The Republic of Texas (Spanish: República de Tejas) is a sovereign state in North America founded on 2 March 1836. The Republic-claimed borders are based upon the Treaties of Velasco. The eastern boundary had been defined by the Adams–Onís Treaty of 1819 between the United States and Spain. It is presumed that the present Republic claims all of this territory yet cannot effectively control the territory or enforce Texian Law over said territory. The citizens of the republic are known as Texians.
