Vote on the Nemkhav Nation 2009
The Vote on the Nemkhav Nation 2009 was a vote that took place on December 14, 2009. It was to decide the future of Nemkhavia once and for all, after the mass walkout of scholars and upper members of the Government during the Palace Conference. Then-King Marka I had laid this down as the final debate on Nemkhav nationhood. He had been quoted as saying 'The question of our form of rule must be answered soon, once and for all'.
The mass walkout of upper members of the Government and upper-class scholars is rumoured to be part of the cause for the vote, with many socialist supporters seeing it as a possible return to socialist ways.
The Vote
The vote offered a choice of three outcomes for the people of Nemkhavia. The King had stated that the decision must be made once and for all, for the good of the people and the survival of the nation. The options available are as follows:
- A continuation of the Kingdom of Nemkhavia, with Marka I as Head of State.
- A return to the Nemkhav Federation. The nation would return to the form it had before the change to Monarchy. The King would step down and allow a vote for a new President of the Federation, and Premier of the Federation. The Nemkhav People's Party would return to power.
- The creation of a new state, the plans for which have filed in the Palace in Astor Impora since the plan for joining the USMR, called the Socialist Federal Republic of Nemkhavia. A new political party would be founded to lead this nation, with free elections begin the day the election results are announced.
All three choices presented a definite step forward for the nation, and the King had announced that this result will the final decision on the matter for the time being. He had been quoted as saying 'We have had too many changes of Government. We must make a choice'.
The Outcome
The outcome of the election was the creation of the Socialist Federal Republic of Nemkhavia. A new party, the League of Communists of Nemkhavia was created, from the amalgamation of the Nemkhav People's Party, the Red Movement, and other left-wing groups.
