Aynvaul (Irish: Áinnebhaul), also known as the Micronational Government of Aynvaul or The Aynvaul Micronation, is currently the oldest extant micronation active on Long Island and Southern New England. It consists of a handful of 'incorporated Kingdoms' that are intended to represent the various areas of 'Fada-Insí' likely modeled after the ancient kingdoms of Ireland. While legally an absolute monarchy much like the ancient kingdoms of Ireland there are a series of councils and legislative bodies in place to allow for participation, making it a transitional semi-constitutional monarchy in practice. The most powerful body in Aynvaul is the Aíship, a High Council that governs through influence on the Impire, who serves as both Highest King (Irish: Ardrí mhór na Áinen) and Highest Druid (Irish: Draoi Ardrí na Áinen). The Power of the Aíship can also be checked by the other legislative bodies or High Parliament of the Aynvaul Micronation which consists of three 'Halls.'

As a micronation, Aynvaul was probably founded sometime in February 2006, based on material evidence perhaps dating back to autumn of 2005 or spring of 2006 when the first known flag was design by Gordon III and some classmates(such as The Glorious Banner). During it's early years it existed as a typical ceremonial backyard micronation consisting of friends representing their own countries with Gordon III being elected as a King of Kings by this now defunct body of preppers sometime in June 2006, which in its heyday had monthly Aynvaul Fire Parties, a type of céilí or Irish gathering. Gordon III has since remained 'Impire I Aynvaul' to this day. In 2019 Aynvaul became Long Island's oldest continuous extant micronation with the dissolving of Cesidio Tallini's micronations over the course of that year. Aynvaul, in addition to its Long Island status, is also the oldest active micronation in Southern New England on record.

Aynvaul notably does not offer any citizenship statuses, instead recognizes its people as denizens to a cultural identity that they may or may not be aware of, making accurate calculations rather difficult even to its own micronational organization. The Aynvaul Community, as a facebook group, however has about 40 members and its page has 111 likes and 128 followers... so a dubious estimate can be made from those numbers.

Many Aynvauls both affiliated with the micronation and not learn traditional crafts and skills, such as metalworking, farming/gardening, woodworking, and horse-riding, which would make them potentially financially adapted for societal collapses of the macrostate(s). The Aynvaul Micronation's land claims intended to be posthumously claimed, indicating that the micronation has no intention of being secessionist but rather a role play element unless the parent macrostate collapses similar to the MOCC.

In 2019, Aynvaul became Long Island's oldest continuous extant micronation. Aynvaul is also the oldest active micronation in Southern New England. The micronation was scheduled to attend the 2017 Microcon, with Impire Gordon III collecting the attendees' flag files for Grand Duchess Lydia, but was unable to attend for unknown reasons.

Etymology

Etymologically, 'Aynvaul' is an anglicization of the term of either 'An Bhaile' which translates as 'the home' or 'Aine Bhaile' which could translate as 'radiant home' or simply in honour of the ancient Irish goddess of the same name, curious however is that it could refer to some surviving dialectal continuation of Brooklyn Irish or even Scotch-Irish within some households as home language with the term being a folk memory. However this is difficult to prove and it probably extremely hopeful an assumption. With no material evidence to support a home Gaelic language of any sort surviving in Long island unlike with other sections of the Irish Diaspora, to date no written record nor reference or supporting evidence for this hypothesis has been found arguing in favour of the former origin. That's not to say it's impossible. In the case of the former is argued by some to be a corruption of the modern Irish 'An Baile', For whatever reason, the word was mutated to 'An bhail' and was later anglicized with bh becoming a v sounding as typical of the Munster Irish dialect which most Irish do descend from either Munster or Ulster origins. This perhaps would account for the inclusion of a double 'ee' sounding between the 'a' and the 'n'?

It is important to mention that officials in the micronation once argued there to of been an 'Old Aynvish' origin, as part of a greater foundation myth that is now, at least by the current Aísip, forgotten or dismissed.

Fadainysi

Outer Lands copy.jpg

Fadainysi is an informal term some Aynvauls use to refer to the terminal moraine islands directly south of New England of Long Island, Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Nantauket, the Nashawena Islands, the Cape Cod Penninsula, and every island inbetween. This archipelago doesn't normally have a colloquial name like this that geographically includes Long Island and Eastern Islands such as Martha's Vineyard and sometimes the Cape Cod peninsula outside of cartography circles. Making Fadainysi not only an Aynvallic name to describe what are otherwise called Outer Lands Region by surveyists, see [1] to understand the region's general boundaries, but also reflect a tie to the area's old naval heritage that has since largely been lost to most residents here.

Generally speaking however, when used the term is more a geographical term more than not as opposed to political distinctions such as Long Island, New York, and Nantucket, Massachusetts. So Fadainysi should be understood as a geographical term than political, interestingly it is also used as a name for the personification of the area when talking about ecological conservation. Ex. "Lady Fadainysi seems is healthy here where elsewhere she feels sick."

Current Administration - "The Second Gastracy"

Currently the Micronational Government of High Aynvaul, as some prefer it to be called now, is organized into what is called the 'Second Gastracy'. While functionally still an absolute monarchy, officially the keys of rule are divided more so into the Aísip as a governing body in general. With finalizing the 'scrolls of rule' or constitution as an official goal of the administration along with a formalized flow-chart in the event of a 'macro-state-apocalypse', and establishing a peaceful and pragmatic image of Aynvaul abroad.

Until recently the Second Gastracy was split between Pro-Assembly(or PoA) and Opposition-to-Assembly(or OtA) lines, with the Ota members holding office but abstaining on all issues on the grounds that until an evident threat of rapid decay of stability in the western societal collapse, there is no need commit to any duties.

In the days and weeks following 6 January 2021; when the distainable 'Capitol Riots' occurred in Washington, DC, USA; then Opposition-to-Assembly leader Ace Diplomat John Farley, conceded to the idea that the event while 'almost sparking' it was a piece of evidence in favor of an upcoming rapid stability decay event in the next few decades and voted for assembly preparations. More recently, Aidan Wah was appointed Ace Merchant, increasing the Aísip to a total of four, the largest it has been yet. The micronation now hosts seasonal moots for its Aísip.

History

Aynvallic history is chaotically split into two main sections, a Material Era (?-2010) and a Written or Attested History (2005–present) with Aynvaul's official intermicronational period starting in 2012.

Preattested Era:

Given Aynvaul having modern (Irish)Gaelic origins in lore and existing exclusively in North America, Aynvaul as an discernible idea simply can't exist before the 1800's as well as no mention in traditional Irish diaspora communities until long into Impire Gordon's reign it cannot be described as it's own identity even if in secret until the 1990's, if it did exist is would be a fringe part of the Irish American community to the area. This would give credence to the idea that Aynvaul history is Irish American History with an interest in being a Gaeltacht and aspirations of establishing their own identity.

A number of myths for Aynvaul's origin and speculative protohistory do exist, one is that a very small and secretive Gaelic or Shelta speaking subgroup either came over or existed within the developing Long Island Irish culture after the mass emigrations caused by "An gorta mór", or the great hunger in Ireland. This mythic 'history' is a popular target for Aynvallic 'dark' or grim satires, especially the great hunger, a topic that is often an uncomfortable one with other Irish diaspora groups. Many other unconfirmed stories and legends do exist of early Aynvallic history, which are from either not written or reliable previous sources, doesn't constitute as a true history but rather story telling. Of the mythical stories includes Aynvallic Fire Parties, said to have been barn sized and light in remote areas from the North American Spring, beginning in March, to the Late North American Summer, which ends in the late September. Also tales of Aynvallic Stake Toss, a sport that is still played by the Aynvaul Nation and exists as a national sport. As such this era is sometimes humorously called the Aynvallic Mythic Era.

The Late Prewritten Era or early Gordonian Era for Aynvaul 1990's-2010 is, unlike the rest of Preattested Aynvallic History is cernible with the first in-possession material dating back to 2006. It includes the birth of who would become Impire Gordon RC Gray III, the influences on his life and eventual establishment of the protomicronation(2005-2006) that would evolve into the Aynvaul Imperial Government by 2010 that until then was not operated openly but is the origin point of many Aynvaul micronational traditions such as the Imperial Flag style, The concept of Gastracy, and much more.

The Micronational Era:

The Micronational Period is separated into three sub-segments. The first being the before mentioned shot-lived First Gastronic Period, the second being the Absolute Monarchic Period(Dec 2012-Nov 2018), and the current segment the Second Gastronic Period.

The Micronational Era is the Second section of Aynvallic history that begins with transition of the protomicronation to the modern Aynvaul Imperial Government during the year 2010-2011.

The Resignation of the First Council and reconsideration on what Aynvaul shall be leading to the Aynvaul Imperial Government's official establishment in it's new form on February 27, 2012 as far as the intermicronational community is concerned. First reaching out to Molossia shortly there after and eventually expanding it's relationship with other micronations the following year such as Lostisland and Uantir. Of which it maintained good relations for the entirety of the First Gastracy and the following Absolute Monarchic Period. Of which the First Gastracy lasted for a period of about 11 months(Jan-Nov). This timeframe is marked with an Imperial Gastronic government, complete with an Aceship until November 2012, but claimed to still be an Imperial Gastracy until the end of November 2012, when the Imperial Gastracy was officially abolished due to no Aynvauls willing to take the title for the new celtic year, making it officially an Absolute Monarchy and marking the start of the First Absolute Monarchy in Aynvaul.

In late June 2014, the Impire began to personally send out renewals to all contacts Aynvaul had in the past, some of which were renewed but it was at this point many Aynvauls began to find foreign relations for Aynvaul not necessary for Aynvaul at the time and the Diplomatic Ministry became inactive with the only activity to-speak-off being from the infrequent checks from the Impire or those with privileges to the email account, a practice that continues to this day. On Samhain of 2017, Impire Gordon III finished the first draft of Aynvaul's Constitution in the form of scrolls, however these remained as an unofficial draft until Sir Daniel Altoonian was appointed the new Ace General the following month when the two agreed that more people would be needed to warrant an constitution. The two agreed that the Gastracy needed to be restored to help the Impire draft such a thing at the very least, Sir Daniel Altoonian was appointed Ace General by Impire Gordon III on Imbolc 2018 and the Ace Diplomat was nominally filled by Jack Farley the following Summer. Effectively establishing a second Gastracy.

On May 3, 2018, the Aceship recommended that Aynvaul maintain relations with a smaller group of micronations(such as the MOCC) and focus on restructuring itself to encourage more local interest and keep things informal with others. To which Impire Gordon III made official and declared the Internal Focus. That Aynvaul will reinvent itself to restore interest in the Imperial Government before addressing its intermicronational image.

Government and politics

Once an Imperial Gastracy, an Imperial government that appoints an Aceship advisory to help process issues, the Aynvaul Imperial Government became an Absolute Monarchy on November 30, 2012(30/11/2012) as a result from the stepping down of the then Ace Diplomat Mike Castor and the position being unable to be filled. The highest possible title in the Aynvaul Imperial Government is the Impire, which means King of Kings, bellow him are the Rís. Although an absolute monarchy, due to a low population and lack of interest, the Impire acts as a Constitutional Monarchy going by an unwritten constitution, despite the current vacant Aceship and Parliament.

Although inactive, the Aynvaul Imperial Government has a system that it is supposed to push all things go through. It has a hierarchy of Kingdoms, big and small, and a set of laws that rely on the presence of tribes for balanced functionality. Migrations of said tribes and the base power of those tribes influence the kingdoms these tribes emigrate and immigrate to and fro. Each kingdom has a capitol tribe rather than a capitol city. For example the Imperial tribe or primary Aynvish tribe is the Ainnegi, however a tribe such as the Kaisii are de-jure vassals of the Kingdom of Aynvaul and are subject to the laws of the Imperial Government, the Kingdom of Aynvaul, but instead of being vassals of the Ainnegi, the Chieftain of the Kaisii's title has its own jurisdiction rather than within the jurisdiction of the Ainnegi tribe.

The Ris, or Kings, are the second most powerful lone titles, it is also the most diverse. , or very commonly ríg (genitive), is an ancient Gaelic word meaning "king".[1] It is used in historical texts referring to the Irish and Scottish kings, and those of similar rank. While the Modern Irish word is exactly the same,[2] in modern Scottish Gaelic it is rìgh,[3] apparently derived from the genitive. Cognates include Gaulish Rix, Latin rex/regis, Sanskrit raja, and German Reich. A rí benn (king of peaks), or ri tuaithe (king of a single tribe) was most commonly a local petty king of a single túath, although "one" túath might be many times the size of another. There are generally estimated to have been between 100 and 150 in Ireland, depending on who really qualified. Importantly, in theory every king of a superior grade was also a ri benn himself, and exercised no direct compulsory legal authority outside his own ancestral túath. A ri buiden (king of bands), also ri tuath (king of [many] tribes) or ruiri (overking), was a regional king to whom several rí benn were subordinate, and often other territories. He was in some sense still a petty king, but could also achieve provincial-level prominence, including, although rarely, the provincial kingship, and was often fully sovereign in any case. Depending on who was counted, there may have been as many as 20 genuine ruiri in Ireland at any time. A "king of over-kings", a rí ruirech was often a provincial (rí cóicid) or semi-provincial king to whom several ruiri were subordinate. They were also referred to as ri bunaid cach cinn ("ultimate king of every individual") Several kingdoms belonging to the 1st and 2nd millennia are listed below, but do not all belong to the same periods. No more than six genuine rí ruirech were ever contemporary, with the average being three or four. Originally, there were only four provinces, at least according to legend (see the Táin Bó Cúailnge, the actual text thereof). Ard Rí, high king, is the highest possible Rí title in the Aynvaul Imperial Government.

The Aceship, the Gastronic factor in the Imperial Government, includes a body of Aces or Ace Advisers appointed by the Impire to both advise in his/her field and to enact the Impire's will in the field they are appointed to. An Ace may not be required to attend an Aynvish Parliament they are free to show and even vote on discussions, just not their own. In the existence of the Aynvaul Imperial Government there has only been two appointed fields which are the traditonal two, the Ace Diplomat and the Ace General. Though other fields such as Treasurer can and could exist in the future.

The Royal family can also play a part in politics depending on their relation to the Impire. Although not yet official, the Impire's brother, Eric, was declared the current heir to the Aynvish thrown. Ensuring that the 'Gray Dynasty' not be limited to a single Impire.

Incorporated Kingdoms

The Micronational Government has several incorporated kingdoms each elevated to kingdoms instead of duchies to signify their integral importance to the central government as a whole, it is these kingdoms that by default elevates the High Government to being considered an 'Empire' for other micronations. The incorporated kingdoms represent distinct communities. With Aynvaul holding a defacto hegemony, hence 'High Aynvaul'. Among these incorporation kingdoms and duchies in Western Fadainisi are in order from north-west to south-east are the Kingdom of Brúclín, the Kingdom of Oístéirel, the Kingdom of Aynvaul, the Kingdom of Caissíeg, the Kingdom of Corámshír, the Kingdom of Halbhaul-Saíbhaul, the Kingdom of the Ceannhabhann, the Kingdom of Áiteannathuadh, the Kingdom of the Shinnecock*, the Kingdom of the Montauk. The Kingdom of the Shinnecock should be noted as a Kingdom set aside for the Shinnecock nation and their communities, this Kingdom and nation isn't incorporated but is rather a region claimed on behalf of the Shinnecock to form their own, this region would better be regarded as the recognized extent the Shinnecock nation would have under federation with Aynvaul, it's extent would include most of the traditional territories of the Shinnecock east of with the addition of territory eastward up to Geogrica Pond roughly speaking. In the Eastern half of the archipelago past Block island which is in the domain of the Kingdom of Montauk, "Eastern Fadainysi" has no official incorporated kingdoms, however each community here would have community based representation within parliament despite not being part of any incorporated kingdom.

Caissic Ogham

Caissic Ogham, and it's older 'Kaisii Ogham' refers to an Ogham system of 45 or so characters that the Imperial Government as well as the Impire uses in some everyday documents. It used to use a grammar system that often switched the l, f, s, n consonants with the d, t, c, q consonants for what was likely a cant purpose. This practice is now rare in Kaisii's modern Caissic counterpart, but may be seen in some Caissic poetry in its primordial stage. The extra characters serve a purpose of flexibility to allow the alphabet to be written in Non-Celtic languages comfortably, most often in North Eastern American English the native language of the majority of its users. But the characters also behave very Celtic, such as the behavior of the 'c' character to which it never produces an 's' sounding as it's Latin equivalent does. Also of note is the separate 'k' character usually used in names but also is used as a stronger 'k' soundings such as the 'k' sounding in the Greek pronunciation of 'Makedon'.

Law and order

Since the Ainnegi(Imperial Tribe), does not have land in which it holds to administer, enforcement outside the government has been deemed vastly unnecessary. However within the government itself, there is an system of unwritten policies the Aynvaul Imperial Government should follow, policies the Impire hopes to be converted into a written constitution. Until then, the Imperial Government goes by the Impire's unwritten constitution.

Foreign Relations

As a de-facto micronation, Aynvaul has held many relations with other organizations that are also considered micronations. However Aynvaul is rather notorious for its reclusive status. Presently... only the MOCC, Ruritania, and Lostisland are believed to be the only reliable sources of contact with Aynvaul diplomatic representatives. Here is a brief list of Aynvaul's diplomatic history. Representatives were scheduled to attend Microcon 2017, but appear of of been unable to attend.

Military

Other than a collection of hobby strategists and self-declared mercenaries, Aynvaul has no trained military, for reasons of convenience. There simply is no need, unlike the MOCC which has multiple groves it protects and runs, Aynvaul operates no landed temples and exists largely in the titular sense.

Geography and climate

Fadainysi, or the Outer Lands forms the insular northeasternmost extension of North America's Atlantic coastal plain. The islands of the Outer Lands were formed by the effect of the recession of the Laurentide ice sheet during the Wisconsin glaciation.[4]

See Climate of Long Island, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard.

Economy

Currently the Aynvaul Imperial Government does not have it's own currency, and many Aynvauls use US dollars in all currency transactions otherwise. And with no land for such coin to be legal tender in, there currently is no reason for the AIG to create one otherwise. Though despite this, the AIG is attempting to create an Aynvish Coin to promote culture. Although, much like its parent American Irish culture, many Aynvauls are willing to barter in absence of currency, a practice that can be traced back to Ireland and other Celtic lands. Otherwise they rely heavily on the US and local Economy.

Mondachry

Mondachtry is an Ainnegic-born theological sect of Celtic Paganism that developed earlier on as a philosophy. A key difference from it and other 'neo-pagans' is its attempts at reconstruction and adapting the Celtic Castes with emphasis on the path one becomes a druid. Under Mondach doctrine, someone is not officially a Druid unless they have undergone a 20-year long trial of learning, the medium of learning being irrelevant so as long as said person can be deemed highly credible and trustworthy in advice. Much like a doctor is a long and vigorous path in western society, a Druid is a title that must be earned and worked hard for under Mondach teaching. Mondachtry does have a head of the sect called the Impire, one who acts as a cultural head of and as a bridge between the tribal ArdRí(and other Rí) and the Mondach Druí(and other priests). This belief was/is also reflected in the Aynvallic micronation in the 'Gastracy' with the Ace General(ArdRí) and Ace Diplomat(ArdDruí). Mondachtry as a religion that stresses one's relationship with the divine as entirely personal and a choice, is by default polytheistic.

Mondachtry also puts emphasis on the Fey Faith, or one's relationship with the fairies, some going as far as restoring worship of the Aos Sí as local divines/gods. Unlike other 'neo-celtic-pagan' movements/sects, Mondachtry does not descend directly from the Wicca-Druidtry movement, and it's practitioners consider Mondachtry a movement of it's own. However it has unquestionable been indirectly influenced by Wicca via Aynvaul's relationship with the MOCC. The religion should largely be considered a sister revivalist; or revertist depending on your attitude towards paganism; to modern druidism and not as the same thing.

Mondachtry as a religion, although technically the state religion of Aynvaul, is not enforced nor mandatory, but is largely practiced in state policy.

Culture

Aynvallic, or Ainnegic, culture is a North American Irish culture that is distinguished from common North American Irish largely by its usage of Caissic Ogham. Aynvauls have a special appreciation for bonfires, with some hosting large ones in pits the size of bathtubs to car sized ones. It is hoped that someday Aynvauls will have an dialect of their own to help distinguish them from other groups living in North America.

Some Prided Aynvauls will occasionally engrave a version or variant of the Aynvaul Crest into a wooden plate(usually cut right from firewood) and place that to display on either a wall or fireplace. Aynvaullic Culture itself, notably respects and honors older trees, believing the older ones might have a fairy living in them.

Receltification

Kingdom Aynvaul 500px.png Current Kingdom and Cultural flag of Aynvaul

Re-celtification is the current focus of the Impire and the Mondach circle(s) in recent years, focusing primarily by encouraging the learning and speaking of Irish Gaelic or even the development of a new Gaelic unique to the Fadaínísi. Caissic Ogham is the front and 'poster-child' of re-celtification attempts, and it is argued some of it's users that Caissic Ogham is a useful tool in learning Irish for older English speaking North American Irishfolk wishing to learn Irish but never learned it growing up. Though usage of this 'tool' will likely result in a unique dialect of Irish, something that a restored Irish tongue on the other side of the Atlantic would likely result in anyway given time; Much like how Gaelic spoken in Scotland, Newfoundland, and the Isle of Man already have resulted in new languages since their arrival. However this may be a good thing to encourage local Gaelic nationalism and revival, much as it already has/in the process of in Newfoundland with Newfoundland Gaelic.

Media

Outside of the occasional website, the Aynvaul Imperial Government is largely inactive in media and usually keeps to itself.

Despite this illusiveness, Aynvaul may have been briefly cited in a few works of literature compiled by other micronationalists such as Cesidio Tallini.
