The Armed Forces of Loquntia are the military and paramilitary forces of Loquntia governed by the Ministry of Defence. The Prime Minister may appoint a Minister of Defence at leisure, and the King may commission a Commander-in-Chief to be the supreme military officer of Loquntia. Only the Commander-in-Chief has the authority to issue direct military orders, and only the Minister of Defence has the authority to promulgate rules for the Ministry of Defence. While there is no statutory requirement that they be the same person, this has historically been the case. The Armed Forces is broadly governed by Title 3 of the Revised Statutes of Loquntia, and together with the justiciary it is an institution of government with power divided between the Sovereign's Royal Person and the Cabinet.

When Loquntia was founded, it had a paramilitary consisting of only two people, both of which were designated as covert operatives. As of December 2021, it is illegal to publish or suggest any numbers regarding military personnel and materiel

Gendarmerie

The primary paramilitary and police force of Loquntia is the Gendarmerie (also spelled Gendarmery). Known colloquially as the "Careforce", the goal is to eventually have an armed force of mixed emergency service personnel. Training includes first aid, disaster recovery, close protection, and domestic defence. Gendarmerie personnel are also licensed peace officers by the Constable-General.

Gendarmerie assignments include close protection, venue recce, emergency rescue services, as well as police functions such as apprehending fugitives, crime investigation. and executing warrants.

National Guard

The Loquntian National Guard is the general military expeditionary force. In spite of its name, it is a special forces corps used to further and protect the foreign interests of Loquntia and its allies. In addition to subterfuge and covert operations, the National Guard is tasked with logistics. The movement of materiel and personnel around the world on the behalf of the Loquntian government is done by the National Guard.

Foreign Legion

The Loquntian foreign legion is the only corps in which enlisted personnel do not have to be Loquntian citizens. There is however a statutory requirement that all commissioned officers of the Foreign Legion be born or naturalized Loquntian citizens. As of December 2021 the Foreign Legion is not staffed.

Ranks

Enlisted ranks are denoted by silver (or white) stripes. Officer ranks are indicated by gold mullets (5-pointed stars). The highest-ranking general officer in Loquntia is the Commander-in-Chief, presented as a f our-star general. Inspired by naval tradition, all enlisted personnel are coloquially called "rates". Whenever the Sovereign is present or presiding over a military ceremony he is traditionally treated as a commissioned officer of indeterminate rank.
