The Astyanax River is the name given to the stretch of the Pardo River that crosses Marienbourg. It is a tributary of the Rio Grande and a sub-tributary of the Paraná River. Its Marienbourgish name, Astyanax, is the scientific name for the freshwater fish locally known as lambari, common in the river's tributaries and widely fished for consumption.
The river cuts through a northeastern portion of the estate and land owned by Princes Anthony and Edson of Marienbourg that makes up the municipality of Pomerade, limiting the Zederthal Forest and dividing the two portions of the Duke's National Park .
