The Kingdom of Awinodze, more commonly known as Awinodze, is a micronation in The United States of America. The official formation of the entity as a distinct nationality occurred on March 31st, 2018. The Head of State, King Tarquin known in Awinoan as Darakuwimo, announced his exclusive intention to form a governmental organization for the descendants of the Early European Farmers. King Tarquin traces his lineage back to an Etruscan warrior also named Tarquin who lived in the year 1172 BC. Originally located in Eastern Pennsylvania before relocating to Southern Utah, the crown holdings were eventually sold and the royal family relocated a third time to South Carolina where new, more arable, land was purchased. The movement of national borders resulted in a total territorial decrease of 0.35 Acres.

The Kingdom of Awinodze is often described as a Absolute Monarchy however, the king has declared the right of his people to draw up a constitution of rights and form a bicameral legislature known as a Senate. The upper house, or Noble House, will consist of members of the Nobility chosen by popular vote taken every 3 years by the Nobility. The lower house, or the House of the People, consists of randomly assigned citizens chosen once a year. Both houses may contain a maximum of 100 representatives and both houses must contain an equal number of representatives.

Currently, the Kingdom of Awinodze has formed no political relationships with any other political entity. A formal announcement from the king stated that the Kindom of Awinodze will recognize other micronations with a substantiated claim to territorial acquisition. The people of Awinodze seem to be at a loss as to the meaning of his words however, Awinoan scholars are generally agreed that any documentation showing current ownership of property will be accepted by the king as a territorial claim.

Etymology

The full name of the Kingdom of Awinodze can be approximated as Kamidzae Awinodze which roughly translated from Awinoan means, "Our place with the king." The word Awinodze itself meaning, "Our place."

History

The history of Awinodze is commonly traced back to the legendary Etruscan warrior Tarquin. The legend states that during a battle with the warriors from a nearby city, Tarquin was seemingly fatally injured. He then saw the image of a silver birch, which did not grow in the region, and the silver birch spoke to him in his own voice. It told him to lay down his weapons and take his family into the mountains to live in isolation. Miraculously, he survived his injuries and afterwards took his family into the mountains. Upon finding a single birch tree growing on a hill, he built a house and settled his family high in the mountains. After many generations, a storm caused lightning to strike the birch tree and one of his descendants took this as a sign from the gods to go down from the mountains. This man was able to join the roman military and it is through him that further descent would occur.

Mythology of the Awinoan People

The legend of how Awinoans came to be what they are today involves a constant repetition of waxing and waning power. The story is that the Roman soldier descended from Tarquin gave birth to three sons. The eldest was Titus, the middle son was Renatus, the youngest was Claudius. Titus rebelled from his father at a young age and immediately left home. Renatus did exactly as he was told by his father but, was a weak and cowardly man and a known liar. Claudius tried to keep the peace but, he had an unusually dim mind and was unable to accomplish much. Two years after he left, Titus returned. He demanded his father admit that he had been wrong and ask him for forgiveness. The father refused. It is said that this is when the Awinoan language first came into being. Titus had developed it for mystical reasons while traveling abroad.

Titus returned to his journeys. He felt as though an unseen hand was pressing on his back to keep moving forward. Titus traveled as far east as he could to a strange foreign land. There he traded things from Rome before sailing across the sea. On an island, he met a beautiful woman and fell in love. They married and for two generations the family stayed put. The language and the people adapting new ideas and words from this new land.

Example of Old Awinoan Script

A grandson of Titus, whose name was Tsaiyomgoka, developed the first written form of Awinoan. Few inscriptions remain. He also convinced his many cousins to do as his grandfather had done and travel to new lands. They traveled north and west to a land that they called Hozuka. There they blended their people with a local village and began to intermingle as their grandfather had done before them. After some generations, a descendant of Tsaiyomgoka became the leader of the village. He was a cruel man and instituted many changes. He banned the use of the Awinoan script in favor of using Chinese characters. He instituted linguistic reforms. He didn't allow villagers to travel abroad, marry without permission, carry weapons, or conduct any form of business without explicit consent.

Example of Early Middle Awinoan Script

All of these "reforms" began to weaken the village and a nearby warlord saw the opportunity to take land. The weaponless, hungry, and downtrodden villagers were quickly overrun by the well-fed warriors sent by the warlord. The village was burned to the ground and almost all of the people were killed. The village leader's only son, Daridagoka, had run away. Like his ancestor Titus, Daridagoka rebelled against his father. He had taken what inscriptions of the old Awinoan alphabet he could find and had fled further north and west. It was Daridagoka who created what came to be known as the Early Middle Awinoan Script. It was a syllabary that had been inspired by the Old Awinoan Script.

Daridagoka met and joined a group of hunters during his travels and was adopted into their tribe. For several generations the tribe lived in relative peace. Only occasional small disagreements with nearby tribes caused any sort of discord. However, as seemed to be the case for this lineage, the peace would not last. Daridagoka's great-grandson, Gorozogoka, was hunting when the village was burned and the men were all killed. A band of Turkic warriors had raided the village and taken the women and children hostage. Gorozogoka chased them south into the Caucasus Mountains. As he followed the warriors, he found several bodies of the women and children of his village. After coming upon the warriors, he began a guerrilla campaign against the men who had kidnapped and slain his fellow villagers. For two weeks in the mountains, he slowly killed the warriors until only a few were left. The few remaining warriors fled in the night.

Modern History

In more recent and verifiable history, King Tarquin traces his lineage back to a man named Konrad who was born in Darmstadt in the year 1623. Konrad was renowned for his skill at building wagons and was horrified by his experience growing up during the Thirty Years' War. He vowed that his family would become pacifists and aided in his grandson's emigration to the Russian Empire which promised free land and freedom from conscription. Living as farmers on the Russian steppe, the family would again move when these freedoms were later revoked several generations later. In 1910 Johann would travel to New York before moving his family to Colorado which would lead a few generations later to the birth of King Tarquin in Jacksonville, Florida in the year 1988.

During the spring of 2018, King Tarquin submitted to genetic testing. Discovering his relation to a people that had suffered a massive prehistoric holocaust, he made the decision on March 31st, 2018 to declare the reformation of a national identity for the people he had descended from. During this time, the king attempted to form a Social-Democracy with a planned economy and high levels of union participation. Unfortunately, there was a falling out within the royal family and his sister, who currently lives in exile, banished him from her castle. This dealt a heavy blow to the royal movement as she is known to be a shrewd businesswoman and an excellent legal analyst.

The king then attempted to establish the same form of government under the direction of his other sister, however; several assassination attempts were made on his life and he was forced to flee to the west. Before fleeing, he was able to acquire a land grant for land in Beryl, Utah. This land is still believed to harbor a royal artifact. Further land was acquired after his marriage to the queen and the total territory was extended to a maximum of 0.0037 sq. mi. At this point, the form of government was altered to become a Social-Democratic-Republic with an expansive system of representation. During this time, the Awinoan Civil War took place. After the birth of Princess Melody at the end of the civil war, the royal family, seeking more productive land, sold their claims in Utah and dissolved the government. Then they moved to South Carolina and acquiring new land, the government was reformed once again to take the current form of a Limited Monarchy with a Bicameral Legislature and Planned Economy.

Politics and government

The Kingdom of Awinodze is a Limited Monarchy. The King retains the executive power to veto legislation and to put forward legislation for review by both houses of the Senate. The Senate is divided into two houses. The upper house or the Noble house contain members of the Nobility and is responsible for voting on and submitting legislation for final review from the king. The lower house or the House of the People contain members of the general public and is also responsible for voting on legislation. Legislation approved by the lower house is submitted to the upper house. If the upper house votes against legislature submitted by the lower house, the lower house has the option to amend the legislation and resubmit it to the upper house or to pass by 3/4ths majority a resolution to submit the legislature directly to the king for approval.

Early government

The original form of government was a Social-Democracy which was the main form of government during the time when it was enacted in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania until the kings exile to the west.

After the acquisition of royal lands in Utah, the government that was instituted was a Social-Democratic-Republic. The government was required to redistribute taxes back to the citizens whenever there was a surplus. 5 citizens could register to elect one of their members as a representative and those representatives could form a group of 5 representatives and elect a representative of themselves. This system would propagate up to higher and higher levels with each level having an ability to make greater changes. This government was deemed untenable and led to a civil war sparked by a military coup led by the king and his royal supporters. In the aftermath of the Awinoan Civil War, the government was dissolved.

Political parties

The three main parties that dominate Awinoan politics are; The Communist Workers Party of the Kingdom of Awinodze, The Awinoan Christian-Democrats, and the Libertarian Party of Awinodze. The Communist party tends to be less influential but, does pull the House of Nobility slightly further to the left. While the Libertarians pull the House of the People from Center-Left to Center-Right. The main and most influential party is the Awinoan Christian-Democrats who have representation in both houses and who keep the nation as a whole more Center-Left.

Law and order

The police force of Awinodze is known officially as Anze Notutawi though most people simply call them the Anzawi. Currently, the Kingdom of Awinodze is suffering from high levels of corruption due to the presence of an organized crime family known as Kaihawinomo or in English, "Our little business." Violent crimes are rare however, and most citizens live free from the direct effects of crime.

Military

As a possession of the United States of America, The Kingdom of Awinodze defers to the US Military for all international defense. The king maintains a small group of soldiers trained as a royal defense force. They are known as Anze Nokamidzae or colloquially as Anzekami which in English means, "Defenders of the King." The military had previously had a heavy presence in the Awinodze, however; after the civil war the king decided to reinstate the government with a limited defense force.

Economy

Typical small lavender plot being prepared at local farm.

Agriculture in Awinodze consists mainly of Einkorn Wheat, Lavender, Blueberry, Grape, and Tomato production. Eggs, chicken meat, and pork are all also produced and consumed within the kingdom. There has been some debate about rice production in recent years however, the Agricultural Department of Awinodze (ADA) has not made any final decision on promotion of this type of grain.

Industry mostly involves food manufacturing. Bread, Jams, Tomato Sauces, and Blueberry Jams and Jellies, are the main industrial outputs. The Idylla Corporation, a powerful zaibatsu style corporation owned by Sir Daret J. Caldwell, also produces a ready to eat egg wrap. Egg wraps are common in Awinodze and are often filled with cheese and a vegetable. IdyllaCorp has seen shrinking market shares due mainly to competition with the Wagner Social Corporation. Majority shares of Wagner Social Inc. are held by King Tarquin himself.

Wagner Social was initially involved in plastics manufacturing but, has since transitioned into the area of fiber optic equipment and supplies. Through the transportation division of Wagner Social, the company was able to pivot industries by phasing out and liquidating the plastics division while simultaneously growing the new fiber optic division. This has brought far more growth to Wagner Social. Wagner Social also still maintains a small but, significant food production company. They mainly produce frozen meals (frozen packaged Arati) and confectionary treats (Lime flavored pizzelles under the brand name Lizzelle).

Art and the Service sector are young and growing areas of industry. Art, Film, Literature, and Video Games are all part of the Economic Department of Awinodze's main program known as Wasasakamo, WSM or in English, "Culture Creation Program". Areas involved in the service sector are, Internet Technologies and Finance. There has also been some recent development in the Architectural, Chemical, and Biology industries.

Culture

Awinoans have traditionally been characterized by introversion, reflection, and a strong desire to build things. Linguistically, the sole official language of the Kingdom of Awinodze is Awinoan. Awinoan is a language isolate that is highly agglutinative with a strong vocabulary influence from the national languages of Awinodze. Beginning in March 2023, only a few inscriptions had been produced in the language. The Awinoan scholars began creating a more suitable writing system than the traditionally used Latin script. In November 2023, the scholars released the script and the first official use of it was the publication of the king's short stories.

Literature and Art

The King's Book

The majority of literature in Awinodze has been produced in English, however; King Tarquin has published a collection of short stories in Awinoan titled, "Tudorogoka Nona Komadze" which in English can be translated as, "Road to see the Mountain." Awinodze's most prolific writer is Sir Daret J. Caldwell but, most of his works are held in private estate.

Art consists mostly of photography, cinema, and painting in the form of watercolor. Comics have been making headway recently with the series known as, "Pezahawinodze" a coming of age story about a boy who feels alienated from the world.

Example of Awinoan Photography

Photography is heavily regulated in the Kingdom of Awinodze. By royal decree no image taken as a photo may be displayed as a form of art in any museum or classroom unless it was taken with traditional film. In Awinodze the negative, or positive if using color-reversal/slide film, is nearly as important as the photograph itself. As for the older more traditional forms of art such as painting; watercolor, a painting method in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water-based solution, is the most common form of painting in the Kingdom of Awinodze. Though there has been some examples of Oil on Canvas in the past, watercolor persists as the preferred medium.

The Awinoan Comic Book industry draws heavily from the Japanese Manga Industry for inspiration. Most comics are read from right to left even though the Awinoan script is read from left to right. The publishing industry uses a top-to-bottom, left-to-right format for currently published literature. The vast majority of Awinoan literature is fiction. Most of what is published as non-fiction tends to be scientific papers or philosophic discussions.

Cuisine

Agricultural Department's guide to healthy eating.

Awinoan cuisine derives from several sources. Japanese, German, Italian, Russian, Thai, Mexican, and American traditions all have left an imprint on the traditional dishes eaten in the Kingdom of Awinodze. Generally, two or three meals are eaten per day. Breakfast is not typically eaten though this can vary by region and season. Lunch is usually light. Dinner is almost always eaten shortly before bed. The Agricultural Department of Awinodze has defined a food Ven diagram for the people of Awinodze.

One of the dishes recently recognized by the Awinoan Department of Cultural Preservation is called Arati. It consists of beef mixed with cheese, pecans and various spices stuffed into a sweat bread roll and baked. There are several varieties but, the most popular is Harag et Fep Arati or Beef and Pepper Roll. It contains ground beef, jalapenos, cheddar cheese, and garlic. The Arati are often dipped in sour cream.
