The Legislative Assembly of Colorado (Latin: Legum Conventus Colorado) was the formal advisory body of the Grand Duchy of Colorado. It was a deliberative assembly that advised the Grand Duke on issues important to the government of Colorado. Though members of the Legislative Assembly were permitted to propose legislation, the Legislative Assembly could not enact legislation themselves, instead relying on the Grand Duke to assent and enforce proposed legislation. The Legislative Assembly was presided over by the Prime Minister. Membership in the Legislative Assembly was exclusive to members of the nobility and members of the House of Colorado.

Membership

The Legislative Assembly was constitutionally limited to only be held occupied by the peerage of Colorado. At the time of dissolution, the reigning-House of Colorado held all the peerages of the Grand Duchy of Colorado, and therefore holds all the seats in the Assembly.

1st Legislative Assembly

The 1st (and sole) Legislative Assembly opened on 1 April 2022 and closed on 29 October 2023. At dissolution, 3 seats were filled with 1 seat left vacant. Upon opening, the Legislative Assembly consisted of 6 seats, but upon the acquisition of the counties of Grand Junction and Springs by Friedrich I, Grand Duke of Colorado, the number of seats decreased to 4.

Powers and Authority

Though members of the Legislative Assembly could propose legislation, they could not pass, enact or enforce legislation, instead relying on the Grand Duke to assent and enforce legislation. The incumbent Marquess of Greater Colorado was automatically appointed to the premiership of Colorado. In addition to serving as the prime minister, the Marquess was also the heir presumptive to the Grand Duke's throne. The Cabinet of First Ministers, the advisory body to the prime minister, consisted of other members of the Legislative Assembly. The Legislative Assembly was also constitutionally protected from permanent dissolution by the Grand Duke. However, the Grand Duke could have temporarily dissolved the Legislative Assembly, such as when closing and convening a new Legislative Assembly term.
