The Austral Republic is located in the Southern Indian Ocean on the Kerguelen Islands as well as other islands throughout the region. Currently the territory is claimed and controlled by France, South Africa, and Australia but the Austral Republic has plans to take control of the territory in the near future.
Etymology
The Austral Republic's name is based off of the Latin word 'Austral' meaning Southern and relating to the southern hemisphere
History
The Austral Republic's origins date back to 2020 when The current president started to develop an idea of a new nation known then as the Austral Territories.
The president became aware of the notion of micronations and sovereign states some time before 2020 but the events of 2020 caused him to start to seriously think about implementing such an idea. After much time spent studying different potential locations around the world, he settled on the French territory of the Kerguelen Islands as well as other islands scattered throughout the southern Indian ocean. To most it looks like a barren useless land, but to the president it was a diamond in the rough. With his background in permaculture and understanding of geothermal systems, he pictured a rejuvenated land pioneered with hardy plant and animal species and settlements heated and powered by the vast geothermal system known as the Kerguelen Hot Spot. A sort of new and improved Iceland!
As of 2024 the president is working on developing the structuring of the nation including it's laws, politics, and constitution.
Politics and government
President
The president of the Austral Territory serves as the leader of our country and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the Austral Republic.
the Founding father and current president of the Austral Republic is Jake Griffith who will be serving a life term. Subsequent presidents will serve four year terms with no term limits.
Vice President
The Vice President of the Austral Republic is selected by the president to serve as his Advisor and right hand man. the Vice President's position lasts as long as the President is still serving a term or if the President wishes to select a different vice president.
A vice president has not yet been selected by the current President.
National Assembly
The National Assembly of the Austral Republic is in charge of adopting constitutional and federal laws.
Political parties
currently there are no active political parties identified within the Austral Republic.
Law and order
The supreme Court of the Austral Republic functions as the guardian of the Constitution as well as ensuring the citizens fair and equal justice.
Military
The armed forces of the Austral Republic currently consist of two branches: The navy and the militia
The Austral Republic Navy patrols the territorial waters of the nation and serves as the primary armed forces of the country. (note: the navy has not been established yet)
Militia
the militia consists of all able bodied males between the ages of 18 and 35. The militia will serve as the primary armed forces of the Austral Republic until the navy is established.
Arsenal
Currently the ever expanding arsenal contains one assault rifle, one service pistol, and four battle rifles.

Foreign relations
The Austral Republic has not been recognized, nor has recognized any other micronations at this time. once our dispute with France over our territory is settled, we will reach out to the macronations of Russia and Argentina to attempt to establish relations

Geography and climate
The geography and climate varies among the islands of the Austral Republic but is generally subantarctic with cool wet summers and cold but not freezing winters. Comparable places would be the Falkland Islands and Iceland. Snow can happen at any time of the year but tends not to last long in the summer. All islands are remnants of volcanic activity and are very rugged with some having glaciers and icecaps. The Kerguelen islands in particular have evidence of geothermal activity in the form of hot springs and fumaroles. the government will be investigating Geothermal resources on the other islands as well.
Economy
The Austral Republic does not currently have a functioning economy but it is presumed that once up and running, the economy will be made up of fishing, farming, and antarctic tourism.
Culture
The Austral Republic prides itself in promoting traditional values amongst its population. "Traditional values are the moral and ethical principles which are held to promote the sound functioning of the family and to strengthen the fabric of society. For example, they include faith, honesty, duty, respect and integrity. Traditional values are universal and timeless" (quote from the Verity Folk School)
To help preserve our values, we only recognize and promote Christianity (including all branches) within our nation.
Our official Language is English with Spanish and Russian languages being recognized within our nation due to the influence from Russia, Argentina, and El Salvador.
