The Administrator of the government of Queensland (Thai: ผู้รักษาระบบรัฐบาลในสมเด็จฯ) is the acting prime minister of the Commonwealth of Queensland, used only at the Queensland general election.
The post of Administrator of the government of Queensland most recently served by Sir David Justin Portal Malta from 2 February to 2 March 2023, in time for the 2023 general election.
History
The Administrator of the government of Queensland was established on 10 August 2021 on the recommendation of Dame Armgard Louise Victor Margaret to provide an interim role to the government while the incumbent government expires and enters to the general election, the President of the Supreme Court of Queensland will be responsible for this position and will be appointed by the Crown.
Sir David Justin Portal Malta is the first President of the Supreme Court to hold the position Administrator of the government of Queensland, having held this position a total of three times.
Currently, Burnett Maldon, Baron Maldon of Ioannina, as President of the Supreme Court is eligible to hold the position Administrator of the government, if he is not ready to perform his duties, the House of Lords will nominate someone from an independent to take the position Administrator of the government.
Temporary cabinet
The Administrator of the government is allowed to have a Cabinet, using the name of that Cabinet as "temporary cabinet" established at the will of the king and the House of Lords to prevent major events while a general election is being held.
The temporary cabinet is responsible for maintaining the country's systems and issuing important announcements in the event of major national problems, the temporary cabinet does not have the power to enact or repeal acts,because acts must be approved by Houses of Parliament.
