The Duchy of Tangle-Wood, more commonly known as Tangle-Wood, is a micronation in North America, founded on the 27th of December, 2023 by Duke Alphonse I, Minister of Justice Moxie Davies and, Minister of the Treasury Caitlyn.

The Duchy of Tangle-Wood is a Unitary Constitutional Elective Monarchy with a Unicameral Parliament.

The Duchy of Tangle-Wood is a minor nation with an inward focus.

Politics and government

The Duchy of Tangle-Wood is an Elective Monarchy. Upon the death or abdication of the Monarch, any Noble aged 28 or older may be elected to become the new Duke or Duchess. Should there not be anyone eligible or the Elected noble declines the offer to become the Monarch, a second election occurs where any Noble aged 21 or over may be elected.

The Duke appoints people to and is advised by the Diet, a unicameral parliament. The Diet is responsible for the drafting of bills and then voting or amending them until they are passed as Dietary Acts. The Duke maintains the right to veto any bill presented to him.

Early government

Prior to the creation of the Constitution, the Duchy was theoretically an Absolute Hereditary Monarchy.

Law and order

The Minister of Justice is responsible for the Judiciary, as well as the enforcement of the Law.

Military

Alphonse II, through his position as Duke, is also the Supreme Commander of the Tanglian Military. Additionally, as part of the constitution, citizens maintain the right to bare arms and are expected to form militias during times of crisis.

Ministries

Each Minister is appointed by the Duke from the Members of the Diet, who are appointed by the Duke also. There is no theoretical limit to the number of appointees to the Diet or to Ministries (which are created by the Duke).

Ministry of Defense

The Ministry of Defense is responsible for Defense of the realm and maintenance of the Military. Currently, the position of Minister of Defense is unoccupied due to its low importance due to the Duchy's inward focus.

Ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Justice is responsible for the drafting of laws and the maintenance of the courts. Additionally, the Minister of Justice provides the final judgement on the interpretation of the Constitution and on Laws passed by the Diet. Currently, the position of Minister of Justice is filled by Moxie Davies.

Ministry of the Treasury

The Ministry of the Treasury is responsible for the improvement of the Duchy's economy, as well as the management of State Finances. Currently, the position of Minister of Justice is filled by Caitlyn.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for the maintenance of the diplomatic connections and briefing the Duke on the intermicronational occurrences that may be of interest to him. As with the Ministry of Defence, it is also currently vacant.

Foreign relations

The Duchy of Tangle-Wood currently maintains no foreign relations.
