The Battle of Williamsburg also called the Battle of New Augustine was a dubious battle between the Empire of Etukan and the Grand Kingdom of Matachewan. The battle occurred on 7 March 2020 within the Duchy of New Augustine and resulted in its secession from Matachewan.

Procedure

A visual representation of the unsuccessful initial assault on the Delaware Division by Matachewanian forces. Provided by the Etukara Ministry of Defense circa August 2021.

Following the conflict created by Matachewan withdrawing from the Matachewanian-Etukan agreement, both nations coincidentally found themselves unexpectedly close to each other despite being located within Canada and Australia respectively. Etukan took the opportunity to invite Matachewan to a battle, something which the King of Matachewan openly and strongly supported whether they were going to win or lose; the Duke of New Augustine however, did not. He met the Etukara in New Castle Country Wrangle Hill Estate Park in Williamsburg within the Duchy of New Augustine. Unprepared, the Matachewanian side are said to have engaged the fight, however, they found themselves severely outplayed and retreated afterward.

Throughout the prelude and occurrence of the engagement, neither side is believed nor is proven to have had any relative control over what was going on , there having been no decisive sources to confirm the event. The situational reality was the emperor and government of Etukan, so well as the king of Matachewan, both parties having made acknowledgements of individuals with which neither side had any physical contact but who between themselves were coincidentally close, who, armed at their own initiative were encouraged to duke it out for reasons in retrospect unclear, but likely in pursuance of asserting some form of dominance.

Consequences

Shortly after the decisive loss, the reports of the battle were given to the Premier of Global Affairs and King of Matachewan. The country, though in confusion of the actual surroundings of the event, celebrated despite being defeated. Being a pacifist, Frederick argued with the Premier and King on several occasions about Matachewan refusing to negotiate. Frederick and the rest of the soldiers who fought at Williamsburg refused to be awarded the Cross of St. Augustine by the King in protest. In the heat of discussion, King Brandon told the Duke to leave the country to its own affairs and take New Augustine with him and secede. Prior to the argument, a referendum had already commenced in New Augustine to do so due to the ongoings of conflict both external and now internal, as well as the suggestion by King Brandon that they should militarily keep going, in essence being toyed around. The majority was in favor of leaving Matachewan. The Matachewanian government expressed agreeance with that decision and thus New Augustine seceded shortly.
