Vishwamitran nobility

The Vishwamitra nobility comprises of Vishwamitran individuals or families recognized as noble in Vishwamitra. The system of nobility in Vishwamitra is unique as compared to the other nobilities existing in the society. Individuals are conferred with noble ranks which consist of a three grade structure with dukes being the highest, followed by counts and then barons. It is noteworthy that members of the royal families are barred from holding a noble rank.

The nobility does not, however, provide any social privileges or benefits to the conferees. It is a ceremonial rank bestowed by the sovereign to recognize the contributions of the individuals towards the nation.

History

In December 2020, a two member committee was constituted by Rashtradhyaksh Varuna Sriraya to deliberate on the creation of a nobility system in the nation. Subsequently, the members of the committee, Isaiah David and David Augustus, both of whom became dukes later, submitted their report on the establishment of the nobility. Their inputs were effectively adopted and decreed by the Rashtradhyaksh through his royal decree.

On 28 October 2022, through yet another royal decree, the Rashtradhyaksh introduced significant changes and amendments to the system of nobility. As a result of the changes, all the nobles were to drop the territorial designations from their titles and only use their noble rank as a prefix to their names. It was further amended on 12 April 2023 which allowed the nobles to use their noble rank with their surnames in their short title of address.

Noble ranks

From the time of establishment, a three tier noble structure had existed in the nation. All the titles are for life or until revoked or renounced. The titles are conferred by royal decrees or equivalent royal orders issued by the Rashtradhyaksh in connection with the privy councils. Citizens are recognized with noble ranks for their most valuable contributions and extraordinary services to the nation. In addition to citizens, foreigners can also be conferred with honorary noble ranks in the nation.

The title of Duke is the highest noble rank in use in Vishwamitra. They are ranked below the royals styled as "Highness". It is customarily conferred on senior statesmen and other notable individuals whose services have highly benefitted the state and to those who have rendered significant personal services to the monarch. The dukes are entitled to use the style of "Grace". National Artists are conferred with the rank of a duke as well.

The title of Count is the second highest noble rank after the duke. The rank of a count is usually conferred on members of the government, members of the privy council and sometimes to foreigners whose contributions are highly worthy and recognized but not as much as required for one to be a duke. The counts are entitled to use the style of "The Right Honourable".

The title of Baron is the junior-most noble rank in use and the most conferred noble rank. It is conferred upon ordinary individuals as well in recognition of their services in various fields of human endeavour. The barons are entitled to use the style of "The Right Honourable".
