The Vice President of Glorosia is the second highest officer in the executive branch of the Government of Glorosia, after the President of Glorosia and is the first in line of presidential succession.

The vice presidency is a position of significant power and is widely seen as an integral part of a president's administration. While the exact nature of the role varies in each administration, most vice presidents serve as a key presidential advisor, governing partner, and representative of the president.

Role

The role and duties of the vice president are not codified and it varies depending on what roles and powers the president delegates to the vice president. However, the VP commonly serves as a governing partner and senior key presidential advisor as well as a national and governmental representative on behalf of the president. The VP may also act as president in the absence of a president and they succeed the presidency in the event of the removal of a president.

Tenure

Inauguration

The vice president is sworn in the same day as the president.

During the inauguration the president is required to swear the following oath: "I, (full name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Republic of Glorosia against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

Impeachment

The supreme court has the power to impeach the vice president, like the president, if they are suspected of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanours.

However, this has never happened before.

Vacancies

In the event of a vacancy the president may choose to select someone to take office or they may leave the office empty if they deem it necessary or appropriate.

Appointment

The vice president is indirectly elected alongside the president, however is technically officially appointed by the president. The vice president isn't required to be of the same party as the president but, by convention, usually is.
