Succession to the Vishwamitran thrones

Vishwamitra practises an elective monarchy, so there is no distinct line of succession to the Vishwamitran thrones. In the event where the current seat of the throne falls vacant (due to death, incapacitation or resignation), the Conference of Rulers meet to elect the new Rashtradhyaksh (monarch) from among the rulers of the six Vishwamitran states. The Uparashtradhyaksh does not automatically succeed the throne. The election is regulated by Article 52 (Election of the Rashtradhyaksh) of the Constitution of Vishwamitra.

By convention, the Rashtradhyaksh has been elected by the established order of seniority of the states.

States' throne

States' thrones are as follows.

Purvanchal

The line of succession in the state of Purvanchal is quite complex as compared to the other states. The line is not restricted only to the descendants to the founder of the House of Sriraya, Prince Grandfather Sriraya (1936-2010) but also to other extended royal relatives. This includes several cousins of the current head of the house and Maharaja of Purvanchal Varuna Sriraya. The current heir to the crown and crown princess is Princess Sarala, a first cousin of the current Rajpramukh from his paternal side. The line of succession is mostly limited to the siblings and cousins of the current ruler and does not include the ruler's father, uncles, and aunts.

Maharaja Varuna Sriraya (born 2002)
(1) Princess Sarala, Crown Princess and Regent (born 2005)
(2) Princess Prianca, Mrs. Pandey, Princess Royal (born 1993)
(3) Princess Tanishkaa (born 2004)¹
(4) Princess Anoushkaa (born 2010)¹
(5) Prince Abhiraj, Senior Prince (born 2006)
(6) Princess Bishakha (born 2013)

¹Princesses Tanishkaa and Anoushkaa claim a position in the line of succession to the Purvanchali throne being granddaughters of Prince Grandfather Nani Gopal Roy and their mother Lipi, Princess Mother of Beltola being a princess of Purvanchal prior to her marriage. However, being rulers of the other states, they are mostly forbidden from succeeding to the throne unless they vacant the other throne held by them.

Beltola

¹Princess Anoushkaa is a princess of Beltola by birth being a sibling of the current ruler. However, being the ruler of Basistha, she is forbidden from succeeding to the throne unless she vacates the other throne held by her. ²Prince Abhirup is a prince of Beltola by birth being a first cousin of the current ruler. However, being the heir to the throne of Basistha, he is forbidden from succeeding to the throne unless he gives up his right to inherit the other throne.

Uttaranchal

Madhya Prant

Kamrupa

Basistha

The line of succession in the state of Basistha is largely fused with the hereditary lineage of Beltola as both states are ruled by the House of Patranabish. The Basistha branch of the royal house is considered junior to the main ruling branch, in Beltola.
