The Constitution of the Åland State is the supreme law of the Åland State. Comprimising of 6 Articles, it delineates the national frame, constraints of government, territory, amendments, national symbols and administrative regions. The Constitution's 6 Articles embody the doctrine of the government powers. Article 1 states the territories of the Åland State and their independance day. Article 2 describes the rights and responsibilities of the president, vice president, parliament and supreme court. Article 3 describes the foreign policy and internal policy of the Åland State. Article 4 describes how the country will be broken up into smaller administrative regions and how the governors should govern. Article 5 establishes the flag and what colours it has and all of the other national symbols. And the last article, Article 6 escribes how you could ammend the constitution.

Articles

Article 1

Article 1 states the independance day (December 15 2023) and the territory of the Åland State. The territory is the former land of the French Republic.

Article 2

Article 2 states how the government should be run. The government is led by the president who is also the chief of defense. The president is responsible for forming alliances, going to war, forming trade deals and more but parliament can veto it. The head of state can also make any laws or acts but can also be vetoed by parliament. The president can sign executive orders that parliament can not veto. There will be an election every year on 28 February. Parliament can also make any laws and acts. Parliament can have an emergency vote to veto any wars declared by the president. The judicial system is lead by the supreme court of the Åland State and the chief of justice who follow the laws set in the law book of the Åland State. The president also chooses his cabinet.

Article 3

Article 3 describes the foreign policy and internal policy of the Åland State. Parliament and the president vote for alliances and trade deals.

Article 4

Article 4 states how administrative regions are governed by governors and that they have to follow the laws set by the president. Governors can also make their own policies for their municipality.

Article 5

Article 5 states all of the national symbols of the Åland State, mainly the flag.

Article 6

Article 6 states how you can amend the consitution only if the president and vice president both agree, then the amendment will pass.

History

The first draft of the constitution was signed on 30 January 2024 after Axel Himberg decided ti instead of using 5 acts to describe the Åland States government. The act system that was planned was cancelled leading to the suspension of the 2024 Åland State anti-LGBT act. The first draft of the constitution was very small. On 14 February 2024 Himberg signed the second draft of the constitution with more information on how the government should be run.
