A colonel is the most senior commissioned officer of the Baustralian Armed Forces before the general officers, more specifically, the Baustralian Army. It outranks a lieutenant colonel of the army, a commander of the navy, and a wing commander of the air force. Its equivalent is a captain of the navy, and a group captain of the air force. It is outranked by a brigadier of the army, a commodore of the navy, and a air commodore of the air force.

The duties of a colonel are to command large scale regiments, such as the King's Grenadiers.

Insignia

Insignia of a Colonel on the peaked cap is a sprig of oak on the outward edge of the peak. On the service hat, it is a thick gold strap. The cap badge is of the regiment he belongs to. Four rows of buttons are worn on the tunic. The rank insignia is two “pips”, that is small Order of the Gadus stars, and a crown.
