The Treaty of Ruskin Road was the peace agreement signed at the end of the Austenasian Civil War between the Austenasian government and Carolinian leaders. The treaty confirmed that HIM Emperor Esmond III was the legitimate Monarch, declared peace between the two sides, and restored the situation in Austenasia to roughly the same that it was before the civil war.

Terms

One of the two main terms of the Treaty of Ruskin Road was the declaration of peace - since early March, the Austenasian Army and their foreign supporters had been at war with Carolinian rebels and their foreign supporters. Articles 1, 4, 9 and 13 declared peace and had the Carolinians disband and surrender to the Austenasian government. The Austenasian Army was also directed to "disband all-volunteer and superfluous forces".

The other main term of the Treaty was the recognition of the legitimacy of the reign of HIM Emperor Esmond III. All signatories recognised Esmond III "as the lawful and legitimate Monarch of the Empire of Austenasia" under Article 2, and Princess Caroline's claim to the Throne was withdrawn and denounced in Article 3. Also, throughout the Treaty, the government of Esmond III was consistently described as "the lawful government", and Esmond III was referred to as "the lawful Monarch" nearly every time mentioned.

The Carolinian general William was granted amnesty, as the Treaty recognised that he was of the sincere (although mistaken) belief that he was doing his duty to who he believed was the rightful Monarch. Princess Caroline, however, was sentenced to a week in exile, which she carried out during August that year. South Kilttown was taken out of martial law, and it was ordered that the Baron and Representative of South Kilttown (now Zephyria) shall swear an oath of loyalty and allegiance to the Monarch the Sunday after every Independence Day in Austenasia.

Signatories

The Treaty was signed on 23 May 2010 by HIH Crown Prince Jonathan, Prime Minister of Austenasia; William of South Kilttown, Carolinian general; and HIH Princess Caroline, Carolinian claimant to the Throne. These signatories signed the Treaty in a church on Ruskin Road in Carshalton, hence the name of the Treaty - Vicereine Margaret (mother of the Crown Prince and Princess) and Dame Rosalind (their aunt) signed as witnesses to the three of them.

The final signature was that of HIM Emperor Esmond III, the legitimate Austenasian Monarch. He signed the following day at a school in Carshalton, bringing the Treaty into force and ending the civil war - General Sir J. Goldie (a leading government military officer) and Sir George Curtis (recipient of an Austenasian knighthood), both members of the unofficial "Imperial Court" at the Emperor's school, signed as witnesses to him.
