The Fontasian Supreme Directorate (Fontasian: "Massa Sowyet," literally Great Council), known simply as the Supreme Directorate or just the Directorate is the ruling unicameral legislature of the Kingdom of Fontasia. Consisting of five parties, each lead by a Elected Director. The Praetor of Fontasia and their representing party act as the leaders of the Supreme Directorate, acting in the office of Presidium of the Fontasian Supreme Directorate.
The Supreme Directorate is the major lawmaking instrument of the Fontasian Royal Government, where laws are decided and created and are approved by either the King of Fontasia or the Praetor of Fontasia.
The current Directorate session is the Fourth Directorate and the current Praetor is Joseph Montgomery of the Free Fontasia Party.
Brief History of the Fontasian Supreme Directorate
The Fontasian Supreme Directorate was officially established on 20 May 2022, replacing the old stratocratic Fontasian system of government known as the Fontasian Circumference. On 25 May 2022, the First Directorate session began.
Sortition Era (25 May 2022-12 December 2022)
First Directorate (25 May 2022-10 August 2022)
During the First Directorate lead by Praetor Dillon Fletcher of the Ergatist party several key pieces of Fontasian legislation passed that propelled Fontasia further into its advancement. The Limited Practice, Anti-McKeen Condemnation Act, Greater Fontasia Act and Decolonization of Mappal Act were the most notable pieces of legislation to be passed, mostly during the many crises with Zeprana and the decolonization of the Governorate of Mappal.
Second Directorate (10 August 2022-10 November 2022)
In the Second Directorate, also lead by Praetor Fletcher more key legislation was passed, as well as a major reform on legislative action categories. The Online Neutrality Act, Combination of Fontasian Defense Forces Branches Act the Second Five Month Plan and the Government Schedule Law helped grow Fontasia out of its infancy phase into a capable micronational power. During this session, Praetor Fletcher was suspended, the Galway Troubles and the Orkar Crisis occurred.
Despite this, the Second Directorate was by far the most productive Directorate in Fontasian history, being 145% more effective than the Fontasian Circumference and the First Directorate.
First Preliminary Directorate (10 November 2022-25 November 2022)
After the 2022 Fall Directorial Elections, the 15-day preliminary Directorate began. It acted as an adjustment period for the wave of new Directors, and an opportunity for reformist politicians to propose key legislation useful for the Third Directorate. The Preliminary Directorate passed all of the legislation to begin the Fontasian economic and the approval of the Fontasian Fontis.
2022 Fall Praetorial Election (25 November 2022)

Early Third Directorate (25 November 2022-12 December 2022)
At the start of the Third Directorate, incumbent Praetor Montgomery initiated a policy of rapid reforms to the current Fontasian political system, immediately raising the age for addictive substances as his first action in office. On 30 November 2022 the National Monarchist Party of Fontasia was swept by King Conor I, deposing incumbent Director K..A. and replacing him with political opponent Antonio Salazar.
Democratic Era (12 December 2022-????)
Late Third Directorate (12 December 2022-10 February 2023)
On 12 December 2022, the Free Fontasia Party passed the landmark act known as the Democracy Act which abolished the obscure system of sortition-based voting previously used in past Directorates. This was the first instance of true Fontasian democracy, as the system brought an end to the Centralist-Decentralist Crisis as it allowed for any Fontasian citizen to vote, regardless of being native or non-native. Also on 12 December 2022, the Fontasian Central Court was established, introducing the first judicial system in Assemblian history. Praetor Montgomery is accredited with these great reforms.
In January 2023 a notable stagnation occurred in the Supreme Directorate, which the Fontasian Royal Government criticized greatly, encouraging more activity in the Directorate. By the start of the Fourth Directorate, it became apparent that the Free Fontasia Party, Ergatist Party of Fontasia and the National Monarchist Party of Fontasia were the three dominant political parties in the Directorate, a political alliance transcending sectors.
Fourth Directorate (10 February 2023-10 May 2023)
The Fourth Directorate began with three out of the five Directorate parties having previously incumbent Directors re-elected. A new, liberal candidate was elected for the Populist Party of Fontasia, much to the disdain of the three largest parties, the Free Fontasia Party, Ergatist Party of Fontasia and the National Monarchist Party of Fontasia. Two days after the election, Praetor Joseph Montgomery dismissed the liberal Director of the Populist Party of Fontasia, much to the appeasement of the other parties. Director Thomas Jacobs of the Ergatist Party of Fontasia would enter a leave of absence from his position on 4 March 2023, appointing Ergatist politician from the Governorate of Fontasia Matthew Tonna to temporarily fill his seat until his return or term end.
Duties and Purpose
The Supreme Directorate acts as the third balancing power of the Fontasian government between the King and Praetor. It circulates politicians in government as well as lawmaking.
Some of these powers include:
- National legislature and governing body of the Kingdom of Fontasia.
- Upholder of the Fontasian Constitution.
- Can certify the electoral results for the Praetor of Fontasia in the case of the Electoral College going against the Popular Vote results.
- Creates and decides major decisions and laws of the Kingdom of Fontasia to be approved either by the King or Praetor.
- Manages foreign policy, domestic policy, treasury and government departments as well as governorates and protectorates.
- Has the power to suspend and remove politicians and officials, even the King and Praetor.
- Conducts both Directorial and Praetorial Elections.
The Fontasian Supreme Directorate consists of five parties divided into three sectors each consisting of two parties except the Centrists. Each sector incrementally increases in right-wing radicality, starting with the Centrists and ending with the Far-Right. The Populist Party is the only party within the Centrist sector. The Christian Democratic Party and the National Monarchist Party are the two parties of the Neutral-Right sector. The Ergatist Party and the Irredentist Reclamation Front are the two parties of the Far-Right Sector.
The Directorate acts as the major lawmaking body other than the King. The Parties each hold 1 vote, with a Simple Majority of at least 3/5ths of the Parties approving the legislation being required for it to pass.
The Directorate, coinciding with the Second Fontasian Constitution will not allow leftist parties to be represented in government, but this could be subject to change in the coming months or years. Several political groups supporting one or more parties in the Directorate are already present.
The Directorate is also a de facto Ergatist legislature, as all parties, as of 8 September 2022 are de facto Ergatist, just with varying degrees of conservatism for the ideology. The Directorate functions in the same way, just with far more Ergatist representation.
Elections
Every three months, on 10 May, 10 August, 10 November and 10 February a Directorial Election occurs. Between these elections, a new politician may announce their candidacy for Director, or the incumbent Director can announce re-election. During these elections, the candidates running for the same seat of a party are voted on 7 times randomly, and the candidate who prevails wins the seat.
In order to run for the position of Praetor of Fontasia, the candidate must be an incumbent Director of a political party. Praetors can hold Directorial seats occasionally.
