The Duke's College of Agronomy (Portuguese: Colégio de Agronomia do Duque) is a public college and the only educational institution in Marienbourg. Established in 2023, it is the only agricultural college in South American micronations. The college provides more than 20 land-based undergraduate courses in sparse face-to-face classes, but primarily through Distance education.

History

The Duke's College of Agronomy was founded through Ducal Charter in 1st March 2023 at the request of Prince Anthony of Marienbourg, who is therefore credited as the founder. In reality, however, Arthur I, Duke of Marienbourg, informally asked his great-uncle, Prince Anthony, to petition the Council of State for the creation of the institution by executive decree of the Sovereign. In founding it, the Duke reportedly aimed to promote the culture of Marienbourg, but mainly to strengthen the image of the micro country and promote the engagement of his family members in the political, social and cultural activities of the nation.

As soon as it was established, the Ministry of Social Affairs established a committee that appointed Prince Anthony as Chancellor of Duke's College and his brother, Prince Edison, as Deputy Chancellor. The committee, in turn, offered Duke Arthur I the honorary position of Patronus. The academic team was organized from the voluntary collaboration of workers and residents of Fazenda Irmãos Carvalho, or, Carvalho Brothers Farm, who agreed to teach courses on agriculture following an overview discussed internally between the administrative heads of the institution and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Admission

Only citizens of Marienbourg, resident or otherwise, may apply for admission to the Duke's College of Agronomy. The application is administered through a short exam sent by email and held annually in which the applicant must demonstrate their knowledge and interest in agriculture and proficiency in Portuguese or English. Notwithstanding the examination, the governing body of the College retains supreme authority over the approval of applicant candidates, which, sanctioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs, does not allow judicial appeal. The Duke's College does not require its students to pay any tuition, as its source of funding comes from the government budget.

Notes

  1. Officially, six people agreed to occasionally give lectures and various subjects on agriculture, including the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor.
