An edit count is a number stored for each user counting the total times they have saved a change or changes to a page on MicroWiki. MicroWiki, which runs on the software MediaWiki, counts edits in all namespaces (articles, drafts, file uploads, talk pages, user pages, user talk pages, templates, files, etc.), however some types of edits that may be included in certain page count tools—such as page moves—are not captured by other counting methods. The simplest method to view a user's edit count is via Special:Preferences, which includes deleted edits.[b] The MediaWiki extension Special:Editcount gives a more detailed view of the namespaces edited by a user, however it excludes deleted edits.[c] Nevertheless, typing {{Special:Editcount/User}}
[d] will display a user's live edit count on any page and include deleted edits. The server counts each edit—regardless of whether it reflects a single change to a page or many—as 1; this is what the server does when generating the efficient counts shown in Special:Preferences and in Special:Editcount, the latter of which gathers its data directly from the server.
Although MicroWiki was founded on 27 May 2005, all prior edit counts and page histories were erased after MicroWiki moved its domain from microwiki.org.uk
to micronation.org
on 7 November 2013. Additionally, MicroWiki was originally hosted on Wikia (now Fandom) from its foundation until the community moved on 14 November 2010. These edits counts, alongside those of microwiki.org.uk
, are not counted on MicroWiki; as such, for user accounts registered on MicroWiki prior to 7 November 2013 there is a significant disparity between the edit counts counted on the aforementioned methods and their actual edit counts on MicroWiki. In order to attempt limit this discrepancy, the below list includes the edit counts of users on the former Wikia website—the edit counts of whom are still publicly viewable on MicroNations Fandom[e]—and an estimated edit count on microwiki.org.uk
, the number of which has been estimated based on various calculation methods, such as known edit counts (typically via snapshots on the Wayback Machine; testimonials are not considered reliable) and guesses based on calculations from the known average daily edit counts of users with registered accounts on both Wikia and the current MicroWiki. Instances of these calculations are indicated in the list of users by edit count below.
The first edit on MicroWiki was made on 27 May 2005 at 15:14 (UTC) by Fabian Schneider—the founder of MicroWiki—under the username Monsterfurby. Perry, chancellor of the United Republic of Arlberg, claimed the title upon reaching 8 edits on 14 October, and on 1 May 2006, Jeffrey II, Prince of Satirocity, overtook Perry upon reaching 104 edits. This was followed on 23 January 2009 by Joe Foxon with 913 edits and Alexander Reinhardt on 27 April with 1,221 edits. MicroWiki moved to an independent domain on 14 November 2010—first to microwiki.co.cc
and later to microwiki.org.uk
By 2 December. It is probable that the domain's owner Pierre d'Égtavie was the first user to make an edit to the new wiki. Due to software restrictions, all pages on the old Wikia website had to be manually imported. Aldrich Lucas, an administrator at the time, took the liberty of doing this strenuous task, leading to his edit count skyrocketing. By the time Lucas retired from editing in February 2012, he had made 28,632 edits to the wiki, well over that of any other user.
When MicroWiki moved to micronation.org
on 7 November 2013, all prior edit counts and page histories were erased. Ciprian (User:Cip) was the first user to make an edit to the new domain after the move. Ciprian's edit count was overtaken on 15 May 2014 by site owner Jonathan I, Emperor of Austenasia (editing under the account Austenasia), upon reaching 827 edits; followed by Ned Gunderson (Mikejones) 18 November 2015 with 2,802 edits; Jonathan I retaking the top spot on 27 December with 2,953 edits; Tarik Karjasari (Ricky) briefly on 1 March 2016 with 3,297 edits; Jonathan I again on 8 March with 3,334 edits; and Gunderson reclaiming the title on 15 May with 3,581 edits. On 15 April 2019, after holding the highest edit count for 1,065 days, Gunderson was overtaken by John, King of Baustralia (KingdomOfBaustralia) wtih 15,659 edits. On 7 November, Zabëlle Skye (ZabëlleNB) reached the highest edit count with 18,607 edits. Skye, after holding the highest edit count for a record 1,123 days, was overtaken by Dhrubajyoti Roy (Oritsu.me) on 4 December 2022 with 53,840 edits. Roy has since amassed 76,844 edits as of 1 June 2023.
Edit count
An edit count is a number stored for each user on MicroWiki counting the total times they have saved a change or changes to a page on the wiki. MicroWiki, which runs on the software MediaWiki, counts edits in all namespaces (articles, drafts, talk pages, file uploads, user pages, user talk pages, templates, files, etc.), however some types of edits that may be included in certain page count tools—such as page moves—are not captured by other counting methods. For instance, if an editor was to manually count their edit count on Special:Contributions, there would be a large discrepancy between this count and the count at Special:Preferences. If a user renames (moves) a page, that adds a history entry on both the old and new names of the page to show that the page has been renamed, and therefore counts as 2 towards a user's contributions count. If the page being moved had a talk page, which was renamed as well, that counts as 2 more, so a single move can add up to 4 to a user's contribution count, while it would add 0 to the server count.

The simplest method to view a user's edit count is via Special:Preferences, which includes deleted edits. Deleted edits are edits that are no longer accessible to non-administrators—whether the page to which the edits were made is deleted,[b] or manually deleted—revision deletion—because of breaking a policy on MicroWiki such as violating privacy or copyright. A user's edit count is also displayed at the bottom left corner of edit revisions on MicroWiki's mobile view. The MediaWiki extension Special:Editcount gives a more detailed view of the namespaces edited by a user, however it excludes deleted edits.[c] Nevertheless, typing {{Special:Editcount/User}}
Edit counts are global. This means that edits made on sister projects of MicroWiki, like MicroCommons, MicroWikiDictionary and other language-editions, count towards a user's total edit count.
Relationship between edit count and skill
Edit counts are a crude and inaccurate measure of determining an editor's skill or worth ("quality over quantity"). There are a number of reasons why a user's edit count usually does not indicate quality of work, the quality of said editor, or the significance of their contributions to the wiki. Many editors who are high on the list perform routine tasks that require less time per edit such as fixing typos, maintaining templates, adding ambox templates, updating and maintaining lists, reverting vandalism or creating redirects; conversely, users who create a number of long pages or make major additions might easily spend a week or more undertaking research before editing, and appear much lower on the list—if at all. Additionally, some editors use the 'Show Preview' button until they are satisfied with a particular (possibly very long) edit, while others will habitually save a succession of small changes as they go. Lastly, some editors may excessively edit pages in the user namespace, especially their own userpages (also called sandboxes) when making test edits.
Editors may also employ bots or automated tools to help them make edits, which are capable of fixing many simple errors per minute like spelling, links or formatting errors. In contrast, some bot owners route their bot or automated edits through separate bot accounts while others include them in their own edits, further resulting in a discrepancy between multiple user's edit counts.
List

Although MicroWiki was founded on 27 May 2005, all prior edit counts and page histories were erased after MicroWiki moved its domain from microwiki.org.uk
to micronation.org
on 7 November 2013. Additionally, MicroWiki was originally hosted on wiki hosting service Wikia (formerly Wikicities; now Fandom) from its foundation until the community moved to an independent domain on 14 November 2010—briefly microwiki.co.cc
then microwiki.org.uk
by 2 December. These edits counts, alongside those of microwiki.org.uk
, are not automatically counted by counting methods employed by MicroWiki; as such, for user accounts registered on MicroWiki prior to 7 November 2013 there is a significant disparity between the edit counts counted on the aforementioned methods and their actual edit counts on MicroWiki.
In an attempt limit this discrepancy, the below list includes the edit counts of users on the former Wikia website—the edit counts of whom are still publicly viewable on MicroNations Fandom[e]—and an estimated edit count on microwiki.org.uk
, the number of which has been estimated based on various calculation methods, such as known edit counts (typically via snapshots on the Wayback Machine; testimonials are not considered reliable) and guesses based on calculations from the known average daily edit counts of users with registered accounts on both Wikia and the current MicroWiki. Instances of these calculations are indicated with a plus (+) below.[f]
The following table lists the one-hundred users with the largest edit counts,[g] as well as whether or not the user is an administrator. Edit counts are updated automatically via the MediaWiki extension Special:Editcount, which takes its edit counts directly from the server. As of 31 May 2023, in order to be included on this list a user must reach an edit count of 1,916. 96 users have over 2,000 edits, 69 over 3,000, 51 over 4,000, 46 over 5,000, 32 over 6,000, 28 over 7,000, 24 over 8,000, 19 over 9,000, and 16 over 10,000. Eight users have edit counts greater than 20,000, and five have over 30,000 edits. Zabëlle Skye (ZabëlleNB) is the only user with 50,000 edits, and Dhrubajyoti Roy (Oritsu.me) is the only editor to have reached both 60,000 and 70,000 edits.[1][2]
- This lists only the top 100 most prolific editors, however, the count may exceed 100 if a tie exists for the 100th-highest edit count
- While edit-counts are automatically updated, ranks have to be updated by hand and may therefore be outdated.
Highest edit count progression
Since 7 November 2013
Although MicroWiki was founded on 27 May 2005, all prior edit counts and page histories were erased after MicroWiki moved its domain from microwiki.org.uk
to micronation.org
on 7 November 2013. Additionally, MicroWiki was originally hosted on Wikia (formerly Wikicities; now Fandom) from its foundation until the community moved on 14 November 2010. These edit counts, alongside those of microwiki.org.uk
, are not counted on MicroWiki's current software. Ciprian (Cip) was the first user to make an edit to the new domain after the move. Ciprian's edit count was overtaken on 15 May 2014 by site owner Jonathan I, Emperor of Austenasia (editing under the account Austenasia), upon reaching 827 edits. Ned Gunderson (Mikejones) briefly overtook Jonathan I on 18 November 2015 with 2,802 edits, followed by Jonathan I retaking the top spot on 27 December with 2,953 edits.
On 1 March 2016, Tarik Karjasari (Ricky) briefly occupied the top spot for a period of seven days with 3,297 edits before being overtaken on 8 March by Jonathan I with 3,334 edits. On 15 May, Gunderson reclaimed the top spot upon reaching 3,581 edits. On 15 April 2019, after holding the highest edit count for 1,065 days, Gunderson was overtaken by John, King of Baustralia (KingdomOfBaustralia) after he reached 15,659 edits. On 7 November, Zabëlle Skye (ZabëlleNB) reached the highest edit count on MicroWiki upon reaching 18,607 edits. Skye, after holding the highest edit count for a record 1,123 days, was eventually overtaken by Dhrubajyoti Roy (Oritsu.me) on 4 December 2022 with 53,840 edits.

Before 7 November 2013

The first edit on MicroWiki was made on 27 May 2005 at 15:14 (UTC) by Fabian Schneider—the founder of MicroWiki—under the username Monsterfurby.[af][110] Schneider would make seven edits before departing from the wiki that same day. He would thus hold the highest edit count on the online encyclopaedia until 14 October 2005 when Perry, chancellor of the United Republic of Arlberg, claimed the designation upon reaching just eight edits. On 1 May 2006, Jeffrey II, Prince of Satirocity, overtook Perry upon reaching 104 edits. Both Perry and Jeffrey II used multiple accounts to make edits to the wiki, making their true edit counts difficult to verify. Jeffrey II's edit count would not be overtaken until nearly three years later, when Joe Foxon—editing under the account Joefoxon—overtook Jeffrey II on 23 January 2009 with 913 edits. This was followed on 27 April 2009 by Alexander Reinhardt (Cajak) with 1,221 edits.
MicroWiki moved to an independent domain on 14 November 2010—first to microwiki.co.cc
and later microwiki.org.uk
by 2 December. The latter domain continued to hold the same edit count as the former domain. It is probable that Pierre d'Égtavie (Demontux)—the owner of the domain—was the first user to make an edit to the new wiki. Due to software restrictions, all pages on the old Wikia website had to be manually imported. Aldrich Lucas, an administrator at the time, took on the liberty of doing this strenuous task, leading to his edit count skyrocketing. While the exact number of articles MicroWiki had at the time is unknown, Lucas had reached "almost 16,000" edits by 8 January 2011.[111] By the time Lucas retired from editing in February 2012, he had made 28,632 edits to the wiki, well over that of any other user.[112]

Milestones and records
Milestones
Schneider made the first edit on MicroWiki on 27 May 2005. Perry, who overtook Schneider as the user with the highest edit count on 14 October upon making eight edits, became the first user to reach an edit count of 100 on 20 January 2006. Foxon was the first editor to reach 1,000 edits on 14 February 2009. Lucas reached 10,000 edits between 14 November 2010–8 January 2011 because of importing pages during the migration from Wikia; it is only known that he had zero edits on 14 November 2010 and had "almost 16,000" on 8 January 2011. Lucas had an edit count of 28,632 when he retired from editing on 20 February 2012. Coupled with his 2,894 edits from his old account on Wikia, Lucas had made 31,526 edits all together, indicating that he was also the first editor to reach both 20,000 and 30,000 edits.
Although the exact date he reached these milestones is unknown, it can be guessed based on available data; knowing that Lucas had "almost 16,000 edits" on 8 January 2011 and 28,632 edits on 20 February 2012. Assuming Lucas had an edit count of 15,900 on 8 January, this would indicate he had made 12,732 edits between the two aforementioned dates. Assuming no change in editing patterns (though it certainly would have), it can be assumes that Lucas made 979.38 edits per month, meaning he possibly reached 20,000 edits in May 2011 and 30,000 in January 2012. It would take until 9 March 2021 for the next milestone to be broken, when Skye became the first user to reach 40,000 edits.[113] Skye also became the first editor to reach 50,000 edits on 13 May 2022.[114] Roy was the first user to reach the milestones of 60,000 and 70,000 edits, doing so 9 February[115] and 22 April 2023 respectively.[116]

Fastest
Users who have reached a certain milestone within the shortest amount of time since registering an account. Because of the migration from Wikia, Lucas, who took the liberty of mass importing pages onto the new domain, created an account on 14 November 2010 and immediately began importing thousands of pages that same day. Based on the aforementioned estimates, Lucas probably reached 10,000 edits in December 2010—between ~16 and 47 days after registering an account—20,000 edits in May 2011 after ~168–198 days, and 30,000 edits in January 2012 after ~413–443 days. Skye and Roy are the only two editors to have have reached 40,000 or more edits; of those two, Roy was the fastest to reach each milestone. Having created his account on 5 August 2020, Roy reached 40,000 edits on 2 August 2022 after 727 days; 50,000 on 2 November after 819 days; and 60,000 edits on 9 February 2023 after 918 days.

Days spent at first place

The record for the longest time spent at first place with the highest-edit count is held by Skye, who held the top spot for 1,123 days between 7 November 2019 and 4 December 2022. This narrowly beats Gunderson, who had the highest-edit count on MicroWiki for a combined number of 1,104 days between 18 November and 27 December 2015, and 15 May 2016 until 15 April 2019. Lucas is the third and last user to have held the highest-edit count for one-thousand days—1,089 between ~14 November 2010 and 7 November 2013.
Hodgson narrowly misses out with 998 days between 1 May 2006 and 23 January 2009. Jonathan I is fifth, having held the top spot for 685 days; Reinhardt for 584 days; John for 207 days; Perry for 199 days; Ciprian for 189 days; Roy, who currently holds the highest-edit count, for 179 days;[ae] Schneider for 140 days; Foxon for 94 days; Karjasari for 7 days; and finally d'Égtavie for possibly a single day.[ak]

Most edits by timeframe

Most edits by a user in a given time frame. Lucas almost certainly holds the record for at least most edits made in one week or one month, however no exact dates nor amounts are known. The record for most edits made in a single second is held by Štefan Marius Snagoveanu (StefanSNG) who uploaded a batch of 17 files simultaneously via the UploadWizard feature at 13:42 on 1 July 2022.[117] Excluding uploads, this record was achieved by Skye at 17:15 on 9 April 2023 (UTC), when he made four edits[118] simultaneously accross three devices—two edits on an iPad and one each on an iPhone and iMac. Skye also has the record for most edits made in one minute, after purposefully making 79 edits at 16:09 on 29 April 2023.[119] Skye also made the most edits in a single hour, though this time unintentionally: 295 between 02:12–03:07 on 13 May 2022.[118] Tomáš Falešník—editing as AtomCZ—has the record for most edits made in a single day without automated editing tools, having made 1,215 edits on 13 November 2020.[120] Matthew Laptev (MattL) holds said record when automated tools are included; having made 3,134 edits on 18 April 2023.[121] Roy made the most edits in a single week, with 2,486 between 7–13 April 2022.[122] Laptev holds said record when including automated tools, having made 4,052 edits between 17–23 April 2023.[123] Roy holds the record for both most edits made in a single month and single year; 10,663 edits between 11 April–11 May 2023 and 35,690 edits between 1 January 2022–1 January 2023.

Footnotes
- ↑ Only edits made after 14 November 2013 were counted.
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 As an example, if a user tagged an article for speedy deletion and the article was subsequently deleted, the server count continues to reflect that now-deleted edit as having been made and thus includes it in the total edit count.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 As Special:Editcount attempts to create more detailed results by relying on looking through Special:Contributions and counting a user's edits there, it does not take deleted edits into account. Deleted edits, which are only visible to administrators, are not counted on Special:Contributions; therefore this edit count of contributions is often lower than the server count.
- ↑ 4.0 4.1 Alternatively, copying
{{Special:Editcount/{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}}
and pasting it into an article will automatically produce the template displaying the user who made the edit's live edit count. - ↑ 5.0 5.1 Though a controversial issue, all edits made on MicroNations Fandom after 14 November 2010 should not be counted, as it is considered a separate wiki unaffiliated with MicroWiki; see migration from Wikia.

- ↑ 37.0 37.1 37.2 It is probable to assume that Pierre d'Égtavie (Demontux)—the owner of the
MicroWiki.co.cc
domain—was likely the first user to make an edit to the new wiki. - ↑ MicroWiki moved to an independent domain on 14 November 2010—first to
microwiki.co.cc
and latermicrowiki.org.uk
by 2 December. Due to software restrictions, all pages on the old Wikia website had to be manually imported to the new domain. Aldrich Lucas, an administrator at the time, took on the liberty of doing this strenuous task that same day, leading to his edit count skyrocketing.
