Agatonia, officially known as the Commonwealth of Agatonia (Sheffielder: Commonwealth ez Agatónianet; Somerlean: Sudrožistvo Agatonije; Russian: Содружество Агатонии) is a micronation and a self-proclaimed sovereign state. Agatonia declared its independence from the Netherlands on April 18, 2023 (also known as Independence Day). It is known for being home to the Micronational Freedom Index.
The mainland is completely landlocked by the Netherlands and it consists of 6 states as well as 30 uninhabited enclaves located in the Netherlands and Belgium. The nation’s capital is Kangarooville, one of Agatonia’s northernmost cities. The government seat is also located in Kangarooville (temporarily).
Agatonia was a member and the owner of the inactive Micronational Treaty Organisation (replaced by the MicroEuropean Union). It is a delegate in 3 micronational organisations: the GUM, the MA and the MEU. Agatonia is also the founder of the MEU.
The Emperor is HSM Sachiko I. HSM Sachiko I is also the Head of State.
Etymology
The name Agatonia comes from the site “https://mobile-cuisine.com/branding/fictional-country-names/”, on the 11th country name.
History
Establishment of the Commonwealth
Around April 2023, President Kaito I had the idea that he would establish a micronation. After that, he established the micronation directly and he called it “Agatonia”. The official name has directly been announced, named the People’s Republic of Agatonia (Italian: Repubblica popolare d’Agatonia; Dutch: Volksrepubliek Agatonië). He proclaimed the establishment of Agatonia and he directly became the President of Agatonia. At that time, the nation had 4 citizens.
License plates
2 months later, license plates were introduced. The serial format for all vehicles, except for motorcycles was XXX99X. Motorcycles got the license plate format XX99XXX.
Language change
On the day that license plates were introduced, the official language was changed to Italian and many cities were born like La Cambria (The Government Seat (GST); Italian: La Sedia del Governo (SGO)). Italian was the official language in Agatonia from August 22, 2023 until November 14, 2023.
Revolution and appliance to GUM
On November 14, 2023, a revolution happened. The official language suddenly became English again, and all cities in Agatonia were anglificated. In January 2023, Agatonia filled in an appliance form for the GUM (Grand Unified Micronational) and they celebrated it. The micronation is now an observer and wishes to be a provisional member.
