No, we do not need your permission to assign you a code, especially if there are perfectly logical two and three letter combinations available. This is not an organization that you have to subscribe to or "recognize," it is a directory or "phone book"-like project maintained by an independent entity.

Info and FAQ

Codes are an abbreviation of a nation’s short name, and do not include titles that describe the nation’s type of government:

  • Kingdom of
  • Duchy of
  • Dominion of
  • Republic of
  • Empire of
  • Nation of
  • State of
  • Reich
  • Caliphate

(Not an exhaustive list)

Exceptions to this rule are unions, where Union (or similar) is used to describe a union of specific types of government. For example:

United States of America (USA) United Republics of Michigan (URM)

These all count as valid exceptions where descriptors of type of government can be used, but, “Union” may still be dropped when its presence is deemed unnecessary in a code. Example:

United Arab Emirates (ARE for ARab Emirates, “union” is ignored)

However, names that describe a union with a specific government type are NOT exceptions, and may only include an abbreviation for “union” in the code, such an example would be

Republic of the Union of Eastasia (UEA for Union of EastAsia)

because a government type describes the union as a whole, not the individual parts that came together.

The code you are issued is ultimately at the discretion of the administration of the IMSO.

Request

Dear administrators of the Intermicronational Organization for Standardization and MicroWiki:

On behalf of the Federal Council of Enchenia, we are requesting an IMSO 1 code be assigned to the Federation of Enchenia. We would prefer "EN" or "EA" for the alpha-2 code and "ENC" or "ENA" for the alpha-3 code, but we are open to any other codes. Please list our location as "United States" under "Sovereignty from". We truly appreciate your time and assistance.

Yours sincerely,
Ngok Ching Ying Suet
Federal Councillor of Enchenia

FK request

The Fili Government would like "FK" for our Alpha-2 code and "FKI" for our alpha-3 code, however any similar code is okay. If approved, can you add that to the list?

Thanks,

Name change

For the country code RCM, Roscamistan is mentioned by its old official name the Republic of Roscamistan, when instead it should be referred to as the Roscami Federation. DesertHeat (talk) 11:48, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
