertreter becomes the Vorsitzender instantly.

This situation happened when The Duke of Pleston was Prime Minister during Empress Rachel's reign and she abdicated in favour of The Duke of Pleston. Emperor Donald then appointed Andrew Janiszewski, who was Deputy Prime Minister at that time, was suppose to be the Prime Minister officially since the office of the Prime Minister was vacant and the deputy has to fill in that position.

The Stellvertreter also has the role to help the Vorsitzender in different functions on which the Vorsitzender cannot attend to. The Stellvertreter also has to attend every meetings there is.

Election and term length

The Stellvertreter is usually elected during general elections alongside with the Vorsitzender. He/She may also be appointed or removed by the Monarch's pleasure, with an approval from the Reichsversammlung. Elections are usually held during May/June and December/January of the said year, as written in the constitution. The position of Vorsitzender and the Stellvertreter are the only positions elected in Abelden; the rest of the government positions are appointed by the Monarch with the advice from the Reichsversammlung and the winner of the General elections.

The term length of the Stellvertreter is 'at His Majesty's pleasure', the same follows with the Vorsitzender. There is no term limit, but usually three terms are normal term limits. Andrew Janiszewski is currently the longest serving Stellvertreter, serving for 5 motnhs. All his predecessors usually served only for 3 months or less and are replaced most often.

Eligibility

The eligibility for becoming a Stellvertreter is that a candidate must be a Member of the Reichsversammlung and has at least held government office in the Imperial Government and in their respective federal state.
