The Principality of Fairwave is a sovereign, independent nation 15 miles off the coast of the British Virgin Islands (in international waters). It was incorporated remotely from Australia, with the actual country situated in the Caribbean. Inspired by the Principality of Sealand, the Principality of Fairwave is a collection of two offshore platforms connected by a bridge. It was established for liberty from other oppressive countries and to establish proper laws for all persons living in Fairwave.
The Fairwave offshore platform, the HM Platform Olivia, has not yet been constructed, but building of the platform is planned for December 4th, 2033 with construction planned to be completed on February 28th, 2034.

History

Incorporation of Fairwave

President Olivia was 15 when she discovered the micronation of Sealand, a small platform 6.5 miles off the shore of the United Kingdom. This sparked her interest in micronations around the world, and wanted to follow foot. At the age of 17, she decided to incorporate her own micronation: Fairwave. She designed the Overseer of the Caribbean (the flag of Fairwave) and incorporated the micronation. Using her design skills and artitechtural talents, she began to design the HM Platform Olivia, a reimagined version of the Sealand platform, or a redesigned version of the British Maunsell Forts.

Officially, on 28 February 2024, at 6:16 AM, AEDT, the Principality of Fairwave was officially established as a micronation. The micronation was remotely established from Sydney. The Sheilde Libertatis was later designed to show the Royal Monarchy of Fairwave, and the first official use of this coat of arms was on the Incorporation Document. Olivia declared herself the first citizen and, at the time, the only government official.

The Beginning of Expansion

5 days later on 4 March 2024, the second official citizen joined the principality. Finnley L, a friend of Olivia, became the second member of the Fairwave Administrative Embassy and was indicted as the Royal Governor of the HM Platform Olivia. He later joined the Fairwave Suction Cup Competitive Climbing Team (SCCCT) and would actively support people to join the SCCCT (aswell as Fairwave itself).

Olivia, on 14 March 2024, visited Hawaii for a vacation with her family. She visited a cultural center where she encountered the Aotearoa section, where a group of Zealanders taught her Ti Rakau Moari [a], or the New Zealand Stick Game. She loved it so much, she made it an official sport of Fairwave and formed the Fairwave Ti Rakau Maori National Team (TRMNT). She engaged with the Zealanders, challenging them, before Fairwave ultimately lost the game 3-2.

Returning back home two days later, she told her friends about TRMNT and the stick game, as well as the Principality of Fairwave. Her friends inquired about the micronation, and Olivia persuaded them to become citizens. That day, two more citizens joined Fairwave, bringing the grand total to 4 people. The population has stayed at the same level since then.

On 20 March 2024, President Olivia officially declared the 28th of February to be a national holiday- known as Incorporation Day. Later that day, a second member joined the TRMNT, a citizen that had joined on 16 March 2024. The first contact with another micronation was made; the Kingdom of Salanda sent out a diplomacy request. President Olivia gave a greenlight for alliance, but response from the Governor was not yet made.
A day later, citizen Cameron T. became the first member of the Aristocratic Senate. Cameron T. encouraged Dallin H, a new citizen who joined that day, to apply for Aristocratic powers. Dallin would succeed, and became the second member of the Aristocratic Senate. Cameron would, later that day, become the public representative of the Aristocratic Senate.

Drafting the Constitution

The 21st of March would be the first day the actual drafting of the Royal Constitution of Fairwave and Its People, which began later in the evening of that day. The Royal Monarchy and the Aristocracy Senate would gather and discuss creation of the constitution and what laws would and wouldn't be allowed.
Later that day, Governor Finnley officially gave a green light on establishing diplomacy with the Kingdom of Salanda. They officially established an alliance at 8:05 AST.

Symbolism

The country has three national symbols, those being the national flag, the coat of arms, and the national anthem.

Overseer of the Caribbean

The Overseer of the Caribbean, national flag of Fairwave

The flag, known as the Overseer of the Caribbean, is referenced to the micronation of Sealand, with the same pattern, with the only differences being the colour and the additional star. The “Star of Unity” has 5 points which each represent one key thing about Fairwave; stability, liberty, freedom, loyalty, and trust. The golden field represents the triumph of conquering the ocean, and also the Royal colour of the Monarchy. The copper green streak represents liberty, freedom from the land, and also the natural environment of the Caribbean. The navy blue represents the ocean and the stability they were given from the pillars.

Sheilde Libertatis

The Sheilde Libertatis, national coat of arms and royal insignia of Fairwave

The official coat of arms, Sheilde Libertatis, depicts the Overseer of the Caribbean on a shield. This is the royal symbol for the Monarchy of Fairwave, and is used on official government papers and documents.

National Anthem

The anthem of the Principality of Fairwave is Bring Liberty To The Sea.[b]

Government & Politics

Fairwave follows the idea of constitutional monarchy, which is a form of monarchy in which the monarch exercises their authority in accordance with a constitution and is not alone in making decisions.[1] Fairwave has been executing this idea since its incorporation, having one President through its history so far. The Royal Monarchy (RM), or administrative embassy, rules the country and its people, executing laws and deciding regulations on what happens to the platform.

Classifications of People

In the Fairwave society, the people are classified into 3 groups; the Royal Monarchy, the Aristocracy, and the Citizens. The Royal Monarchy rules the country and its people, executing laws and deciding regulations on what happens to the platform. Currently, there are two members of the Royal Monarchy; those being President Olivia and Governor Finnley. The Aristocracy is a ruling class of the platform that is not necessarily considered royal, but still assist in running the country. There are currently 2 people in the Aristocracy. The final class is the Citizens, a group of non-royal and non-aristocratic people who claim citizenship to Fairview. Citizens have no special power on the platform.

Royal Monarchy

Since its incorporation, Fairwave has had one President and one Royal Governor which are both part of the Royal Monarchy. The Royal Monarchy has control over all laws, but is forced to take input from the Aristocracy and Citizens. Politics within the country is fairly simple, with nobody opposing the Royal Monarchy or the systems that they use. Because everyone is treated fairly, very little opposition has been seen towards the Royal Monarchy. Politics involving international relations with other micronations has been quiet, with only one country reaching out to establish diplomacy. This one nation was the Kingdom of Salanda, which Fairwave happily allied with on March 21 2024.

Micronational Relations

Fairwave keeps its relations between other countries very formal, and is weary when it comes to making ties. The Principality of Fairwave has established diplomacy with only one micronation in the world, that being the Kingdom of Salanda, which was established on 21 March 2024. Other than that, no other micronation has reached out to establish any kind of diplomacy.

Government Agencies

There are multiple government agencies that govern Fairwave to keep it as orderly as possible.

Economy

Imports

Fairwave mainly imports carbohydrates, sugar, dairy, meats, and platform technologies. Other food, like fruits and vegetables, is grown on the platform for immediate harvesting.[c]

Exports

The economy of Fairwave thrives from selling fish and other seafood commodities to coastal communities nearby, such as Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands.

Public Finances

The Royal Monarchy carefully calculates its finances, and has declared no national debt. Along with this, there has been no economic aid from other nations so far in Fairwave’s history.

Currency

The Principality of Fairwave uses USD (United States Dollar) as their main currency, but has also established their own currency called (FWC) Fairwave crude.

Fairwave Crude

FWC, or Fairwave crude (thumb), is the currency created by the government. Instead of using paper banknotes, the Royal Monarchy decided to use metal coins[d].Paper banknotes kept flying away in the windy conditions of the Caribbean, which caused an issue. These coins would come in increments of 1, 2, 5, and 10, 20, 50, and 100. Their monetary value is worth twice as less of USD because of more circulation around Fairwave, and aren’t spent as much as they are seen as a collectors item.

Crude Exchange Rates

Because of their circulation, FWC is twice as less valuable as USD. Exchange rates have been worked out and decided by the Bank of Fairwave.

Culture and Society

The people of Fairwave all have vastly different holidays and traditions. Although, collectively as citizens, they follow traditions that the platform has which the people created.

Religion

The nation itself has no official religion, as religion is free to practice, but 100% of the population does not identify with a particular religion. The HM Platform Olivia itself hosts a church with praying mats, a chapel, and multiple bibles of different religions for preaching.

National Holidays

Fairwave hosts two official holidays, Incorporation Day and Accession Day, which each citizen celebrates.

Incorporation Day

Incorporation Day, the day the micronation was established, is celebrated on February 28th. Citizens celebrate with a barbecue consisting of pork, a delicacy, and hotdogs. Other food may consist of chicken, fruits and vegetables, and fish. The Royal Monarchy celebrates with pork, fruits, and steamed vegetables, finishing with fine hawaiian chocolate as a dessert.

Accession Day

If the current President dies or retires, Accession Day is used to do a coronation ceremony for the next President. Accession Day takes place on July 1st.

Non-National Holidays

Unofficially celebrated holidays are Christmas, where citizens give gifts to their loved ones and the Royal Monarchy. Another major one is Halloween, where citizens exchange candy across the platform.

Language

The official language for Fairwave is English, and it is the only language currently spoken in the nation. The Fairwave Education Program is planning to start a language unit, allowing citizens to learn German and Spanish. This program is planned to start in 2035.

Respectful Traditions

The citizens deeply respect the Royal Monarchy, so they salute each time they encounter them. The Wavian salute is performed by sticking out your middle and index finger, pinky and ring retracted into your palm, with your thumb at a 45 degree angle across the palm to the bottom of the middle finger. The right arm will raise horizontally to the right eyebrow, and after 2 seconds, will turn the arm into a 45 degree "L", disconnecting from the eyebrow.

Sports

The Principality of Fairwave has two main sports which the citizens engage in once a year. Those being the Suction Cup Competitive Climbing Team and the Ti Rakau Maori National Team, which compete in sporting events with other micronations around the world. Sports in Fairwave are ran by the FSA, or Fairwave Sports Administration.

Founded on March 20th of 2024, they have yet to compete in any events, but are working hard and training to prepare for their first competition. The SCCCT consists of the President and Governor.

Ti Rakau Maori National Team

The Ti Rakau Maori National Team is a 2-person team led by the President with one citizen engaging in competitions about the game Ti Rakau Maori, or the New Zealand Stick Game. There has been one game, that between the Principality of Fairwave and a group of Unnamed New Zealanders, with the New Zealand team winning 3-2.
