Culture in Shoreline, New Virginia is heavily eclectic, but is primarily influenced by 'Hippie Culture', especially that developed by the Deadheads of the late 60's to the mid 90's. New England culture influences Shorelinian culture to a degree, as Shoreline is entirely surrounded by the New England Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Shorelinians put their focus into the slow, organic growth of culture, and reject the use of 'historical micronationalism' as a method of developing culture.

Music

The Grateful Dead in the late 1970s

Central to Shorelinian culture is music. Much of Shorelines culture is built around the music Shorelinians enjoy, as well as the 'scenes' that develop around certain artists. Most prevalent among the artists Shorelinians listen to are the Grateful Dead and Phish. Since 2018, the music and culture of the Jam Band scene have been major influences in Shorelian life. These bands, who focus on improvisational, spontaneous creation are typically viewed as bands falling into the general hippie genre. The focus on improvisation, spontaneity, and freedom have influenced Shorelinian morality and social views. Similarly, the fashion sense of the 60's and the music festival scene emerged as primary cultural dress in Shoreline around 2018.

Many minor jam bands are popular in Shoreline, particularly Twiddle and Goose, both popular New England bands. However, the music of Shoreline is not limited purely to jam bands. In recent years, particularly since the addition of the village of Paddoc to Shoreline, hip hop and punk music have become popular. Notably hip hop artists like Dax and Post Malone, as well as rapper and singer-guitar player Machine Gun Kelly. Since the expansion of Shoreline into Paddoc, the previous hegemony of jam band music in Shorelinian culture has been challenged by a new wave of musical appreciation, which has continued to influence the culture.

Several other artists and genres are popularly listened to in Shoreline, and music continues to be the main influence on Shorelinian culture.

Religion

Symbol of the Church of the Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion

The Church of the Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion is the biggest influence on Shorelinian religious life, with the Church being founded in Shoreline (Then Terentia, a town of Austenasia. The Church focuses on the relationship between music and the divine. For several years the Church had a primary focus on the spiritual nature of the music of the Grateful Dead, Phish, and other such bands. As such, the Church has largely influenced the cultural life of New Virginia, with many people falling, officially or unofficially, into the theology that the Church professes.

The Church is commonly understood to be a Shorelinian instutition, despite it's expansion into other places, with notably the Constitution of New Virginia referring to the Church as the 'Shorelinian Deadhead Church'. Shorelinians pride themselves on religious eclecticism and openness.

Macronationally, most Shorelinians proclaim themselves to be of Christian origin, primarily from the Roman Catholic Church and the Episcopal Church. At certain points in Shorelinian history, Islam and Taoism were both present as practiced faiths within the city.
